Your videos are awesome. I'm learning a ton, but this is my first instrument. I struggle reading music. I'm okay with one finger. Fret music is where I feel comfortable right now. Can you please put more videos out playing with one finger. Thanks Jim
Jim! After putting videos + videos into the void it’s so encouraging to hear that they are helping! Many many of the songs on our channel can be played with 1 finger (most either detail or touch on that point). “Jolene” is another really easy one to tackle, if you’re looking. 2 frets total!!
@HeyInglewood Thank you! I will try to tackle that! Just one more question please, is there a trick to holding down all four strings at once? For making a bar chord? I have a lot of trouble with that. If I try to do very many other chords my fingers can't seem to reach everything....any suggestions? thank you again
It would be hard to describe here, and wo seeing your hand positions, but there is a way I recommend… (this is where I plug my paid chord guide 😜 heyinglewood.com/collections/downloads) But essentially you have to get your hand around so your knuckles are parallel with the neck… that would mean when you lay your finger on the fingerboard, it would be a somewhat natural motion, not awkward, bending and everything… But getting your left-hand around to be parallel like that, not choked up holding it the neck like it’s a baseball bat, is what can be uncommon unusual for people. I also suggest trying to make sure your thumb is about the centerline of the back of the neck. Imagine you were trying to touch your thumb to your middle finger, with as much space in between as possible in that area between your thumb and your middle finger, and then pin the neck in between. There should be some space, air, between your palm and the neck. Again, this is very difficult to describe in a RU-vid comment.!!
Yes, 1000% yes. That's the whole (well, 80%) of the reason I decided to champion them. Hit my website and check the "learn to play in an hour" series. No spin or hype. It's completely possible you could play "free fallin'" in an hour. Had one of my "real job" colleagues try it out and she went from holding the instrument backwards to (kinda) playing it in ~45min. www.stickdulcimer.com/pages/1-hour-video-tutorial
Good plan. Merlins aren't insanely expensive, so hopefully doesn't take you too long. I carry Factory Seconds on the site, which are a little less expensive, FYI.
