Swimming is complex, it’s like creating a sculpture, The more attention you pay t details the better it will look. But the details have a ranking of importance. There are some things you need to focus on before getting caught up in less important details.
The following is a list of skills in order of importance, so you can focus on the important details first:
breathing patterns
head movement
arms movement under water
legs general movement
core muscles and stability
feet positions
gliding through the water in breaststroke and butterfly
rotation in freestyle and backstroke
arms’ movement above the surface
knee joints and movement of the hips
tight streamline
flip turns and transitions
underwater dolphin kicks and breast pullout.
For all the things above I would recommend learning them in freestyle first then backstroke, then breaststroke and lastly butterfly. Once you master all the numbers above on all four strokes you can move on to the next set of skills.
Starts (dives)
breakouts
swimming at different speeds
Correct technique at higher speeds
endurance
strength -swimming with equipment - dry-land - gym
hypoxic training
mental training
racing strategies
outside factors
we have done videos on almost all of these details, and we will do in the future the ones that are missing. So if you want to learn or teach swimming in the order we think should be taught, click on this playlist and watch them in order:
