My plant started to get yellow leaves and even the main stem looks like it's shrivelling. I noticed i did start watering it a little more, but from yhe base... I would put water in the base and allow it to absorb up into the soil. I think i need to adjust: 1) how packed in the roots are- loosen up the soil to allow drainage / movement 2) reduce watering again according to soil moisture rather than time of the week Thank you for this video!!

Hi thanks for the very informative video. I bought my tineke a month ago and when I took it home I noticed some white mold on the top of the soil.. I decided to inspect the soil and roots and realised the soil was too compact with hardly any perlite. I've then substitute the soil (not all of it to not damage the roots too much) and added a bit of bark too. Since then the plant looks good but loses one bottom leaf at a time (one every week😫) it starts with a bit of yellowing.. sometime brow spots on the edges..south facing position it gets a bit of direct sun but it's late autumn sun so it should be right? Please help

I would start with looking at your watering. Especially since it sounds like the soil wasn't draining well when you first bought it. I would recommend getting a soil moisture meter and making sure it's in the dry region before you water it again. Do this for a few weeks and see if it solves your problem! 😊

Hi, Great information! Question, I got my first plant and it’s one of this and the stem part where the leaves grow from is drying.
@thegirlwithashovel
@thegirlwithashovel 25 дней назад
Is this drying from not enough water in the soil? Or are the roots damaged (rotted from overwatering) so it can't take up any water? That's what you've got to figure out first. 👍

@thegirlwithashovel
@thegirlwithashovel Год назад
Could be lack of fertilizer. Could be temperature. There are a number of reasons our plants slow down their growth, especially in the winter. Make sure it has plenty of water (but not too much), and maybe try placing it somewhere a bit warmer for a few weeks to see if that helps. 😊

A little after I brought my bubber plant home it got extremely droopy leaves in the entire tree, and many leaves falling off with yellow middle sections and brown cores so I am still confused if it's overwatering or underwatering because these are signs of both

What should I do with my healthy rubber tree that already lost a lot of leaves after I moved? It’s mostly stem. 😅
@thegirlwithashovel
@thegirlwithashovel Год назад
Slow way down on watering. Then give it the best spot in your house (no direct hot sunlight), and sit tight. It'll either have enough energy to grow new leaves, or it won't. But most of the time it'll surprise you in a good way! Good luck!

I got a baby one online, when it arrived it was crammed into a small nursery pot so I moved it to a larger one. It originally had 5 leaves. One at the bottom went black from the base up and came off, another fell off as I was watering, so I have that in perlite. The very top leaf is quite limp and soft, whilst the bottom leaf is drooping more. I checked the soil and it's not too wet, the roots are quite long, but not rootbound. I put it under a grow light, thinking maybe it wasn't getting enough light and that caused further wilting to the top leaf. Any suggestions? I have a moisture meter and the soil was dry before I watered it.
@thegirlwithashovel
@thegirlwithashovel Год назад
Black can sometimes mean frost damage. Was there a chance it got too cold during shipment? My next thought is to pot it back down. Pots that are too large can cause watering issues as well. I hope this helps give you some direction

My Ficus droopy leaves happened when I repotted it. I think the roots are damaged. It didn't have much roots anyway. What can I do.?? I am sure the reason isn't over or underwatering
@thegirlwithashovel
@thegirlwithashovel Год назад
When it doesn't have many roots, you need to keep it in a smaller pot. Then make sure not to overwater. If you suspect root damage, you can use some hydrogen peroxide in your water to keep it sterilized while you are waiting for the roots to seal from any cuts in them. 😊

my rubber tree has droopy and curly leaves tho the leaves at the very top are standing well. the soil is still hydrated tho. i suspect it is due to lack of sunlight cuz it's in a dark area in my living room. so i resorted to putting it under our shady part of the coconut tree..hopefully i'm doing the right thing. my rubber tree is pretty tall and no windows are suitable for it's size so the shady part outside is my only option... hopefully im doing the right thing? PLEASE SEND HELP. Newbie in planting here...
@thegirlwithashovel
@thegirlwithashovel 20 часов назад
The fact that your rubber tree is tall I'm assuming it is leggy? If so then it's definitely a light issue and I would recommend fixing the light issue before looking into the watering because that will change once you're light changes. Outside is fine just be careful with it getting too hot with all the heat waves we've been getting here in the US at least! Haha! Good luck 👍

I brought a 20 year (?) old big (18" diameter) Ficus Elastica Abidjan into my home and I've consistently lost leaves since I moved it. I watered after about having it here for a month but I think it was too soon as I continue to lose several leaves a week. I do have lots of new growth. I added a grow light in a can light above the tree as it's next to a West facing covered sliding glass door. I'm starting to get scared it's not going to recover.
@thegirlwithashovel
@thegirlwithashovel 11 месяцев назад
I would get a water meter to check the moisture levels between watering. Other than this there isn't much else you can do. The new growth is a great sign, but ficus plants are notorious for dropping leaves when they are moved, especially one that's been in a set location for many years. Just make sure you're still seeing new growth!

Don't add compost to your indoor plants. Have the leaves come back? If it's just a stem then your plant is probably already gone. 😢

I aslo re potted it into a terricata pot And maybe the plants in shock or something but alot of the big leaves are dropping and falling off. I also have it on my coffee tabel in a high traffic area. It gets plenty of sun. I dont have drainage other then some holes at the bottom and a saucer But i love my plants and it breaks my hesrt and i get mad when they aren't at there best. I know this video is old but if somone can answer what they think my plant needs pleaee do
@thegirlwithashovel
@thegirlwithashovel 20 часов назад
If there's new growth but the older leaves are falling off then this is usually the plant getting leaves that match the place you moved it to. If this isn't the case then it's most likely overwatering or underwater so I would check your soil.

Hi, I certainly need help with my rubber plant. I got my rubber plant in September and it looked glorious standing at 1.6m tall and having leaves all the way. A few weeks ago the bottom 2 leaves became yellow and fell off. Then I noticed that 90% of the leaves became droopy and softer in comparison to when I got it. Some of the leaves started curling back as well. So far I have lost almost half of the leaves it had when I got the plant. I am so stressed out and I feel like I’ve tried everything. I clean the plant regularly, tried moving it away from the window, tried watering less, tried giving more water, looked for root rot there wasn’t any, have been looking for pests - didn’t find any, tried changing the top later of soil in case there was some pest and nothing seems to help. Currently losing 1 leaf ever week. I do not know what else I can do, someone please help

The leaves are very soft and droopy. Is it also due to underwatering?
@thegirlwithashovel
@thegirlwithashovel 8 месяцев назад
Soft and droopy is overwatering. Crinkly and droopy is underwatering. If you don't water it much but it's still showing signs of too much water, then it's either in too big of a pot, or your pot or soil doesn't have enough drainage. Hope this helps. 😊

Red leaves can be normal as most start out with a reddish tint, especially if you have a Ruby variety. However if it's a sick looking red, then it can be a nutrient deficiency. 😊

@@lorrie9462 yes. Get some dry soil around the roots. Or if you don't have extra soil on hand, pull it out of the pot and place the rootball on some paper towels to start soaking up the excess moisture and leave it until it dries out.
