Angela, a sincere thank you for posting this video. Back in high school, I was “three cord Eddie.” Decades later, thank God for RU-vid! I’m now retired and picked up my old Ovation a few months ago… it needed some fretwork… actually cut my first finger on the loose second fret of it, which inspired me to purchase a new and upgraded acoustic guitar. My decision was to order a Martin Grand Performance Cutaway, 16 series (made in Nazareth, Pennsylvania - not Mexico), with electronics. I actually drove from North Carolina to pick it up at the Martin factory in Pennsylvania. While there, I did the factory and museum tours (an incredible full day), then got to play my new Martin through an amp in room they have set up there. What a great time! If any of your viewers ever get to visit Martin Guitars, as soon as you enter the building, the museum is on the left, the gift shop is just after that on the left, the reception desk is in front of you and the factory beyond that to the right. But what’s really GREAT, is they have about a dozen acoustic guitars (one 12 string) on stands just beyond the reception desk - you can walk up to those guitars, pick them up and play any of them… they all have stools in front of them. Just such a beautiful place! When I returned home, I waited less than a week and headed over to Harry’s Guitar Shop in Raleigh - my local Martin dealer who also stocks Fishman amps (what you play and play through in this video). I wound up picking up the Fishman “Loudbox Mini Charge” acoustic amp, which has a built-in battery, so I can play “unplugged”. My goal is to record “The Rain Song“ and have it up on RU-vid sometime this summer so I can share it with friends and family. Thank you so much for all you do for us music lovers! Ed L. Angela, 61 years old here. Decided to start playing again. Had to stop due to neuropathy in my hands. But I'm starting to be able to play again! It's been really hard to get the dexterity and flexibility back into my fingers, but i believe it's coming around ! I'm 100% deaf in my left ear due to an acoustic neuroma, but i can still hear the harmonics ! You are definitely an excellent instructor with the patience of Job ! Looking forward to the 2nd part ! I want to be able to play this so well that i can sing with it too. I will get there ! Thank you, i subscribed !

I bought Houses of the Holy in 1973 when I was at University in the UK. At the age of 68, I can now play my favourite track on my lovely Epiphone guitar, which I bought second hand in the same year. Thanks for such a brilliant lesson.

Angela, I'd like to sat this. I've seen so many guitar masters and instructors on RU-vid (though I don't come across a single good accordion instructor). Unlike others, your instructions always hit on the nail when telling us to hold what strings and what fret. You do have the knack of teaching a musical instrument. Keep up with good work!

Angela, that's what I love about the old days....stereo separation on the tracks....so much easier then to zero in on the acoustic in one speaker, plus analog being a warmer sound as well with each track....loved Pages finesse with sound details too! So, every now and then, I just surf thru RU-vid. Today, I was watching some Zep videos and came across yours. First, like you, the Rain Song is my absolute favorite LZ song. It just calms me in a way that only great music can. Second, the enjoyment of this song and the desire to see if I could play it is why I bought my first guitar. Because of the resources available today, like RU-vid, with tutorials for most anything, it didn't take long and I was able to make sounds that sounded similar to the song I loved. With practice, I got more and more of it down. Anyway, I enjoyed your video and it inspired me to pull the old Martin out of the case and play a little. Thank you.

I’ve been trying to learn guitar since I’m 13, now 62, I started again during Covid and I’ve been making progress. I love Zep and the rain song Is one of my favorite songs- to think after a week of watching your video a million times I can do this is simply unbelievable. I’m in awe of you and your style. Angela, I am 58 years old, and learning to play guitar along with my son, I’ve been frustrated trying to learn from other people online, you by far are the best teacher I’ve seen, I built a Les Paul kit, along with my son, and painted it, this tutorial is the first Zeppelin song I am learning, Page was my all-time hero growing up lol. I started learning this in standard tuning many years ago - many years before the internet even. I played it pretty much how Page played it live at MSG '73. Seeing the open tuning for the first time on YT was such a breath of fresh air. So many open string strums makes the playing resonate so much. Now I have a cheap and nasty acoustic permanently tuned to this song. As a certified and permanent member of the "intermediate" species of guitar player, it is probably the only thing I will ever be able to play that makes people go Wow! (they don't know) about the tuning and..... I don't tell them🤥

❤ great tutorial. I've been playing guitar for 50+ years, many years pro (paid). This is a most difficult song to learn! THANK YOU for your s-l-o-w teaching + repeated repetition (just as annoying and frustrating as my 1st music teacher in 1967 but... it's the best way to learn complex song). Legend says > Jimmy Page wrote this song cuz George Harrison (The Beatles) said "Led Zep - decent hard rock band but... they can't write a balled". Jim's weird tuning was to make it awesome (+ to mess with George when he tried to play it!)

I hope so badly you read the comments after 7 months. Sincere gratitude for this video. Probably not general consensus but IMHO my favorite of all Pages pieces. You couldn’t have taught this in person any better than you did on this video. I will watch this video until I can play this without the video. Your patience is amazing and you don’t rush through it. Finally, I have no clue how but I just found your channel and I will be watching many more. One last thing… I love that you play the song in the beginning. So many instructors online fail to do this. By hearing the song in its entirety to start the video it puts the viewer in the right frame of reference. Nothing more enjoyable (to me) than playing in various tunings. Again, thank you so much!

I learned this song a long time ago. The chord shapes and changes are pretty basic with an open tuning but it's all in the "way" it is played. You do an excellent job in evoking the emotions of optimism and loss contained in the lyrics.

I figured out the basics in standard tuning for fun, but nothing like the complete details like this. Very nicely done!

Also my favorite Led Zeppelin song. I had a vhs copy of the song remains the same in my younger years, and I listened to the rain song over n over.. no quarter would have to be my second favorite.
