Update on Ace - I have gotten him involved in playing some of the games ru-vid.comUgkx1_veP7CApJK_GWy_TczaMciuG64PqJeU and I can see a difference in his confidence already! My other dog played along and he became intrigued - now its a daily part of our routine - about 3 times a day we do the shell game and the muffin tin game. I am so grateful for coming upon your training techniques!

6:10 that went from an invitation to play by Auggie (play bow with wagging tail) to uncool reaction by the bulldog SO FAST. Auggie picked up on it, I didn't. I only saw the reaction and realized after the fact that there was something going on. Amazing how quick these dogs recognize small cues.

Having had bulldogs for 14 years now, they do get rough with play and that has to be corrected behavior. Also they tend to grapple for lack of a better term than most other dogs I've seen. Just found your channel and really like what you show. Consistent, ongoing correction and praise for good behavior.

@@dmj2020 Yep! Boxer parent here too. They play so rough together which I guess is okay from what Joel is saying on these videos but they then struggle taming down the behavior on their own with other dogs and breeds. This is so true! I was walking my GSD 1-year-old in an off-road area, meaning off leash, and we suddenly came across an owner and his dog, also off leash. Because my boy is rather timid, and therefore sometimes aggressive, I immediately put the lead on and allowed them to meet. I also took a lot of cues from the owner. He was chill, had great control of his dog, and the meeting commenced without incident. The understanding/confidence of the owner is key.

I love how you point out the differences between correct and incorrect dog behavior, and explain what they mean. We had our current dogs effectively dumped on us (family member needed to get rid of them, and we took them as a favor). Neither I nor my husband had much dog experience. In retrospect, we shouldn't have taken the dogs, but I didn't know better. We just let them exist in our large backyard for several years, using them to scare away wildlife and alert us of trespassers. Over the past couple months I've been trying to figure out how to "train" them, and I quickly figured out that there were some basic things I didn't know: 1) How to interpret dog body language. 2) What behaviors I *want* out of the dogs. 3) How I need to act around the dogs. Your videos are answering those questions and more. Thank you!

"Seemingly nothing." I'm gonna go out on a limb and say that he may have seen posturing in Baxter that made the GSD nervous. It's possible that he was erring on the side of caution because he yelped, but either way the result is that Baxter's interactions with other dogs is subject to the man and that it's not okay to dip whatever he wants. A few people commenting on what they perceive to be a negative focus I.e. marking the dog’s unwelcome behaviour as opposed to hyping up the good. I had my friendly but polite Springer Collie cross at the park the other day, and she was nipped on the nose with zero warning by a French Bulldog - I’d much rather that this misbehaviour had been marked in this way, in the moment, rather than the owner’s passive acceptance and sheepish acknowledgement of their dog being a ‘grumpy little shit’, (or the fairly abstract idea of rewarding positives).

To be fair the German Shepherd is 100% focused on the Bulldog, while the Bulldog is focused on many things, including, but not only, the German Shepherd. The 3rd dog is minding his own business. We don't see the bulldog doing anything to him, even though he is sharing the same space with the Bulldog and the German Shepherd. In multiple shots, the bulldog is minding his own business while getting his ass sniffed by the German Shepherd. (5:41, 5:56, 7:34, 10:49) 6:09 - Here the German Shepherd barks at the Bulldog and runs away, the Bulldog only goes after him after he flees. The Bulldog is being reactive, not proactive. Also, isn't it ok for the bulldog to not want to play with the German Shepherd? Maybe being aggressive is a way of setting a boundary of "I'm not in the mood to play, get out of my personal zone" Also², isn't it healthy for dogs to set a hierarchy among themselves? I mean, If he humps on me, the human, I'd punish the behaviour (I'm the boss in the pack), but to me it's ok to let them do it among themselves. It's not like an Alpha dog would select favorites in his pack and protect them from dominance of other dogs in the pack. I'm just curious, that's all. Not being a jerk and trying to find random things to critique. Just want to learn more about dog training. Thanks for the content!

My daughters 4 year old Aussie shepherd has started humping random black dogs much bigger than him. He has never really bothered with other dogs in the dog parks. He starts by lowering his head slightly and very calmly walks towards the dog then, very casually he goes along the dogs side and subtly pushes sideways - after a couple of times of him doing this I know the the signals so can stop it before it happens - But I have not been able to stop the behaviour. He is not normally aggressive and this does not seem particularly aggressive- he always picks pretty chill dogs and owners and has no problem when I pull him off or stopping it before it starts. When pick up his leash to walk him away he walks nicely my side. I have had him dragging a line with the loop cut off since this started. I also have 4 others dogs and our walks were always very calm and peaceful but now I have to be constantly scanning for large black dogs.

I do not have other dogs that I can just add to my 1,5 years old neutered male. He loves playing BUT when he is off leash (and if I allow it) he will run up to other dogs at full speed and make them uncomfortable. How do I behave in a situation like this e. g. on the beach? He is too far away too quickly and also o focused on the run up to the other dog that I think I cannot get to him. Side info: Recall and everything else, also off leash walking in busy streets, works perfectly fine 99% of the time. Thank you!

Find local people with friendly dogs. Socialize him. Dogs are capable of communicating without some chicken head dude screaming at them any time they try to establish a connection. If your dog has rude manners, other dogs who are friendly and well socialized can give him a healthy correction. You don't need to intervene AT ALL unless it's unhealthy communication where someone's being hurt.

My Frenchie scratches every time he finishes peeing outside of our property. At our place he marks a lot but never scratches

My female Boston is very alpha and shows the same behaviors. I agree with your methods and you have to keep vigilant and be more alpha😊

No alpha is using his/hers position to be horrible to another being. This is not an alpha attitude, this is plain rude dog.

BULLDOG OWNER FROM NZ Wow, my bulldog x has the same weird behaviours. the random niping and dominant body language. My dog controls energy, by niping. humans and dogs.

Awesome for the owners seeing that other owners don’t like having their dogs humped by another ones dog all the time!

I accidentally gave my puppy Lilly to much grilled chicken nuggets from Chick Fila and now her stomach is making loud noises. Once in a while, on certain occasions she will lip lick and then she looks at me from the side❤

I feel like this bulldog will always need human intervention. This bulldog keeps escalating the situation! My GS boy has an almost identical temperament to this shepherd and I can't help feeling so bad for the shepherd.
