This is a follow up on the Toreando Passing Concept videos I have been making This video I talk about the one of the most effective way to set up your toreando guard pass. I find the toreando pass to be far more effective than the leg drag because you prevent your opponent from lassoing. I cover the idea of using the one knee up position as a method for setting the pass up and preventing grips. Leandro Lo uses this technique often when he is competing. Let me know if you like the videos or have questions!

This is fuckin awesome. No wonder with your reverse leg drag, and your knee cut, you are a nightmare at featherweight passing. Having fun with this because i really enjoy the one knee up position. Keep this solid material coming!

That's nice Jon. Really need to work on my guard passing and just the basic entry and grip establishment are so important. Thanks for the details and demonstration of how to go about working on this stuff in a relaxed experimental way.

Watching your videos has improved my open guard game tremendously! Both as a passer and defender. Thank you so much for these contributions. Question: When you Toreando from the one-knee-up position without the gi, do you have to modify your hand placement to generate the same drive? Best, -Kirk
@JonThomasBJJ
@JonThomasBJJ 5 лет назад
If you are doing no gi you can still do the toreando but it generally doesn’t have the same drive as when you can control the gi pants. I would recommend controlling higher in the shin closer to the knee for no gi. Thanks happy you like the videos.

Love it jon - enjoying the themes on specific positions. How do you deal with a collar grip from that position? Focus on breaking the grip first and then hit the toreando or are you more concerned with preventing lower body and sleeve grips?
@JonThomasBJJ
@JonThomasBJJ 5 лет назад
The collar grip actually doesn’t bother me much as long as you drive to turn the hip over hard you will still get it to work. In the match Leandro Lo vs Cardoso which is clipped in a few of my videos you can see Leandro doing the pass when they have his collar. Hope that helps. Thanks!

Super insightful video as always, Jon. I have one request. I would love for you, to cover some defense/pass from lapel guards. I'm struggling against a guy really good at putting me in worm/lapel guard, and also at using galaxy guard hook (the one Braulio popularized time ago I think?) to prevent the pass. In conclusion, I'd love to know if you have a general concept to avoid being caught in this kind of cloth entanglements. I know you have many different demands tho, so.. just keep putting out stuff and I'm happy! I still have to see something not excellent from your channel :) .

Will probably start with a worm passing series sometime soon in future first for starting in lapel stuff. Need to go more deep on galaxy Guard haven’t broken it down much yet.

Hi Jon, could you do a video on dealing with frames and collar grips when using Lo style/kneecut-smash-HQ approach? That's usually my issue with finishing these passes. Cheers : )
@JonThomasBJJ
@JonThomasBJJ 5 лет назад
Journ Tang hey I can do a video talking about the collar grip in general, it doesn’t really cause a problem when you toreando if you focus on turning the guys hip over hard. But it’s a relevant question. I will put one out next week on that topic. The hq position is also another commonly asked question so I may do a video specifically talking about it soon. Two great questions appreciate the questions.

Is a cross collar grip an issue if he gets it after you've committed to the pass?

One of the biggest problems I face as soon as I try to do the torreando is that my opponent is holding their leg on the floor or just in place so I can't pull or even turn their body like you did in the video. Do you have any tips for such a situation?

Hi Jon! If it were you, how would you guard retention to Lo's Torreando pass? I'm curious about your solution to Lo's pass.
