Can we take a moment to appreciate the level of editing? at 1:32, the nice and neat way of putting number 3 there and then masking himself over it. It's incredible. He also makes short, straight-to-the-point videos which are more entertaining than those who start with "hey guys its your boy" or some cringe
As someone who is reasonably experienced with this particular skill set, here's some advice 1. so at 1:30 you can see he is holding the stick very tightly but in actuality its better to practice only holding the staff with thumb and forefinger because the goal is to use the staffs momentum to propel, after a while you need almost no strength other than required to hold your hand up 2. always practice slow as hell, as slow as you can stand doing it. This lets you find any points in the skill you are practicing that lead to a dead end then you can find the appropriate alternative. 3. I think of staff skills as kind of a puzzle where you have to work out what the pieces are and how they work together, once you've done this it lets you have fun jamming out to atmospheric music very well. 4. Have fun, every once in a while listen to some music you like and practice your flow, you'll acclimatise to this very quickly and you'll realise why we love it
Im also quite experienced with it because he made me fall in love with the skill. BUT am i the only one that thinks that the last trick he did is wrong? At 3:30 , you can see that his right arm gets it in the back very easily, but with his left arm he gets it out differently, and with unnecessary effort. It took me a while to learn it too, but the way to think about it is that its mirrored. "The way you put it in is the exact opposite of how you get it out". Although i am kind of scared when i get it out, that i might hit my head haha. But oh well. Either way im happy with the video, but it will confuse people that are willing to learn this skill
@@justsomeordinarywatcher3146 scientists can teleport atoms to other location so in years to come science will be able to teleport a human so yea teleportation is possible, look it up
I had a few straight stick objects lying around the house and got bored, looked up the first method and figured out the other two myself. Took me a while but now I'm doing great with it, and I've figured out some other techniques as well. This is a great explanation of how to pick up the hobby for yourself. 10/10 great vid
The talent he’s got which is the is best talent and a talent that most people struggle to attain is Determination Trust me don’t get into a fight with this guy coz he doesn’t know what losing is and you will probably tire yourself be he’s warmed up This man’s determination is an inspiration to me and his smile is what motivates me You earned yourself a subscriber but I doubt I’ll make a difference I’m here with you till end Mike Shake and I’m before you get big and after
Just got a staff, this video inspired me to pick up a broom a year ago and I finally got around to properly practicing the tricks you did in this video. I don't know how you make these videos look so easy in a handful of minutes when it really is a skill that takes hours and hours to learn.
We live in an era, where if you want to learn something, just look it up on your phone. These last few weeks me and my wife taught our shiba inu how to stay , lay down, sit, paw, stand up,get him use to staying in his kennel, we also taught him how to get over his seperation anxiety when were not home and how to get him comfortable around cutting his nails and washing him, how to purchase a car, how to shoot and edit youtube videos, how to get ripped and shredded and do a pull up, how to live on your own and get a good credit score, basic stuff. You know what I mean
Exactly! I totally agree. We have a library literally in our pockets and in our homes! I feel like we should take more advantage of these sources of information of course 🌎🔥⚡
Thanks for showing us some mistakes you make before the final result! As a new one it's calming to see same mistakes I make while practicing. I'm motivated to keep going!
Duuude thank you SO MUCH! Im really bad with instructions and i've watched like 5 different tutorials on this topic over the years and yours is the only one wich ACTUALLY made me learn how to do this, thanks man
Hey Three quick tips for anyone that wants to learn this at home after seeing: - mark the balance point of your staff with tape (will help with wandering as you spin, as well as really important if you want to take it further) - add a bit of weight to the ends of the staff (this helps you feel where the staff "wants to go" and makes you improve technique faster, you can use bicicle tubing or similar, tutorial ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-lAmPEXL2odI.html) - Mike spins the staff clockwise (from his perspective), leaving the harder figure-8-move (second trick) for his left hand. If you are right handed, learn it the other way around (or learn both with both hands, so you will be able to turn). Also: go out and try it. Spinning things is a great hobby and there is so many resources here on yt Cheers
heyo, black belt here. i think it’s very interesting that for the second “trick” you learned the inverted way instead of the normal way first. normally, the thumb leads. pinky leading is inverted. obviously still works tho!
Black belt also here, I noticed the same thing my guy 🌎🔥⚡ I saw the tutorials Mike used from Jake Mace and Mike basically just followed the "levels" on Jakes videos. And yeah, pretty cool tho!
God bless you for making this video, my brother from a different mother Mike Shake. This is the best twirling video I've ever seen. I'm practicing bo twirling so I can show off to my 2 sons (7 and 8) when we go on our hikes. I use my hiking stick. Thanks for taking the time to make and share this awesome video.
THANK YOU for including the parts where you got stuck and how you got unstuck! No matter what new skill you learn, that is the pivotal ingredient for success! I like how you broke it down into little steps, huge help
I really appreciate you showing us your errors,,, it helps to know those,, so that we know not only what not to do, but , how to it perfect it from there
Okay, sir, you have helped me learn the first trick in less then half an hour, and do it well with in an hour and a half. I thank you for telling us how to do it as you learn to do it yourself.
He did a really good job 🌎🔥⚡ I recently uploaded mine and it's super hard to create a video that has all of these characteristics. But the Mikes would agree that nothing is impossible
MIKE SHAKE DESERVES LIKE 400M SUBSCRIBERS HE GAVE ME THE MOTIVAION TO WIRTE WITH MY LEFT FRONTFLIP HANDSTAND BALL SPINNING UR THE BEST Mike shake God bless u
@@tyr1_j ik. I said that because there is always a ex-teacher that has a short definition for success. They think people are successful only if they are doctors, lawyers etc. So, she might be watching this rn. Who knows...
The 3rd one is really hard for the first time It took me literally 2 weeks just to understand how to bring my left arm from back to front! This shows Mike is just amazing
Pro tip for Bo staff spinning: If you can afford it, just buy a Bo staff. A Bo staff isn't just a dowel of wood or a broom handle, it is tapered towards the ends. You can get a red oak Bo (heavier) or a white oak Bo (lighter) and it is entirely personal preference, but the tapered nature of a Bo as compared to dowel or a broomstick puts more of the mass in the centre. It allows it to spin tighter and turn around your body more easily. I used to spin Bo with a dowel and it always felt unsteady, got an actual Bo staff from a martial arts store and saw an immediate benefit. Everyone's financial state is obviously different but definitely look online or at local martial arts stores and consider actually buying a Bo staff.
@@Dep7jok3r bruh no I managed to hold my breath for 2 minutes and 13 seconds And i am 16 years old .. i go a lot to the sea so ig its cuz i dive a lot.. But another youtubers said its possible to do within 10 days
Ah thank you so much for this tutorial! I’ve been trying to learn these moves with the staff for a while, and the way you explained the moves really helped!
Yeah he did a really good job, I uploaded my staff spinning video and editing it right was super challenging but worth it. I agree though this is a great skill to learn
I refuse to believe that this channel has only 300k subs. The editing and time put into each of Mikes videos deserve way higher recognition. I’m sure Mike will grow soon.
You are just awesome, man!! Literally, I get inspired every time after watching your videos and that teaches me a very important lesson. If "Mike Shake" didn't know that tough skill before but can do it now easily after hard work then I can also do it no matter how much time it takes as a beginner.
Hey, Mike! I got new suggestions for new skills You could: Learn how to speed read, learn a new language, play an instrument (if you have one), you could learn how to paint amazingly, and how to get faster in running!
Oh My Gosh! I cant believe what i just saw! I'm 16 and It's been a dream of mine to be able to do that ...few months ago, i even tried learning it but i quit it after not getting desired results after few days, but i now know what i was doing wrong..(i.e. not skipping!) I'm so grateful that you uploaded this video. It really encouraged me to give it another try...Thanks for the inspiration and motivation Mike! Love from Nepal, the country of Mt. Everest!
I knew how to do this, there's still a lot of more tricks you can do, like backend while spinning it, throw it up the air, then spin it around your leg, or either spinning it while spinning your body, I'm a majorette so it's basically a baton twirling activities, I started when was at the age of 10, so now I don't really worry about the baton hitting me. Try it out again, it's fun!
That's super awesome! As a majorette what is the "baton twirling discipline" you practiced? I've just been basing my staff spinning skills on my channel on martial arts and baton twirling because I didn't know about any more disciplines
