Learning Italian with Mike Patton | Lesson 1: How to say "Fuck You" in Italiano
Vaffanculo | pronounced: vah•fah•en•coolo
Literal English translation: "Go fuck in the ass"
Vaffanculo is a contraction of "va' a fare in culo" (literally "go do [it] in the ass").
The phrase/word/expression can be used in place of the English expressions "Fuck you" or "Go fuck yourself".
There are several variations for this expression, depending on dialect and region.
"Vattela a pijà 'n der culo" is the Romanesco form for vaffanculo. In Northern Italy "vai a cagare" (lit. "go to shit") is also used, "vai a dar via il culo" (lit. "go sell your arse") or "fottiti" (go fuck yourself). In the Neapolitan language its pronounced "va fangool" - often the "va" is omitted.
Stay tuned for lesson 2!
