Hit as hard as you want to get hit, that’s sparring rule number one. If he’s trying to ko you respond in kind, train harder and knock the shit out of him.
That’s because professional boxing sparring sessions are different, they train for something specific, in this case a defense, in amateur boxing there is no time for defense because it’s only 3 rounds so you go all in

His style is 95% defensive and counter punching. You’ll see more defensive amateur boxers the higher you go in skill. Anybody can go in and go all in punching. But the boxer who can go all in and be on defense, he’s a problem!
You’re @ the wrong gym, or your Sparring with the wrong partners. The only time they kind of sparring should ever be taking place is if y’all got some lowkey or high key beef, and/or during the first half of a fight camp!
This guy is likely chose both because he's southpaw like Ryder AND tall and active like Benevidez and Bivol, they be thinking 10 steps in advance. But yeah he's mainly preparing for Ryder since that's his next fight, but they also don't think Ryder is that dangerous compared to Benevidez and Bivol, so he wants tall active guys to emulate what he's gonna be facing in the future.
I used to do that when I first started in my teens, especially against fast mf's, too slow them down, but after I got older, I realized that I wasn't really learning anything by doing that.

this is real sparring- working on getting better- not just having a gym war. hated sparring the jerks when u start boxing who wont let u try new things- and just wanna crack u. theres a definite mileage a boxer has in the gym and smart sparring is key until u develop a good enough defence
