Hey Swimmers - I believe that EVERYONE can swim without fear and with 100% confidence. We just need to maintain our comfort levels and learn to eliminate fear. You see, it is our engrained psychology of fear that is preventing us from learning to swim / learning to tread water, it is not our inability physically or incorrect technique.

I have to complete a 10 minute tread for work in about 3 more days along with other physical things and i just learned how to swim/tread 3 weeks ago. As of yesterday i was at a 5min 35sec best tread time. I watched this video about breathing and I was able to do 13minutes. More than double of my max. Thanks guys.

Yess I got exhausted when treading ,am I doing the movement fast or is something else Im doing wrong ?
@caribeswim
@caribeswim Год назад
Most likely - we need to have a foundation of relaxation and our movements VERY relaxed, fluid, & slow. Most issues come from trying too hard to stay above water, which inevitably, just makes you more likely to sink. Keep watching our content and practicing - more practice always makes swimming easier!

Hey guys I'm s 60 year old female with a progressive lung disease and my lung capacity is about 55-60%. I do find it hard to stay afloat but your advice on taking a deep inhale will help me so much and I can't wait to try it out. Do you have any other tips for people with decreased lung capacity? Thanks in advance
@caribeswim
@caribeswim Год назад
Hi Lystraseymour! Thank you for commenting and sharing your story. The good news is that our lung buoyancy is the 2nd most important aspect of learning how to tread water. My best advice is this: 1. Get a progressive belt > I have a new video coming tomorrow that describes more. You can also find it here: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-Uhp9vJyDR1o.html 2. Use that belt in conjunction with relaxation - learn how to best do that here: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-bPd6BOhGQzc.html 3. Practice Practice Practice! ---- We CAN do this with a 50% lung capacity! I would LOVE to continue supporting you > please stay in touch and let me know how it is working or where I can support further! YOU ROCK! Coach Jeff

Regular breathing exercises will help tremendously ❤ practicing deep diaphragmatic breaths and a slow exhale (8 seconds) hold at the bottom (2 seconds) and inhale (4 seconds). I recently began doing “free diving” stretches too - never do them if they’re creating pain but what you do is exhale as deeply as you can and then sit up straight (they call it making a vacuum) and hold it for as long is comfortable… repeat that process for 5 minutes or so and you’ll be working on strengthening you diaphragm:) I hope this helps!!

I still have a problem with the coordination with the legs and with the floating. Any specific advice also how do you stay calm?
@caribeswim
@caribeswim Год назад
Hi Gameman876 - thank you for watching and commenting. I would start by watching this video: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-bPd6BOhGQzc.html --- Using our legs is only done Once we have mastered relaxation, breathing [buoyancy], arm technique, and body position. A full description of how to do that is included in the above video. From there, we want to remove any kick that might actually be too complicated for us right now and slowly reintroduce a kick that is more efficient. Remember, we do not need to do egg beater kick or even breaststroke kick during treading water, there are easier techniques to begin with. For your floating, this is a function of breathing and relaxation! ---- Hope this helps, stay in contact so I can help with your progress and follow along! Keep Treading, Coach Jeff

@caribeswim
@caribeswim Год назад
Hi Kalyan - thank you for watching and for your comment! I think you need to relax WAY MORE. Most of the time, when we have that much difference between up and down, it is because we are carrying too much tension in our body. Work on breathing exercises before starting treading and even some meditation. When you think you are relaxed... relax more!

I’ve just started to learn how to swim at 44. I can tread water in the shallow end for over 5 mins! But when I go into the deep end I panic and can’t tread for very long. Even though I can swim now the fear of deep water still scares the hell out of me.
@caribeswim
@caribeswim 5 месяцев назад
Thank you for sharing and welcome to the channel. Remember, depth is a psychological barrier and it is our reaction to this that creates the physical barrier in the water. Keep SLOWLY exposing yourself to the deeper end, with support or aid of teaching and you WILL overcome this. Keep checking back with the channel - in March we are launching 2 new ways to learn with us - both virtually and in person! If we can offer any support, please don't hesitate to leave a comment or email us! Keep Swimming, Coach Jeff
