Andrew, I really appreciate the clips of native speakers that you include in your videos to demonstrate what you are teaching.

A very good instructor for Spanish. He makes it easy to learn it without a lot of confusion. I can learn fast from him, and I am an elder person!

I'm a Spanish student for about 3 months now. Prepositions can be confusing, but I think the English to Spanish translations are what really throw me off. I think literal translations (to the extent possible) are best for people studying and learning a lesson. I'm okay with such English translations as "I'm in the beach", "I remembered of him", or of course "that thing is pleasing to me" or "that music enchants me." It's not supposed to sound exactly like English because it's a different language. I like to think that my mind is flexible, and I can make sense of an upside down portrait if need be.

Yes, it’s okay to make mistakes and you will be able to get your point across. But over time, the goal should be to make less mistakes and have your Spanish sound more natural.

It is important to not let mastering which prepositions go with which verbs get in the way with practicing speaking and learning other aspects of any language. No one learning Spanish has ever spoken it perfectly for years and years of speaking. I have on several occasions found native speakers of the languages I speak making errors on many different grammatical structures. And it is a HUGE mistake to not speak as much as you can immediately when learning a language. Speaking with speakers of the target language is the very best way to learn the language. Even if they don’t correct you, their body language and responses will guide you to recognizing and correcting your own mistakes most of the time.

Yes, I agree, it’s important to try to use the language and not let fear of mistakes get in the way. But over time the goal needs to be to make less mistakes and speak more accurately as we improve.

Also! From the perspective of someone with autism, this kind of in-the-weeds and intricate details like prepositions, articles, and even filler words, is extremely helpful. I can’t speak for everyone but these types of things cause me a ton of anxiety in my first language! So despite growing up around my family that spoke Spanish, and having spent like 12 years learning it, my reading and listening comprehension is leagues better than my conversational Spanish.

great video. However, not sure why this valuable resource is not mentioned- a book called 750 Spanish Verbs And Their Uses. This book lists the verbs AND their prepositions. TONS of examples. I strongly recommend that anyone serious about learning Spanish buy this book.

I would also suggest to also learn verbs together with nouns and not separately. "flat tire" = "llanta pinchada" "flat belly" = "barriga plana"

The Oxford Spanish Dictionary gives: "ya hablaremos sobre ese tema en el momento oportuno - we'll talk about that when the time comes" as an example of using hablar and sobre together. It also says you could use "acerca de" there instead of sobre. Interestingly, they do give an example of "hablar a" as well: "¿qué manera es ésa de hablarle a tu madre? - that's no way to speak to your mother!" but it's nearly all "hablar de" examples.
@realfastspanish
@realfastspanish 6 месяцев назад
Yes, absolutely, you will be able to find examples especially in places like dictionaries of something like “hablar acerca de” and “hablar a” and as I mentioned in the video the key is to pay attention to the most common uses because literal translations often get us into trouble.

I’m just learning also,; so would the “a” in that sentence by the personal a ?
@kevingeoghegan294
@kevingeoghegan294 5 месяцев назад
@@elaineglen4413 Not sure. I think it just expresses the meaning of "to talk to", although you normally see "hablar con" used for "to talk to".

@@realfastspanish can you enlighten me, as I know the from/about but there are things it's attached to, and not even my Spanish teacher knows why?. Is it like ownership of something it's very confusing, or do I just accept it.
@realfastspanish
@realfastspanish 5 месяцев назад
There will be situations where you just have to accept it, such as the examples from the video “tratar de” or “dejar de”. As I mentioned, it’s best to learn these together as a pair and try not to apply a translation like “about” or “from”.

My Austrian wife always used to say ... I throw (something) at you ....rather than 'to you'....and then one day a cricket ball hit me in the face as I turned to catch it . Who says names can never hurt you ? 😀😀😀

@@airmat9obviously you’re still stuck in believing mainstream news. The climate crisis was designed by the Rockefellers in the mid 20th century to Control the entire population of the planet because they saw that wars were losing effectiveness (hint: they find BOTH sides because it’s better for their bottom dollar). You know, it’s almost Everywhere nowadays that climate crisis is not true, quite the contrary actually, we’re in a downward temperature trend. And yet, I can’t believe how many people still are in the dark. Oh wait, have you heard of censorship? Ya, probably not.
