In this video Mike from Porsche Brooklands shows us all the work involved to replace the front section of my coolant system. My Cayman 987.2 is finally fit and healthy again.

Wow, didn't expect a Porsche mechanic to film a video for your channel, awesome guys right there 👍

ornate hammer Exactly!! I don’t know the exact business arrangement, but there is something special about this Porsche garage. They do not sell new Porsche. In fact, I don’t think they are allowed to. It’s privately owned by someone, however 100% part of the Porsche family. They specialise in servicing cars, and that’s where I think they get most of their money from.

Good to see your Cayman fixed and ready for many more miles of enjoyment. Definitely not a job to do at home unless you have a scissor ramp or a four/two poster. Thanks to Mike for talking through the process, looks like you have found an excellent source for maintenance and repairs at Porsche Brooklands. Happy days 👍🏻.

That was wise to elect to replace all of the hoses. It was a lot of surgery to get to those hoses, but you will have peace of mind now. Carry on!

Great news the cars back and Porsche Brooklands seems to be a garage worth supporting. Enjoy. 👊

Roger Byrne Thanks! As I’ve got older in life, I have no time for poor service and unreliable workmanship. Anyone I am paying money to, in order to get something done, I want a hassle-free, no need to argue over issues service. That’s what I get at this Porsche garage, so yeah it does cost more than an independent, but life isn’t always about the numbers... I’m sure they’re great independents out there, but I have no motivation to look right now.

Good to see 'Max Smiles' back with the Cayman. Excellent service from your dealer and in particular the technician capturing the key elements of the work done and sight of the parts which will be hidden for ever more! I think given your longer term ownership thinking the replacement of the complete system as opposed to one part will give piece of mind however I suspect a period of no more bills for the remainder of the year would be welcomed! The fine weather has seen my search for a 981 Cayman becoming more challenging - as I said to you before I do believe the 2013/14 cars are being priced at least £1k to £2k more than last winter. However the real challenge is that when one appears that catches my eye it inevitably sells within circa 24 to 48hrs of being on the Porsche website. I lost out today on a Guards Red car at Porsche Swindon and then a yellow variant at Porsche Tewkesbury - I suspect it's nearing a situation where a holding deposit is necessary to allow travel time to view the car! Finally I think you'd mentioned you work in London, I'm occasionally up on business in London (central London) so if you've got the time lets see if we can catch up for a Coffee and Cars chat! Cheers, Kevin

Yeah, I'll drink to the no more bills part. I'm one of those people who like peace of mind, and as far as the coolant system is concerned, I'm sorted. With new shifter cables as well... would could possibly go wrong next ;-) Just started a new job in London, once things settle, yeah sure happy to meet up! eddie gray Porsche Brooklands could have serviced it earlier if I dropped and collected the car, but I couldn’t do that. I needed the car collected and dropped off, and for that you need to wait for a driver to free up. While it was on my driveway I didn’t want to use the injured car, I guess that 0.001% chance the coolant hose busted open, gushed coolant everywhere, left me stranded, and with a possibly overheated / damaged engine. Very important engines don’t get too hot. Long way of saying, yeah, I’m chuffed she’s back!

One of the reasons I would shy away from main dealer in the past was poor customer service. They just robbed you. This was the case many years ago when I had a BMW. The quest to find an independent garage for me was driven by honesty, customer service and reliability. Then price. With Porsche Brooklands I get the honesty, service and reliability. Sure an indie would be cheaper, but would I get the same service? Maybe? Just none I fancy around me. I mean, which garage would film the work being done for you??

@@MAXREVS Agreed Max, superb. I've looked at my aluminium coolant pipes and they are not corroded at all, so may just go for the rubber pipe swap - as £1300 is a big ask. I'm still tempted to do myself, hardest part is replacing the drained coolant ensuring no air is in the system, as you're really supposed to use a vacuum filling device connected to an air compressor. I read you can "burp" the system manually, so still an investigation in progress :-)
@MAXREVS
@MAXREVS 5 лет назад
😃When I saw the aluminium pipes, the old ones looked perfect. Just dirty. Agreed you could likely get away with those parts. Do you have access to a 4 post lift? Dropping the front subframe almost seemed like a 2 person job at times? Heck, if you pull off replacing all the coolant hoses kudos to you man👍🏼

@@MAXREVS you do the right thing though...if it needs doing at the time, get it done. Mine let me down when the gear linkage suddenly let go. I was still in first, so was able to dip the clutch when needed and find somewhere safe to call the AA😂. It seems this is not unusual, so don’t panic if it does happen to you.

I got wheel balancing done, which being a Porsche garage, they charge you their labour rate not a fixed price per wheel, so if I take that cost off, I reckon they charged me around £1,350 for just the work on the coolant system.
@TheAlc63

@@MAXREVS Thanks Max, considering parts and labour reasonably priced. Enjoy your baby now, fully aligned and with no coolant losses!

Great vid, really informative from Mike! I’ve got the same issue on my car, noticed it just after getting a wheel alignment annoyingly, can I ask what the cost of the job was?
@MAXREVS
@MAXREVS 3 года назад
It was done at Porsche and I believe it was close to £1250. I did the coolant crossover pipes as well, which wasn’t entirely necessary but I wanted it all new.

What was the cost ?
@MAXREVS
@MAXREVS 5 лет назад
creamdisco I paid extra for wheel balancing as I always like that done with my wheel alignment, and don’t have the exact breakdown to hand. When discussing pricing on the phone, it was around £1,300 having this done at Porsche, and around £1,000 at an independent. What I liked about Porsche Brooklands is that they gave me 2 options. Around £350 to change just the single leaking hose, or around £1,300 to get the whole system done. When doing the full system, as they have to drop the front subframe, this price also included full 4 wheel alignment which itself can cost around £160.

@MAXREVS

I did the full shebang as you can see, so the cost was around £1350 at Porsche, which included wheel alignment as the front subframe was removed.
@gusibrahim6961

Bulshit baffles the brain! The sub frame bolts have no tolerance they fit back exactly the same way they went out! Changing the rubber hoses is oook, but why changing the metal pipes?
@harrywalker969
@harrywalker969 3 года назад
The metal pipes corrode badly seizing the end of the rubber pipe inside, for the cost may as well replace all
