Hello everyone! These are three original designs for minimalist wallets that can be cut on a laser cutter. I use Fusion 360 and a parametric model, that allows me to do some really crazy things, like auto generating diamond stitching patterns! All the patterns are available on my Etsy shop, link below!
Special thanks to Xtool for sending me a new P2 cO2 Laser to test! They gave me no restrictions or approval requirements on the unit, so all opinions are my own. I do like the system, and the software. Look forward to working with it more in the future! If you are interested in this laser, here is a link for a discount!

For you Cricut people - this one is likely not for you. I do think I will circle back soon and see what I can do to make this work on the Cricut Maker!
So what were my power settings?? Well - I will tell you, but also tell you that yours will likely be different. I engraved this leather at 600 speed, and 25 power. I cut at 30 to 36 speed, depending on how thick the leather was, and 75 to 80 power. But every type of leather is different. Even applying the finish beforehand makes it much more difficult to engrave or cut, so you will need to increase power and slow speed accordingly.

Very nicely done, I also have an OMTECH but without all of the upgrades. Your review of the XtoolP2 showed a lot of features that I wish I had available. Thank you for the in-depth on making the wallets, I haven’t done any leather work yet. I have downloaded a design for a no sew leather bag that will be my first project. I have been making leather labels for my wife’s bags and have always had trouble cleaning off the soot, l will now finish that first before engraving. Thanks for the tip.

Hi there, about the diamond stitch, I am a saddler and work always with diamond stitches. You beter use a round hole in the corner.
@ThisIsHowIMadeIt
@ThisIsHowIMadeIt 7 месяцев назад
Interesting…. Why is that?
@stefaandeconinck1531
@stefaandeconinck1531 7 месяцев назад
@@ThisIsHowIMadeIt Whe do it because the leather would not rip in the round corners. And with a round hole in the corner you can make always the same stitch in the corners. So if you see the front of the wallet the corners are always symmetrical. Al this is in the case for those small wallets. If you have longer corners with 3, 4 or more diamond holes you can use the diamond. In the small corners you have to turn to fast. I hope you understand my native language is Dutch. Greetings from the Netherlands

@stefaandeconinck1531 I do! Thank you for the tip! I do think the computer does a good job at “following” the path. If the path is long, it may be several holes…. If it’s short it may be a single but it would be turned correctly. I can definitely see the benefit of doing by hand…

Oh, I am a Cricut person. Flirting with getting a laser engraver, though. Is it time to consummate the relationship…? Now I know to use a bit of water when burnishing edges. Thank you! Love the designs. Thank you for sharing.

Thank you! The software for xtool is very similar to design space. I think every Cricut user is on some path to a laser :)

Thank you. I read from another leather making guy that is better to wet leather and damp with a cloth excess water and to dye the leather after the engraving or cut to minimize burn and odors.
@ThisIsHowIMadeIt
@ThisIsHowIMadeIt 5 месяцев назад
I have seen that from a lot of people - who also frequently wash the leather with soap and water after. Just so much easier to finish the leather first....

I sure have been wanting a good pattern for wallets men will actually use. I appreciate when you make them svgs for cricut maker. I was gifted some real leather that is awesome, but I don't know the weight buy since it's so flexible. I'm thinking it won't be good for this. I love how my key west clutch ended up with some stiff faux leather. Thanks for great patterns and instructions!
@ThisIsHowIMadeIt
@ThisIsHowIMadeIt 10 месяцев назад
You are so welcome! I am serious about circling back and seeing what I can get done on the maker for the stitching lines. If you measure how thick the leather is - there are online charts in mm that will tell you the weight.

Just the patterns on the Etsy shop, the artwork I found and either licensed or it was free. Can’t remember, but I don’t put art up on Etsy unless it’s something I made from scratch :)

Have you found any replacement bottles for the sprayer you got? I know you said you had three so you probably don't need a replacement. I was getting ready to order it and did not see a replacement as an add-on. Always a great vid.

Do you think this could work on a 10W diode laser?
@ThisIsHowIMadeIt
@ThisIsHowIMadeIt 2 месяца назад
I have been using a 20w diode over the last several weeks and it works great. I’m sure it would work…. Would recommend keep your leather thinner, maybe a 4oz max for clean 1 pass cuts

I’ve seen plenty of people cut leather with diodes…. No direct experience tho…
