Latter Day Saint Indoctrination from infancy on up through "bearing personal testimonies" is discussed in this video. ..."I know the church is true"... "I know Joseph Smith was a true prophet"... "I know the Book of Mormon is true." General Authorities discuss this topic. I show screenshots from the church's official website discussing the topic of testimonies. I also show members from children through adults bearing their testimonies. How can you base your entire belief system on feelings? The article listed in the sources below (at mormonthink.com) is an excellent resource because all of the writers are or were Latter Day Saints. They list example after example and source after source on this topic of LDS testimonies. Thanks for watching!

"There will always be unanswered questions"...yeah, like, "Why did Joseph Smith make up all these easily discernable lies that are so eagerly absorbed by the non-believers in the Bible and the words of Jesus." Ask Muslims about THEIR "feelings" and the Jehovah's Witnesses about THEIR "feelings". That is NOT the way God said to test for truth, because WE are not prophets and our hearts are evil above all things. YOU can GIVE yourself "feelings", just like when you watch a scary movie and get chills and weird "feelings" or you see something like a lamb get up for the first time after it was born..."feelings" are NOT what God told us to go by...it's His WORD. His WORDS are NOT in the blatherings of Joseph Smith...and the Bible DOES NOT go, "hand in hand" with all the made up stuff of the LDS. It's 180 degrees out of sync and telling yourself that it jibes is just a lie you tell yourself and others to, "keep the church 'true'".

Certainly one of the most frustrating "defaults" that I've heard, and surprisingly frequently until I realized what was going on. Have you ever asked a child a question, knowing that they want to give you the answer they know they should? And then you see their eyes glaze over and then, they recite. This puppeteering breaks my heart. And you know what Jesus, who you say you worship, said about this sort of manipulation? "If anyone causes one of these little ones-those who believe in me-to stumble, it would be better for them to have a large millstone hung around their neck and to be drowned in the depths of the sea." - Yeshua

@@samsmom400 The Bible contradicts itself. As an example, what must a Christian do for salvation? That is the most basic and important thing to know, right? I have searched the Bible to know and was confused. Most Christians quote Rom 10:9-10. But there are verses that say baptism and obedience are needed. Another says work it out with fear and trembling, and endure to the end is another. One verse says salvation is of the Jews! It's totally confusing. But with more scripture I can see and understand how they all fit together.

Good grief... Here are the tactics Jessie and co use: Create the mood you desire by choosing words that evoke negative emotions and doubt. Claim to be “deconstructing” false beliefs and disseminating “truth” out of concern for deluded or ignorant members. Collect and showcase negative personal experiences, hurt feelings and statements that leaving the Church was positive. Use negative experiences with members to judge doctrine, all members, leaders past and present, or the Church as an institution. Create and carefully edit encounters with members who don’t know the gospel well, don’t have a sure testimony, or who are put on defense by a sudden attack they didn’t expect. Use of AI to alter audio and video is allowed. List as many negative points as possible to drown the reader and create the impression of overwhelming evidence against the Church. Use any source that matches what you want to portray, and never question bias or validity. Cherry pick Bible verses or statements then interpret them out of context. Make assumptions or generalizations about everything- the more negative the better. Judge people and situations in the past with the standards and culture of today. Set up straw man arguments Ignore biblical precedent and context. Intentionally misunderstand meanings of statements. Hold up the people you wish to destroy to standards of perfection you wouldn’t tolerate for yourself. Rarely if ever use the correct name of the Church or respectful titles. Assign the worst motives to Joseph Smith, Brigham Young and other leaders. Paraphrase, or add/omit words from quotes. I have answered her. You might want to check it out.

Very interesting video.Thanks for the time you spent on it. I guess I always thought that Mormon missionaries used their testimonies as a final argument that is hard to refute (for who can argue against emotions?), but this video seems to show it in terms of self affirmation. I agree that Christian testimony includes the "why" or "how" of what we believe, but the stating of "what" we believe is an important act of worship. As an older evangelical, I have come to believe over the years that we evangelicals don't pay enough attention to creeds, i.e. statements of what we believe. It's an excellent means of worship, whether it's reciting a creed or singing something similar like "Because We Believe" (see ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-lVz6FtZHPPo.html). What makes a testimony or creed valid is the Biblical truth that underlies it. Finally, the testimony of the Mormon faith is that we are saved by grace "after all we can do" (2 Nephi 25:23). But I believe the greater testimony: "If we receive the testimony of men, the testimony of God is greater; for the testimony of God is this, that He has testified concerning His Son. The one who believes in the Son of God has the testimony in himself; the one who does not believe God has made Him a liar, because he has not believed in the testimony that God has given concerning His Son. And the testimony is this, that God has given us eternal life, and this life is in His Son. He who has the Son has the life; he who does not have the Son of God does not have the life" (1 John 5:9-11) and "whoever believes in Him shall not perish, but have eternal life" (John 3:16b).

I just recently left Mormonism 3 weeks ago. I remember when I was a teen about 10 years ago, members were bearing their testimonies and sharing too many personal stories. We were told to keep it short and keep it to the basics. Testify of Joseph Smith, the BOM, the current prophet, at the time was Thomas S Monson, this is the true church, and God and Jesus. They said it was so everyone who wanted to bear their testimony could in the allotted time we had. It made sense at the time, and now it gives me chills. Actually Jessie feelings are real. l Corinthians 12:8-10 mentions a list of gifts that come from the spirit. The spirit of discernment was one of them. It is true that one could be deceived by his own feelings if he is not careful but, at the same time God's power is not so weak that it can't testify to our hearts in a way that goes far beyond just what we put in our heads and typical warm fuzzy feelings. With God nothing is impossible. Mark 10: 27
@itsmejessie
@itsmejessie 5 лет назад
Feeling and emotion are absolutely real. And they're wonderful! But they cannot be trusted. We are deceived constantly by our emotions and feelings... we feel anger and loneliness and frustration and selfishness and a lack of love... feelings can destroy relationships if we follow them. That's why we need to keep them in check. Feelings and emotions also make us feel joy, happiness, beauty, love and so much more. But if I followed the LDS mindset of trusting feelings in my marriage, for example, and believed that the good feelings meant I was supposed to stay with my husband and the negative feelings meant I should get a divorce.... yikes. No marriage would last because our hearts are deceitful above all things and desperately wicked. We need to use the sound minds God gave us to discern truth and reality and to keep our emotions in check. 💕

Also, many LDS leaders claim to have the gift of discernment but there are hundreds of examples of that failing miserably. Giving out temple recommends.. allowing people to share in testimony meetings.. etc.

@@itsmejessie First of all thank you for taking the time to respond to my comment. I have to say Jessie I can't help but think that you and so many other critics take things a little too literal. When our leaders tell us to rely on the spirit that doesn't mean that we always need to just constantly go against logic and rely on feelings alone. Even in the doctrine and covenants it tells us to study things out in our minds first. D+C 9:7-8 In fact church leaders have always told us to read the scriptures daily and seek knowledge and wisdom. Of course God wants us to use our minds and intellect to help us get to the truth. In fact the list of spiritual gifts that are found in the scripture I mentioned earlier in my original comment it mentions also wisdom, knowledge, discernment, and exceeding great faith. And also says that we should covet after these gifts. The BoM agrees as well. But, at the same time even logic and reasoning can be deceiving. Even the bible agrees Proverbs 3:5- 6 tells us to lean not unto our own understanding Isaiah 55: 8-9 says Gods thoughts are better than are thoughts. l Corinthians 3:19 says that the wisdom of the world is foolishness with God. But, does this mean that we should be so literal with these scriptures that we run away from logic too? No of course not it just means we need to be careful. Also atheist have used the same logic as you and have tested the bible's authenticity and declared it to be false because science doesn't agree with some of the things in the bible like the age of the earth for example. But, should this be a reason for one to run away from the bible? Many science majors have enrolled in college as Christians and have graduated as atheist. Why? Because main stream science doesn't agree with the bible. That is why 90% of our scientist are atheist in a society that is mostly Christian.

I am an ex Mormon for over 30 years now. Good points Jesse. Another thing Mormons need to remember; mans testimony, or multiple testimonies, do not determine gods word. God determines his word. Just saying in unison that something is true does not make something true. Mans testimony is not greater than Gods. God is a god of evidence and facts. Faith is the "evidence" of things hoped for. The LDS additions would not hold up in a court of law.
@truthrescue154

Another thing; the you tube videos titled "this is the gospel" is just more testimony's that "this is true." They always contend it with no basis of fact. The facts reveal the opposite. Its false. Their testimony is void of the plan of salvation. Often they become offended because they confuse the spirit, which can't always be seen, with the rules of a prophet or the written word of god, which can be seen. Feelings, although valid, do not determine facts, a prophet, or gods word. And because they believe theirs is the only truth, all other testimonies outside their church are not valid??? Hmmm

imagine living in utah in the year 1850. it's fast and testimony/ blood atonement sunday. think how fervently you would bear your testimony, knowing that some people might very well be blood atoned that sunday after testimony meeting. now you can understand how the mormon testimony evolved and the use of certain key phrases. "i know yudda yudda yudda" and joseph smith was a prophet from the bottom of my heart, with every fiber of my being, book of mormon, last days, burning in the bosom, by the way. john d lee was a blood atoner. he slit the throats of mormons so they could atone for their own sins with their own blood. he was also executed at mountain meadows for leading the massacre there. i probably won't get a heart from jessie for this comment, but i'm still printing it. mormonism is like a nightmare you can't wake up from. you wish it would end some how.

@@PhdAAA there is so much documented information about the danites and people they killed. it would take hours just to copy the cites from utah lighouse. There can be no doubt that many people in early Utah lost their lives because of the doctrine of blood atonement. John D. Lee, who had been a member of Joseph Smith's secret Council of Fifty, related the following: The most deadly sin among the people was adultery, and many men were killed in Utah for that crime. Rosmos Anderson was a Danish man who had come to Utah ... He had married a widow lady ... and she had a daughter that was fully grown at the time of the reformation. The girl was very anxious to be sealed to her step-father,... At one of the meetings during the reformation Anderson and his step-daughter confessed that they had committed adultery, believing when they did so that Brigham Young would allow them to marry when he learned the facts. Their confession being full, they were rebaptized and received into full membership. They were then placed under covenant that if they again committed adultery, Anderson should suffer death. Soon after this a charge was laid against Anderson before the Council, accusing him of adultery with his step-daughter. This Council was composed of Klingensmith and his two counselors; it was the Bishop's Council. Without giving Anderson any chance to defend himself or make a statement, the Council voted that Anderson must die for violating his covenants. Klingensmith went to Anderson and notified him that the orders were that he must die by having his throat cut, so that the running of his blood would atone for his sins. Anderson, being a firm believer in the doctrines and teachings of the Mormon Church, made no objections, but asked for half a day to prepare for death. His request was granted. His wife was ordered to prepare a suit of clean clothing, in which to have her husband buried, and was informed that he was to be killed for his sins, she being directed to tell those who should enquire after her husband that he had gone to California. Klingensmith, James Haslem, Daniel McFarland and John M. Higbee dug a grave in the field near Cedar City, and that night, about 12 o'clock, went to Anderson's house and ordered him to make ready to obey the Council. Anderson got up, dressed himself, bid his family good-bye, and without a word of remonstrance accompanied those that he believed were carrying out the will of the "Almighty God." They went to the place where the grave was prepared; Anderson knelt upon the side of the grave and prayed. Klingensmith and his company then cut Anderson's throat from ear to ear and held him so that his blood ran into the grave. As soon as he was dead they dressed him in his clean clothes, threw him into the grave and buried him. They then carried his bloody clothing back to his family, and gave them to his wife to wash, when she was again instructed to say that her husband was in California .... The killing of Anderson was then considered a religious duty and a just act.... I knew of many men being killed in Nauvoo by the Danites. It was then the rule that all the enemies of Joseph Smith should be killed, and I know of many a man who was quietly put out of the way by the orders of Joseph and his Apostles while the Church was there. (Confessions of John D. Lee, photomechanical reprint of the original 1877 edition, pages 282-284) In The Mormon Kingdom, Volumes 1 and 2, we have documented the fact that many people were put to death in the early history of the Mormon Church. A good condensation of this material appears in Mormonism-Shadow or Reality? pages 398-404A, 428-450, 493-515.

Truth is truth, it can't change just because we think its true. Having a good feeling caused by confirmation bias is not a good way to judge truth, but it works great for brainwashing someone to believe something is true. Some things we just believe are true even though we can't prove it and that's ok that's called faith, but if you say "I know it's true" isn't that a lie?

I was born in the LDS Church and remained until I was 35. The more I had degrees and education, the more the Church local and regional authorities were getting suspicious about me. They certainly don't want to have people with higher education, most of the LDS church leaders come from the business world, they will do their best to set their children on the same path. There is a good reason for that: no critical thinking, just making money to give a higher tithing to the Church, that will only be beneficial to a handful of powerful US families, who control the Church since Brigham Young.

This one is mainly for David Burns....but others reading will also be revealed the TRUTH: "Biblical Prophets V’s the 'Self-Proclaimed' prophet Joe Smith" The true word of God (The Bible) declares that the prophets and the apostles of the Bible, have passed God’s own tests by which we might recognize false prophets and teachers. The biblical prophets spoke the truth in their prophecies, warning Israel and the Jews of God’s judgment if they did not repent. They spoke about the one true God and taught one way of salvation. They never used their prophetic office in self-serving ways. On the other hand, Joseph Smith was a false prophet, simply because he failed all of the biblical tests of a prophet: he gave false prophecies, taught false gods, preached a false gospel, lied in God’s name, and broke God’s commandments by practicing adultery with multiple women whom he secretly claimed God commanded him to take illegally as his “wives.” Some as young as 14. He issued prophetic revelations that made predictions in the name of God that were NOT and cannot be fulfilled, such as his prediction (in Doctrine & Covenants 84:1-5) that a temple would be built within one generation in Jackson County, Missouri (Deut. 18:22). He led his people to believe in Gods (such as a “heavenly mother”, and a “divine father” before God the Father) contrary to the revelation of the true God as revealed in the Bible (Deut. 13:1-5; 18:20). He taught a gospel contrary to the gospel of Jesus Christ taught by Paul and the other apostles (Gal. 1:6-9). He lied as a prophet speaking in the name of God, for example with regard to his practice of polygamy (Jer. 14:14; Zech. 13:3). He broke God’s commandment that forbids adultery by taking married women as his own wives (Lev. 18:20; Rom. 7:3), and even taking a woman and her daughter as wives (Lev. 18:17). These actions show Joseph to be a false prophet not merely because they were sinful but because he claimed that God commanded him to do these things (Matt. 7:15-20). For all of these reasons, the pseudo-religion that Joseph Smith founded cannot be considered true Christianity. Four major tests of a prophet are presented from the Bible, with quotations from LDS sources affirming the validity of these tests, in the article: “Mormon Statements Affirming Biblical Tests for Prophets.” Found here: mit.irr.org/mormon-statements-affirming-biblical-tests-prophets The LDS (The Mormon's) are a very successful con build by a deluded man & it's a very financially wealthy tax-free pseudo-church, which was built-up lie upon lie upon lie...even some of the current day Elders & Prophets even know this to be true, but would rather spend their final days - continuing on in this pseudo-church - "Knowing full well it was all built upon the lies and the deception of it's Founder" ... the deluded treasure hunter - sir Joe Smith.

Jesus Divides Families Do not suppose that I have come to bring peace to the earth.divide families I did not come to bring peace, but a sword. For I have come to turn ‘a man against his father, a daughter against her mother, a daughter-in-law against her mother-in-law - a man’s enemies will be the members of his own household.’ (Mat 10:34-36) Why is that clear truth about the Lord Jesus Christ dividing families avoided? Because people generally want to preach and hear about a loving, all-accepting gracious Savior, who smiled and preached easy to receive teachings with little or no demands placed on them. They want to believe in a Savior like that, a mythical god, not one which divides families! Why Jesus Came To Divide Families Why does Jesus divide families? The God of truth (Isa. 65:16) is the God of the Bible. Since truth divides, then Jesus would naturally divide his followers away from those who reject and hate God’s truth, even one’s natural family members. Remember, Jesus divides families: Do you think I came to bring peace on earth? No, I tell you, but division. From now on there will be five in one family divided against each other, three against two and two against three. They will be divided, father against son and son against father, mother against daughter and daughter against mother, mother-in-law against daughter-in-law and daughter-in-law against mother-in-law.” (Luke 12:51-53) Those same truth rejecters become enemies to the truth lovers as they resist and persecute the follower of Jesus. That test places the Christian with a divided family in a position where he must count the cost to follow Jesus unashamedly! Is he at that point where he must decide if he is going to please God and remain faithful to him or his truth-rejecting natural family? If he returns as a dog to his vomit to win the favor of his spiritually dead family he will lose his salvation. Jesus Came To Divide - NOT Bring Peace On Earth To be worthy of Jesus and eternal life, one must side with God’s truth even though it divides his own family. That truth is vital for especially new converts to Christianity when they are tested by family division. Remember: Jesus came to divide as a test and is basic to true conversion! www.eternallifeblog.com/jesus-divide-families/ Have you read, Unveiling Grace, by Lynn Wilder? People prayed for this family for 29 years. They all came out of Mormonism.

@mckennapavich1322 5 лет назад
@@fayelewis5476 I agree, the truth has certainly divided families, mine being one of them. It's a giant elephant in the room at times or the topic of a heated debate at other times for sure. Jesus knew this would happen which is why He said what He did in Luke 12:51-53 and why He also said in John 16:33 "These things I have spoken unto you, that in me ye might have peace. In the world ye shall have tribulation: but be of good cheer; I have overcome the world." (John 16:33 KJV) He knew His truth would cause division and controversy which is also exactly why He gave us the His Spirit as a comforter and peacemaker. So although He came to divide/ separate his followers from his non-followers, and testing who will follow Him without shame as you mentioned, He also said He will not leave us without a comforter (Holy Spirit) the Spirit of peace. In this specific parable though He never followed up about it being a means of testing ones faith either and we need to be careful when we add to the message or write off the enemies attacks as "faith testers". (Someone might confuse your message also in the sense that Satan's aim is to isolate families and tear them apart while it is Jesus who brings healing and unity) Now I'm not saying that because people only want to hear about a loving Jesus, I'm saying all this because I think it's important to also note that just because Jesus knew He would bring division among families in this very way doesn't mean that it is what He aims for. I deffinately agree that prayer is our most powerful tool and God faithfully answers my prayers daily. Back to my original response to theladygunsmith's comment you'll notice that was the first thing I said was prayers over all our families. When Jesus does come again, EVERY eye will see, including the eyes of the mislead.

True biblical transformation starts with the mind, not feelings... If you, Jessie, want to get into a discussion, I 100% guarantee I will back you into a corner where your ONLY defense for believing in Christ is because of faith based upon just that.....faith. You have ZERO evidence to back up that Christ is the son of God or that he even existed. None. What you have is faith that he was the son of God and that he indeed existed. There is nothing wrong with that. No religion on Earth can claim that their views or dogma is based on evidence. To bash another faith because you somehow think your faith is more pure is utter absurdity.

So how can one really know that the bible is true without proof?
@fayelewis5476
@fayelewis5476 5 лет назад
Answer: Logic requires that there is only one objective “truth” for any specific claim. Contradictory claims cannot be equally true. For example, the statements “the hamster is in its cage” and “the hamster cage is empty” cannot both be true simultaneously. This evaluation of truth applies to spiritual matters just as well as logical or physical matters. It’s reasonable to claim that the Bible is true in a way that excludes all other statements. Examining the Bible in the same way we would any other text, we can confidently say that it is, in fact, true. The Bible not only encourages readers to examine their own beliefs (1 John 4:1), but it also commends those who check spiritual claims for truth (Acts 17:11). The Bible makes claims on the basis of history and eyewitnesses (Luke 1:1-4; 2 Peter 1:16), connects belief to visible evidence (John 20:30-31), and ties biblical ideas to the observable world (Psalm 19:1; Romans 1). Jesus overtly claimed to represent an exclusive truth (John 18:37; 14:6). So the Bible is clearly meant to be interpreted as true, and exclusively true (John 17:17). Where we can check biblical claims against verifiable truth, the Bible proves itself accurate. History, archaeology, science, and philosophy have shown Scripture to be factual and consistent. This correspondence between various forms of evidence is a major advantage the Bible has over the scriptures of any other faith system. In many cases, it has been the deciding factor in converting skeptics and nonbelievers to faith in Christ. Whether or not the Bible is true is a separate question from whether or not a particular passage is “literal.” It’s reasonable to say that a phrase or statement is true, even if the truth is not presented in literal terms. For example, if a person says during a heavy rain, “It’s raining cats and dogs,” the statement is true-it’s just not literal. Idiomatic phrases are meant to be interpreted. The same principle applies to John’s words about Jesus: “Look, the Lamb of God!” (John 1:36). Of course, a person might ask for clarification, and be told, based on Old Testament passages, that Jesus isn’t literally a wooly farm animal, but that He’s the fulfillment of the Law and the divinely chosen sacrifice to redeem the world. The figurative nature of John’s statement doesn’t make his statement untrue, simply metaphorical. It’s good to remember that the Bible is comprised of sixty-six separate books, and each of them often contains different types of literature and a mixture of literal and figurative language. More so than with any other religious text, we have assurance that the Bible is true. The combination of internal consistency, connection to evidence, and relevance to our experience makes the Bible unique among books. Like many religious works, the Bible claims to be true (2 Timothy 3:16). Unlike any other religious work, the Bible emphatically supports that assertion. www.gotquestions.org/is-the-Bible-true.html
@fayelewis5476
@fayelewis5476 5 лет назад
The Bible makes claims about the creation of the universe, the nature of the God who created the universe and reigns supremely over it, and the fate of mankind. If these claims are true, then the Bible is the most important book in the history of mankind. If the Bible is true, then it holds the answers to life’s biggest questions: “From where did I come?” “Why am I here?” and “What happens to me when I die?” The importance of the Bible’s message demands it receive fair consideration, and the truthfulness of its message is observable, testable, and able to withstand scrutiny. The writers of the Bible claim that the Bible is God’s very Word. The apostle Paul writes that “all Scripture is God-breathed” (2 Timothy 3:16). That is to say, all the words recorded in the original writing of Scripture originated from the mouth of God before ever reaching the minds and pens of the biblical writers. The apostle Peter also writes that “prophecy never had its origin in the human will, but prophets, though human, spoke from God as they were carried along by the Holy Spirit” (2 Peter 1:21). The phrase “carried along” is indicative of a sail being propelled by the wind. That is, the writing of Scripture was directed by the Holy Spirit. The Bible does not originate with man and is, then, a product of God and carries the authority of God. At this point, it is important not to let circular reasoning become the justification for believing the Bible. We cannot say that one should believe the Bible simply because the Bible says it should be believed. If, however, the truth claims of the Bible are found true whenever it is possible to test their veracity or are proved true during historical and scientific discovery, then the internal claims of the Bible’s own trustworthiness are more compelling. The internal evidence works in tandem with the external. The internal evidence of Scripture’s veracity provides many compelling arguments for why one should believe the Bible. First, the unique message of the Bible sets it apart from other religious texts. The Bible, for instance, teaches that mankind is inherently evil and deserving of eternal death. If man were responsible for the content of the Bible, the view of humanity would not be so dark-we tend to make ourselves look good. The Bible also teaches that humans can do nothing of themselves to remedy their natural state. This, too, goes against human pride. The unity of the biblical message is further reason for why one should believe the Bible. The Bible was written over a period of approximately 1,550 years, with at least 40 human writers, most of whom did not know each other and were from varying backgrounds (king, fisherman, tax collector, shepherd, etc.). The Bible was written in various environments (desert, prison, royal court, etc.). Three different languages were used to write the Bible, and, despite covering controversial subjects, it carries one harmonious message. The circumstances surrounding the writing of the Bible would seem to guarantee its fallibility, and, yet, the message from Genesis to Revelation is uncannily consistent. Another reason why one should believe the Bible is its accuracy. The Bible should not be confused with a science textbook, but that does not mean that the Bible does not speak to issues that are scientific in nature. The water cycle was described in Scripture centuries before it was a scientific discovery. In some cases science and the Bible have seemed to be at odds with each other. Yet, when science has advanced, the scientific theories have proved wrong and the Bible proved right. For example, it used to be standard medical practice to bleed patients as a cure for illness. Many people died because of excessive blood loss. Now medical professionals know that bloodletting as a cure for most diseases is counterproductive. The Bible always taught that “the life of a creature is in the blood” (Leviticus 17:11). The Bible’s truth claims concerning world history have also been substantiated. Skeptics used to criticize the Bible for its mention of the Hittite people (e.g., 2 Kings 7:6). The lack of any archaeological evidence to support the existence of a Hittite culture was often cited as a rebuttal against Scripture. In 1876, however, archaeologists discovered evidence of the Hittite nation, and by the early 20th century the vastness of the Hittite nation and its influence in the ancient world was common knowledge. The scientific and historical accuracy of the Bible is important evidence of the Bible’s trustworthiness, but the Bible also contains fulfilled prophecies. Some of the biblical writers made claims about future events centuries in advance. If any one of the events predicted had occurred, it would be astounding. But the Bible contains many, many prophecies. Some of the predictions were fulfilled in a short amount of time (Abraham and Sarah had a son, Peter denied Jesus three times, Paul was a witness for Jesus in Rome, etc.). Other predictions were fulfilled hundreds of years later. The 300 messianic prophecies fulfilled by Jesus could not have reasonably been fulfilled by one person unless some greater power was involved. Specific prophecies like Jesus’ birthplace, activities, manner of death, and resurrection demonstrate the preternatural accuracy of Scripture. When it is put to the test, the Bible is proved true in every area. Its truth extends to the spiritual, as well. That means that when the Bible says the Hittite nation existed, then we can believe that there were Hittites, and when the Bible teaches that “all have sinned” (Romans 3:23) and the “wages of sin is death” (Romans 6:23), then we need to believe that, too. And, when the Bible tells us that “God demonstrates his own love for us in this: While we were still sinners, Christ died for us” (Romans 5:8) and that “whoever believes in [Jesus] shall not perish but have eternal life” (John 3:16), then we can and should believe that, also. www.gotquestions.org/why-should-I-believe-the-Bible.html

The whole Bible can't be proven but parts of it can, such as political leaders, the existence of Jesus (and many of the things the Bible claims he said and did), his apostles' existence, Jesus' crucifixion, geography, etc. And as to Jesus' divinity, the Old Testament prophecies of his coming. It was written by many different prophets living from 1500 to 400 years before Jesus was born. We have 10s of thousands of manuscripts of the entire Bible. The book of Isaiah is completely intact, and replete with Christ prophecies, and the oldest copy we have dates to 100 years before Christ. It predicts many things that happened to Jesus: born in Bethlehem, exiled to Egypt, Herod committing genocide on the infants under 2 years old in Bethlehem, teaching righteousness, dying for the redemption of the world, and much much more. When the apostle Paul preached he told the people to search the scriptures (our Old Testament) to know if Jesus was the Christ, because it speaks of him at length (not just Isaiah). There are hundreds of prophecies of the life of Jesus and he is the only one in all of history who has fulfilled them all.

@@rayma66 That is an interesting answer. I will admit that this evidence does give greater credibility but doesn't really prove it. All of this evidence can be refuted. You tell these things to an atheist they will just laugh at you. If I were an atheist and I push aside all of my personal feelings and just looked at the physical evidence you just presented it would be no where near enough to convert me because it can be refuted. After all I was not their to see and witness these prophesies fulfilled in person in order to know that it really happen. Just because somebody wrote something down on a piece of paper or some tablet doesn't actually make it true. For all I know Jesus and the apostles could have wrote these stories down and made them up in order to deliberately fulfill these prophesies. For example there is a remarkable prophesy in the Muslim Quran that for tells 9 11. I don't remember the exact words but it was something about how the people of Allah would attack the great eagle and that the wrath of the great eagle would fall upon the people of Allah. What made it so remarkable is that it was found in the ninth chapter and eleventh verse(9 11) This seemed like an impressive prophesy to me at first until someone told me that Osama bin Laden purposely picked that date in order to fulfill the prophesy.

However if your child does not have the cognitive ability to see cause and effect, or the ability to speak of it, for you to be forcing tiny children to get up there, in front of a crowd at least 150/200 people, and telling them to parrot after you....(don’t think I can save that sentence, so let’s just pretend there’s a couple of periods in there) anyhow, to force or bribe your child to do that, you are actually demonstrating that they *don’t* know those things, that they can be left to get their own testimonies, that the Spirit will support and help them. You can’t have it both ways.

I honestly don’t remember bearing my testimony as a child, I just remember giving a talk in Primary in elementary school, and first talked to the ward at 12. I am grateful they encouraged me to get out of my shell, as all children are expected to get up and speak to several hundred people at age 12. Literally children teaching ADULTS. How unique and cool is that? Children bearing testimonies never happened in my last family ward, but to blame the Church for a parent’s desire to bring their kid up there... listen to Al Fox whose daughter begged to go up and didn’t get prompted to say anything... I think the GenX parents are leery of that coercion and want their kids to say what they want... but then again if you get a child BEGGING to go up there and they were always allowed to say WHATEVER they wanted... people would complain...

"I'd like to bear my testimony, that I know this church is true and that the book of Mormon is true..." Still remember my mom coaching me as I tried to memorize "my testimony" and I remember thinking how other kids were "saying it wrong" when we would go to my grandma's ward and they had a similar way of saying but not the same order we did in our ward. It truely is engrained into your mind by repetition. And the positive feelings you get from everyone's high fives and the "good job!" you get from your parents, it creates a natural craving for more that keeps you "bearing your testimony" every testimonial Sunday, especially as a child when it's all you been taught... The fact that parents teach some things to children about what to say in their testimony is not evidence against testimony at all. This criticism shows a complete ignorance of the Bible and its teachings. "Train up a child in the way he should go, and when he is old, he will not depart from it." Children in The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints DO have spiritual feelings they want to express, but don't know the words or just how. Coaching them is no sin. How does that explain adult converts, who bear their testimony under the influence of the Holy Ghost the same way?

My born again experience was very emotional. Only it wasn't a warm and cozy burning in my bosom. By reading the Bible I was crushed under the burden of my own sinful self. Almost like Paul I was in spiritual turmoil until I understood God's grace through Jesus Christ. A Mormon might say, "Ha! Your testimony is by feelings too!" I am a bible believing born again Christian but I can see how my experience might confuse a Mormon when we say emotions are bad. I'm interested to know a fellow Christian's thoughts on this.
@re8618
@re8618 5 лет назад
We can’t follow Christ based solely off of emotions. So we don’t. His instruction is what keeps us following. Contrary to LDS which is other people keeping us following. Even Gods creation proves his existence, then you follow up on what creation shows (esp what has happened to it due to sin) by reading what the Bible says. Compare, contrast. Emotions play a factor, most definitely, but God wants us to test his words and the accuracy of them. I fully believe that. He holds his Word higher than his name. “Purified in fire seven times” is how perfect his words are. Glory! I have felt that crushing weight of sin far too many times! But it ended up bringing me into repentance, in accordance with scripture. A Christian’s life upon acceptance of Christ ends up falling in line with scripture because the Holy Spirit now dwells in the heart and mind of the believer, and the Holy Spirit also dwells in his word. They match up and you begin to notice it. These are my thoughts on the topic. God bless you See Hebrews 10:16-17

Pt Rd, I agree it can be difficult to untangle these things. First, the Holy Spirit is not a feeling. Second, we do not "feel" the presence of the Spirit. John 3 says that when someone is born again, it is the Spirit who is working but we only see the effects of His work. Emotions regarding spiritual things are normal because we're human, but these emotions are the *result* of the work of the Spirit in us that we cannot perceive by our senses.

As an ex-Mormon and fellow Christian I can say that I had an almost identical realization as I started to understand the depth of my sinful ways and tried to grasp the even greater depth of God's love and grace by Jesus blood. As a child I was raised to believe Mormon teachings with a thick family history of Mormon pioneer blood. As a teenager I became angry with God, blaming him for all my woes and broken family, to the point of rebelling against every good thing and delving into Satanism. Years later, at the end of my rope and the rock bottom of a meth addiction, I came to an overwhelming fork in the road. Life or death. Sin or Jesus. In between being saved and further researching for evidence of Jesus being who He said He was, I couldn't help but wonder why I had feelings of guilt for leaving the Mormon church behind. I started to ask myself if I was being silly for thinking that everything I had been taught as a child was wrong and found my new faith challenged by Mormon missionaries telling me to pray for discernment and to read the Book of Mormon as an adult rather than go by childhood memories of what I was taught to be true. I agreed to "give it a fair shot" but still felt uneasy about it all and prayed multiple times asking for God to reveal to me the truth. Each time I prayed I would walk away with the feeling that Mormonism was not of God. Again I couldn't help but deny this intuitive feeling and found myself asking God yet AGAIN to reveal truth to me, this time asking for more than a feeling when I thought about going back to the Mormon church. I said "God, I need proof. I need answers. I feel pulled in two directions with this!" As I opened up the Book of Mormon, I noticed an almost fuzzy light headed warmth as my attention was brought to the word "seer" and an inaudible voice telling me that "I am a prophet but should I tell anyone this epiphany I will loose my abilities to communicate with God." The warm feeling went away shortly after and I felt like I was losing my mind! I felt as though I was going absolutely nuts and didn't recognize the "voice" as Gods. So I prayed to God yet another time asking him to clear up all this messy confusion and sure enough, I started to read up on the tree of life, mentioned in Genesis in the Bible as well as in 1Nephi in the book of Mormon. And there I had it, my first solid answer. Not a feeling or absurd "seer realization", but a concrete answer. The first contradiction of many in the Book of Mormon. Had I gone by "feelings" alone, I would probably be some "prophet or seer" in a cult somewhere lol! All joking aside though, I chose to share my personal experience in response to your comment because I believe there is more than meets the eye behind that "overwhelming warm feeling of conviction". I almost avoid opening up about such personal details but thought it be necessary to prove my point to anyone reading this who is questioning their feelings in the same way I once did. That's not to say to pray until you find the answers you want to find but to pray for answers and evidence beyond feelings. Or another way I like to put it for Mormon's is that booze will give you a warm feeling too but that doesn't deem it as healthy. (Although that analogy will offend some)

God says that there is no salvation in the LDS church. The story about Joseph Smith is easy to believe. He was a very mentally ill man who did not believe in God. Smith shot people up, stole men’s wives, made a wrong-era language translation of a book that has no archaeological evidence to support it whatsoever, taught radical doctrines never heard of before in theology, and the list goes on. It seems that the reason Mormonism grew is because he was the type of man who had an answer for everything, and was better than most at keeping track of his lies. Unfortunately for Mormonism, Smith couldn’t keep track of all of his lies, and eventually they caught up with him and an angry mob exterminated him. It is only Smith’s successors who continued to elevate him to a higher status, because they also saw the benefits of Mormonism, which was being able to justify the feeding of their similar lack of self-control. (endless sex in the after life) Joseph Smith was an atheist because he took notice to the trusting naivety of his contemporary fellow man, and through manipulation, convinced a handful of them that he was more than a storyteller in order to get what he wanted. He was an atheist because he was living according to his worldview, which does whatever is desired, because nothing mattered in his eyes. To him, there were no gods to answer to, no judges to face, and thus, he manipulated the world around him to do what he did best, use women as objects. Mormonism is specifically a man’s religion, much like Islam. It all points toward endless amazing sex for the Muslim. What about women? What do they get? To share one husband among a crowd of women? I’m sure that this sounds like an extremely exciting eternity for women, but realistically, it seems like it would get old after the first few thousand millennia. Mormonism is not far from this. When you die (if you are a good-enough Mormon man), you can populate your own planet with endless celestial sex, in the same way Mormons teach that God has done on this planet. Again, what about women? Nothing but objects. Objects that their husbands supposedly love, but nonetheless, objects. What do they have to look forward to in eternity? Objectification. Baby machines. Joseph Smith was clearly an atheist. He didn’t believe that he would have to answer for these kinds of things.

@@samsmom400 Actually this is mistaken. First, our name is not "mormon" and what we believe and teach is not "mormonism." It's The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. And yes, we are Christians. Not only does our Church bear His name, but we individually covenant (promise) every Sunday in taking the sacrament to "take upon ourselves His name" and "always remember Him." Christ is the very center of our lives and our worship, In fact, we've been commanded to: "look unto me (Jesus Christ) in every thought." (D&C 6:36) When we are baptized it is in His name, and through baptism we covenant to follow Jesus Christ throughout our lives. We believe that Jesus Christ is the Only Begotten Son of God. (John 3:16, John 1: 14, Hebrews 11: 17, 1 John 4: 9, Jacob 4: 5, Alma 12: 33-34, D&C 76: 13) We strive to be disciples of Jesus Christ. We pray daily and always, both privately and publicly, in the name of Jesus Christ. We invite all to "come unto Christ" (Moroni 10: 26). We believe that "God so loved the world, that He gave His only begotten son, that whosever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life." (John 17: 3) We believe that Christ was divinely born of Mary, led a sinless life and was an example to us of how to live, and atoned for our sins and died on the cross, and was resurrected the third day. We "talk of Christ, we rejoice in Christ, we preach of Christ, we prophesy of Christ" (2 Nephi 25: 26). We also believe that in order to be saved we must be "born of Christ" becoming spiritually "his sons and his daughters." (Mosiah 5:7). Regarding the Bible, we study it, we love it, we revere it and we teach it - both Old and New Testaments. The Bible is a compilation of separate books, each an individual revelation to prophets and apostles who lived in different time periods, and these smaller books were much later compiled into the one volume we have today. In all that process over many centuries some transcription and translation errors crept into the text. We believe in the Bible "as it came from the pen of the original writers." "We believe the Bible to be the word of God as far as it is translated correctly." (Articles of Faith, 8). It is a documented, historical fact that careless transcribers, incorrect or imperfect translations across several languages, and other human mistakes and omissions have caused errors that came into some of the text of the Bible over the centuries. This does not diminish the book. It is the word of God and it is remarkable that we have as much of it preserved today as we do. My favorite book is the book of John. As far as the Trinity or Godhead (as we refer to it) is concerned, we "believe in God the Eternal Father, His Son, Jesus Christ, and in the Holy Ghost." (Article of Faith 1) We believe they are perfected and one in purpose. They are totally united. Physically they are separate beings. "The Father has a body of flesh and bones as tangible as man's, the Son also; but the Holy Ghost has not a body of flesh and bones, but is a personage of spirit. Otherwise the Holy Ghost could not dwell in us." (D&C 130: 22-23) This explains how Jesus was able to eat earthly fish and honeycomb after his resurrection, and why the disciples could actually hold his hands and feel the prints of the nails in his resurrected body. Also explains His baptism, where the voice of the Father was heard from Heaven, while at the same time the Holy Ghost descended (separately) in the form of a dove, all while Jesus was standing in the water of the Jordan river being baptized physically by John the Baptist. Also explains His great intercessory prayer in John 17, where it's clear as he sits at the table of the last supper that he's praying to another being, his "Father" - which he repeats many times - and a reasonable person would not conclude He was praying to himself. Consider the many times he said "Father" or "my Father." We believe that all men men and women are created in the image of God - "after His (God's) likeness...in the image of God..male and female created He them." (Genesis 1: 26-27). And that we are literally His children. And that "he invited all to come unto him and partake of his goodness; and he denieth none that come unto him, black and white, bond and free, male and female; and all are alike unto God." (2 Nephi 26: 33) It's true that the priesthood was restricted many years ago, but this is also true of the priesthood at various times during both the Old and New Testament. In the one case it was held by only one of the twelve tribes of Israel (Levites), and in the New Testament, while living, Christ focused on the Jews: "I am not sent but to the lost sheep of the House of Israel." (Matthew 15: 24). We do not believe there was any curse on blacks and in fact they have every privilege of the priesthood, the temple, Heaven and eternal life. We have hundreds of thousands of black members of the Church all over the globe. We believe God gives all of His children the same opportunity. So we not only are Christian but have fellowship with other Christians, including Evangelicals, Baptists, Methodists, and other faiths who are our dear friends, and we serve with them in humanitarian work in local communities and all over the world. It's Father's Day. Hope it's a good day for you and your family.

LDS Testimonies: Everyone asks, what about your feelings?, what about what you felt?, what about those good feelings?. Easy, when you only hear the nice, soft, white-washed version of Mormonism, of course it's easy to feel good about it, of course it's logical, and nice and everything is so good. I also felt good about Disney Land, about Santa, about meeting someone for the first time and having those great feelings, but as soon as you turn the coin and understand the not so good sides to Mormonism (the facts), you will start to realize why feelings are not the only good thing to rely on. Feelings alone are deceptive, they waiver, they aren't always reliable,I would say about 99% of TBM Mormons rely soley on the "spirit" (AKA Feelings) to make decisions, and let me tell you, they end up being confused as to why things didn't turn out the way their feelings confirmed it to them, but they always justify and rationalize that it wasn't meant to be lol, really?, that's not what you thought when the "spirit" had confirmed an answer for you. Anyways, good video.
