What's going on Bustlers and Bustling!! happy to bring you guys season 4 episode 4 of our Game of Thrones reactions! this episode was nuts. Firstly, the man (and woman) to thank for killing the most unbearable tv character ever has been revealed. someone gotta bake them a cake or something. secondly, the stakes for Bran and Co. have been increased to an all time high! Jon is on the way- but there's no telling whether or not he'll get there in time. Thirdly, the white walkers are closer than ever. Now we know how they're made, and who knows how many babies Crastor has sent to join their army by now.. other than that we saw some Cersei stuff and some Jamie and Brienne stuff. Definitely an eventful episode that has me super hyped to get to the next one. glad you guys are here with us, and I'm excited to see yall on episdoe 5. pce :)
be sure to follow us on patreon for the full length reactions + more!!

For me personally? I love the idea that if you've survived long enough to be old to be playing the game of thrones/survived Westeros, you're probably one of the most dangerous people in the land, which is why Lady Tyrell and Tywin Lannister genuinely respect and fear each other. SO good.

Locke is in fact the guy who chopped off Jamies hand. He's just playing down his reasoning for going to the wall to cut suspicions of his ties with the boltons, as Jon at this point would be aware of the red wedding.

GRRM said that in his opinion Melisandre is the most misunderstood character of the show. in her religion, the red god (R'hllor) is the god of light, fire and life and in the lore of this religion, this fire god keeps an eternal fight with his Nemesis, "the great other", a god of darkness, ice and death. in the books, the white walkers are called "the others", so it's a interesting perspective to look at. Melisandre might do her thing, but it's waaay more complex than pure evil shit, if you think about it, right now, she's the antithesis to the white walkers.

I read somewhere that the *scene* with Jaime and Cersei wasn't written that way in the book. It wasn't supposed to look like r*pe and in the books, the scene is definitively not r*pe. It's actually annoying how the show did it that way because Jaime's character was always against r*pe, to the point that he'd even execute his own men if they did it to civilians.

For whatever is worth, the rape scene was not intended to be a rape scene. It was suppose to be consensual like in the book but they completely botched it. In the book, Cersei initially says no but but by the end is verbalizing her consent by saying "yes yes" over and over. The show failed to do this yet they continued to insist it wasn't rape. So bizarre.

“I’ll reach through the screen and kill Baelish myself.” Love that energy. I know other people have said it, but Aaron really is different ever since the Red Wedding. Since Catelyn died, I haven’t seen him cry. He’s also more pessimistic and it makes him a little better at guessing things. Proud of Olenna for protecting her granddaughter. Margaery played Joffrey like an easy chess game, but eventually Joffrey would’ve hurt her like he did to Sansa (and Ros). There’s only so much control you can have on a psychopath. “You could’ve gone easier on him.” Jon acting like he didn’t do that exact same thing to the new Night’s Watch boys whenever he first got to the Wall haha. Tommen and Margaery is so fucking weird. Good ole medieval times? Speaking of medieval times, how great is it to be a woman in these times! Craster’s daughters have known nothing but rape and abuse. I feel like Jaime always wanted Ned’s respect. He seems most upset about how Ned treated him versus anyone else, and he told Ned about how killing the Mad King felt like justice for Ned’s father and brother, but still Ned never gave him any respect. So I don’t know, maybe he didn’t feel right fighting with a sword reforged from Ned Stark’s sword? 🤔 I agree it’s a stupid move for someone with only one hand. He does need all the help he can get..

Olenna got the poison off of the necklace Sansa was wearing at the wedding - the necklace that Littlefinger paid Sir Dantos to give to her. During the wedding there is a scene where Lady Olenna goes up to Sansa & says something about how pretty she is but the ‘wind has been at her’ & Olenna straightens Sansa’s hair. But, just before she touches Sansa’s hair you can see Olenna briefly adjust the necklace, it’s a very subtle gesture.

Relax guys, I mean on the show at least Tommen is like 10 in the beginning, and on this season he is more like ~13-14-ish. Basically entering tough teenage years here. And he is to be the king after all. In these times kings tend to rule from very young, and a bride is given to them sooner rather than later. In this regard he was a bit lucky to get Margaery and not some other truly vile woman. At least she is treating him well. Let's be honest that's way better than most marriages ever hope for, in Westeros.

I get it fellas -- it's cringe. I wont go all historical on a fantasy show based on fantasy books... However, age differences and inter-marriage was kinda sort of common in middle ages and other dynastic ruling periods where powers married off by arrangement & to forge alliances. Not saying it's cool. Not saying it's relatable now. It is all fake but adds a "real" other-world feel to it that recalls history in our actual past--creepy though it is. It also shows the lengths powers will go with their own interests in mind. Lastly -- not justifying it, but I've been to present day societies and cultures where arranged relations with disturbing age differences still occur.

Olenna did what any other character wanted to do. Kill the psychopath Joffrey. Olenna is a ruthless person, but she had a motive to do it. She knew sooner or later Joffrey could turn his cruelity to Margaery. Plus if Loras found it, he could try to do something. We already saw how impulsive he is. So if he did somethinga against Joffrey, the Tyrells would be in a open war with Lannisters. Also Joffrey was very unpredictable and maybe Margaery manipulations could not work any longer. So Olenna did murder him, to avoid such problems. Sadly Cersei was so blind, that she didnt understood she point a wrong person. Giving Olenna a free pass.... This scene also shows that Margaery is ambitious but she is not ruthless as her grandmother.. Olenna never underestimated her opponents. Even with Cersei! Thats why she survive so long in the political game. -Tommen is friendly and may seem more easy to manipulate. Margaery tries to seduce him, but not in sexual way. she adapt her manipulation to please the boy (sure in our eyes, its so wrong. she is older. But lets not forget this show have inspiration in the medieval times. So it was common for young boys or girls marry to older people. In our world, there was queens that were married at the age of 5 or 8 to older kings or vice versa. So it was the mentality back then. Anyway i do enjoy the kiss in the forehead. It also shows that Margaery knows how to adapt her skills to each target. -Cersei is angry because Jaime was defending Tyrion. In her eyes, Tyrion is the murder, and Jaime doesnt believe her. instead he choose to defend Tyrion. Thats why she was angry at him. In some ways, she felt betrayed!

This is why I hate the rape scene so much. If they wanted to show that Jaime is still a morally dark or evil character, that would be one thing. To pretend like it never even happened is just so jarring.

The director of the episode said he messed up with how he shot that scene, it wasn't meant to be a depiction of rape, so yeah it was very jarring on Jaime's character development

Yes Roose Bolton sent Locke to the wall to sniff out Bran, the heir to Winterfell and the last threat to bolton rule in the north. They said it in episode 2. He was sent to the wall because they thought Jon would know Bran's whereabouts. Also, Baelish has been grooming Sansa, much more relentlessly since like Season 1. She's also a child and their age difference is much more than the age difference between Tommen and Margaery. We cannot be selectively abhorred.

Were grossed out equally if not more by the baelish/sansa thing as to the margery/tommen thing

Jaime didn’t acutely rape Cersei that scene was just portly directed so it looked that way (the actors confirmed it)

SPOILERS-FREE COMMENT: Just to set things straight because you being upset about Jaime is understandable: the scene with Cersei strikes badly mainly because of bad directing. Both in the books and in the original series script the scene in Joffrey's funeral was meant to be CONSENSUAL. Cersei is just hesitant about them doing it because the Great Sept was a public space and they could be spotted, but after a few moments she not only actively engages but also gets on Jaime quite a bit, if you know what I mean. Both Nikolaj and Lena acted the scene that way, but sadly with the editing cuts the final scene looked like a r*** . The director of that episode, Alex Graves, was sacked after the incident. The original meaning of the -again CONSENSUAL, still twisted- scene is important because it portrays the Lannister twin's mechanism to cope with their strong emotions and their damaged lives. Hope this info helps you come to terms with Jaime's arc so far!

Sadists are bad for business. No one liked Joffrey. IDC who did it, it was an act of public service 👌🏽

10:50 WHY? They need alliances. To get alliances you must bind them by marriage and then blood. If you do not, then why would I trust you?

Tommen/Margaery was gross to the actors too. In that night visit scene, they originally wrote for things to be saucier. But, Natalie Dormer who plays Margaery was like YUCK GROSS I DON'T WANNA DO THAT. So, they settled on a forehead kiss. Still soooooo damn creepy lol
