Learn how to add, subtract, multiply and divide fractions. Also learn what an improper, proper and mixed number fraction is and how to work with these fractions. The video will also explain reducing a fraction as well.
Im 15 yrs old and i regret not paying attention and sleeping in my math class so yep my whole elementary and highschool is just me sleeping in class and now while in quarantine i just realize that i have a goal in life i dont want to be lazy and now im studying all the way back to catch up my studies 💪
My biggest fear was fractions I’m not sure if I was traumatized at a young age because it wasn’t explained in a simple way, but what you did for me because I’m going to go get my GED at 48 years old. You literally have made me so good about myself because I understood exactly how you explain things THANK YOU I FEEL ALOT MORE CONFIDENT!!
The fact that so many folks caught the errors just means you understand what hes teaching. Thank the man for sharing knowledge in his free time and continue forward.
As a retired mechanical engineer with a PhD , I suffered a stroke and lost many of my mathematical abilities. I am trying to redevelop those skills. Glad to realize I was not going crazy when I noticed a minor error and thought I was wrong at first on #2. Don’t sweat the small stuff making mistakes. We all make them and if you don’t make mistakes, you aren’t doing anything. Thanks for the video.
I suffered a stroke too, and lost more than my math, more like, typing, reading, dialing a phone, that dates me doesn’t it lol? But I’ve truly enjoyed learning it this time around as opposed to when I was a student, I struggled and attention was not easy for me. ADHD wasn’t even a thing then, everything was looked at as just another excuse, we’ve sure all come a long way. Thanks for sharing!
I'm 25 and finally going back to school for my associates in Healthcare Accounting. First course is college math. I have always struggled with fractions, you have helped so much! Thank you!!!!
I always hated math, until I started going to school for lumber grading. I'm 34 years old and only learned how to do this stuff recently. I was embarrassed at first cause I was so far behind the other people, but now I'm proud myself cause I learned a lot. Fractions are your friend.
Thank you for explaining step by step, and not over-complexifying. It's been years since I've looked at fractions. You're a great teacher, and those are hard to find!
I am 71 years old and loving every minute of your exercises. I am impressed at how much I remember. I was above average in maths at school, but not good enough to successfully pass my maths "O" level as it was called at the time. I think you must be a good teacher because I feel really motivated and can follow. I did notice you made a small mistake in number 2 but please take your mistake as a compliment because I was following you so closely with TOTAL enjoyment. Also, I have a question. When I went on line I found a chart with BIDMAS/BODMAS and "your" PEMDAS but I noticed that with the BIDMAS & the BODMAS the division comes before the multiplication. Why ? I thought the order of execution was universal? Again, please take this as a compliment because I am enjoying every moment of your exercises. I have even bought myself an exercise book and have subscribed. And guess what ? I am an ex-teacher (but not maths LOL).
@@barbarajoycemartin-dowell3138 This is a big part of the problem. We don't understand and the teacher gets irritated (not all of them of course) and maybe makes a remark or whatever and that subject becomes a source of stress for us and then becomes a stress fixation and is virtually "finished" for us. I don't know what the solution is.
The important thing in the order of operations is to remember that first you address whatever is in parenthesis, then you address any exponents. Then you think of division and multiplication as a single step, meaning that you work the equation from left to right, doing any multiplication or division as you come to it in the equation. You do whichever of the two comes first in the equation. After you do the multiplication and/or division, you do the addition and/or subtraction as a single step, again working from left to right, doing whichever comes first.
I love your simple method for adding and subtracting fractions. SO much easier than finding the lowest common denominator! Thanks for your helpful videos!
I’m 11 and the whole year I was working in zoom and I couldn’t understand because I got distracted really easy and often left school so this helped out a lot and now I’m all caught up 😊
I am 45 watching your videos for my Para certification test. I have only a few weeks to prepare. Your videos are perfect and I can understand better watching your videos than what my professor taught in the class years ago. It finally clicked, thanks to you.
You have several mistakes because you're rushing but the third problem is 3 1/3 not 3 1/2. And the last problem is 7/2 × 3/7 when you do the reciprocal but you have taught how to solve fractions well. I especially like that bowtie method. Thank you!
Great tutorials! I will utilize your method with my Grade 6 students. However, there were two errors most like an oversight in your calculations. (1) You had 10/3 = 3 1/2. It should have been 3 1/3. (2) You had 3 1/2 ÷ 2 1/3 = 7/2 ÷ 7/2 but it should have been 7/2 ÷ 7/3. I just felt the urge to bring it to your attention. Keep up the good work!!
are you sure about that first mistake? I seeing that he did write 3 1/3..... the mistake he made was minor because we all caught it, he seems to be rushing against time for the video. For the most part, his method really helped me too.
Yeah i dont understand what these teachers are doing in these schools. I woukd watch my daugbters virtul classes to learn and never understood here i do and so does she. Thank yoh
That’s coz u never paid attention at class. LoL and there r so many things to learn in the class so we can easily miss out some of the section, like when we miss class(sickness/bunk/sports/quiz/events..etc) or when we dnt pay attention. :) 😬😱👏👌#peace
THANK YOU! , I'm 28 and I haven't gone over this in ages. I have a firefighter exam coming up so I needed to refresh my math skills, you honestly explain things so perfect.
I am so grateful to find you. I am 64 years old and I lost my husband and I am having to go back to school and take math test for jobs. I learned the binary but not mch more growing up. All these years I have needed to learn math and it was like an incomplete something I need to learn. It was hanging over my head. Math is hard for me and so much to learen in as short time. I prayed for help and the Good Lord showed me your channel. Thanks so much.
This is VERY helpful after not studying math for eons. Thank you for adding in the tip in regards to Algebra as well. Very helpful. I think you're by far one of the best teachers on youtube hands down. Thank you.
Yes, this was a wonderful, easy to follow refresher! I have been out of school 55+ years. A great refresher course, and new easier ways of doing fractions! I asked my graduating grandson what 40% of 18 was. He was stumped after several minutes of trying, and because of your instructions, I came up with the answer really fast! Thanks for doing these illustrations! Can’t wait to see the next video! 😀👍🙏👏👏👏👏
Honestly I was never good with fractions since I was too busy playing around in school, but this video helped me so much and now I understand fractions even more 😎
I was homeschooled and my dad struggled with math so I never learned properly. Studying to take my test for teaching certification and I am so grateful to you for helping me learn this!
@amberpants771. I was one of the last ones to get into university and after become a teacher (not of maths BTW LOL) without needing a maths "0" Level, so I really feel for you. But you're on the right site to understand and learn. I really wish I'd had a teacher like this one when I was in secondary school.
I work for a non-profit that provides Adult Education and I appreciate videos like these that can break down specific aspects of math calculation in a cohesive and easily understood manner.
Thank you! Very well explained. I used to love maths in school, now in my late 30s I am at Uni and it feels good to recall things I used to know quite well.
Earendil Penrose yes however when you are teaching, showing a method is supposed to make sense and it becomes confusing when the teacher makes the error as it no longer makes sense
Exactly. I see that this teacher is trying to help out these young kids and adults who are in need of learning. So that they are not being hoodlums on the street and living off of society and the government
Go and make your own video without errors then, no one is forcing you to watch this. But hey you can't make video because you can't even do fractions from 7th grade.
..THAT'S WHY YOU ALWAYS DOUBLE-CHECK YOUR OWN WORK..MATH HAS FEW ACTUAL 'GRAY' AREAS..IT'S USUALLY RIGHT OR WRONG..#5 HE LEFT AT 15/24, INSTEAD OF SIMPLIFYING IT TO 5/8....YOU 'ALWAYS' SIMPLIFY IT, WHEN POSSIBLE..
im a college freshman and i completly forgot how to do most types of math from highschool, so im taking a pre algebra course before i take a calc class, and now i have a math exam tomorrow at 8am. this helped me prepare perfectly, thank you. If youre reading this and are in highscool and plan to go to college, please just remember just a little bit of math because most majors will require some type of math course.
I honestly appreciate how you teach the lesson, but also praise us for trying and not to be stressed out. It’s helpful because sometimes when I’m doing the work. Hearing your little reminders really gives me the push to go forward. Thank you!
I’m currently a year 11 student I just started and I’m doing advanced maths and I’m struggling with fractions because I forgot them along the way of the school years. But I learnt a lot from your video thank you so much man keep up the good work❤️
@@3XCube86 Then watch and pause as many times as necessary and keep an exercise book and make notes that YOU can follow. Good luck from a very ancient lady.
Thank you so much for your math learning videos. I am going back to college and i have been learning so much more from all your videos then I ever learned in four years of high school!
Forgot so much from school, currently relearning alot of maths so thank you for being so clear! Very helpful, look forward to watching more of your stuff 😀
Where have u been all my life I never felt like I understood fractions until now. Wow!!! 36yrs old and needed a refresher trying to go back to school. Def wish u were my math teacher maybe I would have liked math. Thank you!!!
Thank you John, after 40 yrs out of school I find myself taking a math course and fractions have always been a problem, now I think with your help, " I've got this " !
Seriously I'm like 35 and I have been struggling with math ever since elementary school. This was so simple and I get it!! Thank you so much for this video!!!
I appreciate you, I am so grateful for finding you. You're an amazing teacher. It's been forever since I've taken a math class and I found your method of teaching is very helpful so Thank You.
Absolutely perfect! excellent video! I was an Ace in math in high school doing algebra geometry calculus trigonometry and I've forgotten every single bit of it lol this was a perfect reminder of the simple fractions
I'm 73 years old doing fractions was my favorite part of math and I was good at doing them but after watching this video I realized I had forgotten how to do them over the years.....thanks for sharing.....question.... can fractions be done using this new system common core that I been reading about??
MY GRAND SON HE IS 12 I DONT KNOW THIS I DROPPED OUT OF MIDDLE SCHOOL IN RURAL KANSAS TO HELP MY FAMILY WITH LIVESTOCK, FARM ETC. SO I DONT KNOW ANY OF THIS HELP ME
He teaches it well. Love the “bow tie “ method, it does the same thing by saving a step or two. The only problem is that he loves his 1/2 fraction so much that he uses it when it should have a denominator with a 3.;)
Thank you very much for sharing this clip and your time! It’s refreshed my memory right now as I graduated year 12, over 20 years now. At the moment I’m assisting with my 10 year old son..two thumbs up 👍 👍 thank you again..
Well i have never done algebra .My teacher sent us this video for FRACTION( OBVIOUSLY). But i think algebra is made up of percentages fractions and problems.Dont worry its ez once u dont think too hard
Thank you for this video. It’s been years since I’ve been in school and now having to help my daughter who’s in elementary with her fractions. I really need this review. 😊
I know this is an older video, but wow! I have never seen this made so easy, and I will be sharing your videos with my granddaughters. The q2 miss write, solidifies your clarity. If you questioned it, you learned it. So cool!
Omg your the only teacher I understand I’m trying to get into the LVN Program and don’t understand fractions to pass the test but your such a blessing your great you don’t stress me out thank you 🙌🏻
this is one of the most useful videos ive ever seen. i had no idea how to do fractions and i would never do my homework because i wouldn’t understand but i just realized how easy they actually are
All my ekemenrty school math teachers were doing mistakes like this. I ended up getting a great teacher at a Pharm Tech School, I become a Pharmacy Technician
That's funny! Who do you think made the videos . . . uh, math teachers!! It's just that you have something to go back and review and repeat so that you can think about it a little longer.
I think a big part of why on-demand videos are better too, are that we're watching them, when and where we _want_ to. Not everyone can absorb things when they are essentially forced to turn up to a class.
Living in New Zealand 🇳🇿 I've just come upon you and watched your 7 minute lesson. Very grateful as I struggled with fractions as a youngster. Golly I wish you'd been my maths teacher way back then. I will continue too view you as often as I can. You have a voice also visual instructions I find pleasant to listen too. Can you help please with percentages in this day and age for me, I do wonder. Thanks for letting me view your lessons.
This is great! I won't stop watching it. I need to pass this subject, and I finally found the right teacher! thanks for your videos. totally subscribed..
Wow, I had forgotten to work with fractions, and I'ven been in need of them. I was surprised how well they worked. I cooke a lot and I did the fractions using measurements in the kitchen, and they worked exactly as the theory. Maybe Math was invented out the real life, and not as theory! Thank you very much for your help!
As an adult ed teacher helping students with all kinds of learning differences and experiences with math, I am always thrilled to find something else to keep in my arsenal.
Thanks a lot, you simply simlify the problem , and your presentation is easy to understand. More power in your channel and I'm looking forward in your next class.
I hope you did well with your test. I'm starting my college career late also. I studied (math)for 4 months before taking my placement test. I did so good on the test I started at the college level Algebra (Algebraic Concepts). This semester my 2nd. I'm now in Pre-Calculus. I have a 4.00 GPA with an "A" in math. I'm also 67 years young. Goid Luck on your journey !!!
High good luck years needed algebra to graduate from college. I took remedial math, got my confidence and love of math. Found a great instructor for algebra and passed. Good luck.
I don't know how I went on from algebra to advanced placement calculus in high school. My algebra was so poorly understood (I was very good with geometry). I think I just hung out with smart nerds, who let me cheat off of them. It scarred my psyche. I had recurrent nightmares for years where I would be back in 12th grade high school having to take a math exam that would allow me to graduate. Going through your videos is like seeing a therapist. And it is so much fun. Thank you.
Some teachers intentionally try to make things sound more complicated, probably so they can feel smarter & others will see them as being more intelligent. There's topics that I know and have taught but I always explain in a way that everyone can understand.
this video amazed me with how I was able to quickly relearn fractions! I want to give myself the credit, however most of it goes to you for your easy to follow methods. Thanks!
using this video to brush up for my placement test for college. Its been 12 years since ive seen how the formula broke down and please to say. THANK YOU!
Beside the few glitches? I did actually learn something . The bow tie method!! I always go back over my early math. I'm learning pre - calculus in college, doing refreshers like this helps keep the mind sharp. If others have found the glitches be thankful you caught them and you do know Math!!! Thank You for taking the time to do the video!!
Thank you. I am 81 years old and was a little fuzzy on some of this. I am a pen turner and that involves measuring and knowing how to deal with fractions, so this refreshed my memory.
Wow ☝🏾 👌🏽 I have a A+ in College algebra ...from the old school...this would save me alot of time in my nursing entrance exams...never seen the last method 😳 or simply ignore it...with this video "I am done studying fraction!"
