Blaine, I just wanted to say thank you for your efforts with your tutorials. I have undertaken many handyman projects over the years, kitchens, bathrooms, tiles, cupboards etc but I was scared of plastering. Your tutorials provided me the confidence to undertake some plastering work and eventually the confidence to buy a run down cottage in Wales (a dream of mine) and start renovating it. I have just finished ripping out an entire lathe and plaster ceiling (which was sagging badly), fitting new 5 x 2 joists, reboarding it and plastering the ceiling. My first ever attempt at a ceiling. Without your input I would likely never have my dream cottage, or a new lifestyle and I can't thank you enough. Your efforts don't just provide people with skills, but in this case really contributed to a whole new home in a whole new, and lovely place and a new start in life in a wonderful adventure in rural Wales. I have returned to the UK from South Africa and my wife will join me shortly in our new home. Your efforts have contributed significantly to the success of the project.. !!!

Just wanted to say thank you so much to Blaine. The variety of great videos, advice and honest walk throughs has helped me learn so so much. I watched most videos again and again as I always miss bits and it’s always a pleasure coming back to the channel. Understanding how plaster reacts and works isn’t something you can read in a book. My first attempt after 2 weeks of near non stop watching vids and buying correct tool (love the speedskim) turned out really well and friends tell me it looks like a pro did it. Blaine is a true diamond, I offered to donate as a thank you and wouldn’t accept any money. I’ll be coming back again and again to these vids as I do more renovations and am looking forward to future vids. Absolutely great teacher. Words can’t describe. Peace and love

I’ve been plastering for over 15 years. I see a lot of videos on RU-vid that are absolute nonsense. This is not 1 of them. This is how to plaster to the nvq textbook. Been wanting to teach the labourer but been to busy. This video will be the perfect watch for him.

I recently purchased the online plastering course and today is the first chance I've had to put it to the test. 2 valuable lessons learnt first being don't use cheap buckets as the bloody thing cracked as I was near the top of the stairs resulting in a bucket of muck tumbling everywhere. Second is you have more time than you think when working with plaster. I'd plastered one wall and had loads left over so I started a second and flitted between the 2 and I'm really happy with the results. Thanks once again Blaine for the videos!

Hi mate, thanks for getting the course. I really appreciate it! Haha this made me laugh since that happened to me when I started - was it a £1 B&Q bucket by any chance ha?? That's great that you managed to get 2 walls on at the same time - sounds like you nailed it pal. Hope it still continues to go the same way and thanks again for going for it. Cheers pal 👍

@Lee Hollebon hello mate, I've found it a really good and useful start to plastering. My reason for buying was to save money on our extension and I've certainly done that. Although my walls aren't perfect every one I've done has been better than the last. Blaine does some great videos on you tube and I would recommend his on line course.

Hi mate .. just want you to know how grateful I am to you making these videos. I put myself through a plastering course , work with my mate and he try’s to wind me at every stupid little point , says things like “only a time served plasterer can master that” ,when it’s just skimming walls I’VE done 😂 and he’s been off , just stupid little things BUT see the tips from yourself and all the added little plastering lingo has done me proud. Thank you Please please keep making videos

Hi Blaine. I’m not a plasterer / good start.I’m a handyman doing different small jobs.Plasters x 2 arrived on a job to replace some drywall that was damaged in a kitchen. The board was cut / scrim tape applied/ then mixed Plaster of Paris powder into the bonding and plastered over the scrim. Apparently according to them/ it dries quick and doesn’t crack or shrink.

Polishing plaster is a bad idea and most don't bother with it now. A good tutorial though, thank you. I always used to tell my plasterers to put one coat on, if the wall was new and straight (it was because I just built it) that's all it needed.

im a spark...and up until now ...have only done bonding coat....now im doing refurbs and needed to learn how to plaster correctly. i mean proper, this guy has taken me through the entire process...and i am already getting smooth marble looking plaster after what i thought was one step....turns out its about 7 stages...first coat, flatten, second thinner coat, flatten, sponge, flatten lines, wet trowel, and cross trowel, and dry trowel ..... i learned the hard way , not to cut corners and get that excess platster off your coving and wood ...IMMEDIATELY... I plastered ceiling, then left it for about a month...thought oh ill go and scrape off the excess on the coving........took ME 2 BLOODY DAYS UP A LADDER TO GET AROUND THE WHOLE ROOM..had to use a stanley knife and meticulousy scrape it off inch by inch...LESSON LEARNED. THIS GUY IS THE KING OF PLASTERING.....YOU CAN learn to be a professional plasterer, just by following this guys training, like an apprentice.

It's all in the prep the most efficient gang I have ever been in the boss was very well experienced been all over the world doing the trade we had a French guy join us who was a fibrous plasterer he did around 10 years over there in collage his knowledge was absolutely insane he could build moulding on site amazing guy i soon realised he was on another level and on the ball the site we was on the site Forman kicked the other gangs out after he seen us at work they was making a right mess tbf and covering half the area turning up stinking of drink we smashed it for a full 2 month like that it was the best experience I ever got those 2 guys really was a step above the rest not just saying it. I went into it think I wouldn't learn much but I came out with more speed and efficiency i was running rings around the old school guys at 23 my boss done a top job with me I can't say no bad he showed me the way 100% never seen anyone go like he could absolute machine!!! I did try and race him but it was just impossible his years of experience been fast and efficient was near impossible to catch and the quality never suffered I just didn't get what he was doing but a master never tells all his secrets the guy who learned him was into heritage stuff well known on that side so I can only dream of the stuff that guy showed him rest his sole he was a proper old school guy if you pulled the wrong way you was likely to get a slap or a hammer throw at you but it made my boss levels ahead I can't express how good he is. The amount of restoration work we did was probably part of why he was so good at the normal stuff we was usually on some dodgy h frame scaffolded with a massive radius ceiling what no one would have any part of sometimes he would say we are living the dream and it left me scratching my head until I matured I understand what he meant after some house bashing brain dead work that stuff.

Wow, what a brilliant story, how lucky were you to be taught by someone so dedicated to his art and skill. You can't beat working one to one with a craftsman. One question, how does a customer know how to choose a superb plasterer over a very average one? Thanks x
@deeeeeeeench1209
@deeeeeeeench1209 4 года назад
Carol Cassidy you can tell a lot from how a job is priced maybe they measure every wall or ceiling noting it down you can for sure see they are very professional. Maybe you have to wait to get them in a sign of been busy. None of this is a definite maybe you can find a really good builder and he has a good set of plasterers but definitely don't let the builder do the job. The place to look on a plasters work is window reveals for been 100% straight especially the corners and beads make sure there full and corners of walls the same.

@@deeeeeeeench1209 Thank you very much for taking time to reply. I just phoned Blaine up to ask a few questions. I left him a girlie message, and he just phoned me back after about 15 minutes. What an absolutely fantastic lad he is so helpful, He has told me to search for a local plasterer, and look for the one with the best reviews. I did offer if he wanted to make a video at my house he could, so you never know... I have been a victim of buying a show house with all the walls covered in wallpaper. When it all got stripped off there was probably just a first coat of wet plaster underneath, the smell was terrible and the walls were a really dark red brown colour. It's impossible to paint the outside wall indoors, without the shadow of a breeze block wall showing through. I love my house so much, been here for 32yrs, but the awful inside walls do get me down. I have no idea how many thousands of pounds it would cost me to get it put right now. I wish I could put it right myself, but early on set Osteoporosis has put a stop to that. I am not supposed to get up a ladder after breaking both hips within 3 years. But I have learned so much from this channel. I only just realised that rendering is plastering outside. I have been trying to find out how it was done for years !! I am a new subscriber now.

The problem with learning about plastering on the internet is that there is so much regional variation in materials, techniques, weather and tradition. Not to mention what things are called even amongst people who speak english. I've been watching videos on youtube and every one is different.
