It's about time I learned how to drag some baits across the bottom. I tried everything from the motor to the paddle. I think I have it figured out but I will need some practice.
Dragging baits I feel definitely increases your catch rate for blue and channels. Also great when fishing a new lake or a lake where you haven't been in a while and you don't know where the fish are. The hardest part to learn is boat/kayak control. That takes some experience, but once you get it figured out it is a great way to fish. Tappan is one of my closest lakes but I seldom fish it because of how much pleasure boat traffic it gets. The next thing you will have to add is planer boards. LOL.
Good to see you got to try some dragging! It's upped my catch rate by at least 2x-3x. Just wait until you get the "Bastard" all done and then put a GPS controlled trolling motor on it! Wanna talk about relaxing... turn on a podcast, set a course with the trolling motor and just catch fish! Little tip... Not sure how it is on a kayak but on my pontoon I pretty much have to drag into the wind as it acts like a big sail. And as I'm sure you know by now Tappan can get pretty hairy when the wind blowing pretty good.
