Magic describing Bird calling him, is priceless. Men magic said you find out who your real friends or when something like this happens. A lot of pain tucked away. Marcus beautiful wife Cookie is still with him at his side to this day.

This documentary always brings me to tears every time, & I end up crying, like a little baby........I have so much respect for both Magic & Larry, and IMO, these 2 will always be the GOATS in my heart, & the 2 men, that saved the NBA! 💖💖💖

Florida didn't have a bball team when this rivalry started, and we found ourselves being both Celtics and Lakers fans... Or, rather, we all became both Magic and Bird fans! You can't separate the two, as they are two sides of the same coin. We had good basketball in the 60s and 70s, but the 80s brought a whole new level of basketball and I am so grateful to have watched it live!

If people could learn to be like these 2 men, the world would be a much better place. They just accept each other and appreciate the other for who they are, good and bad. It's going to be a very sad day when they are gone. So glad I was able to see them play back in the day.

As a 52 year-old hoosier. I would like express how important this rivalry was to me. I recall vividly how I never heard a word at church because I needed to get home and watch the Lakers vs Celtics at 1 pm on CBS. I can not count how many spectacular plays I saw in those days. Inenumerous. After church I would carry a shovel and basketball to the court to practice. I shovled that snow for 30 minutes so I could practice in the cold with freezing nose hairs. I was in 4th grade. In 5th grade, I tried out for intramural basketball. I was the last person picked out of 50 kids. We lost every game during the regular season, but every team, regardless of record was welcomed into the playoffs. Our coach told us that if we win the championship, he would take use to Show-Biz (aka Chucky-Cheese). I started that realize that Bobby was our guy and "THE MAN." He also began to trust me. I wasn't fast and couldn't jump like him but I became his Kevin McHale. We then progressed through the first two rounds with ease, we built confidence. We hadn't won a game all season but now we have momentum. We reached the finals. It was a defensive game. Both teams struggled to score. With 3 seconds left, we were down by a blistering scoring pace of 11 to 12 points. LOL Now, with the game was on the line, Bobby has the ball for obvious reasons. The defense focused on Bobby and he passed me the ball with 3 seconds left. I got fouled. Down 2 points, I'm a child at the line on a 10 ft goal 15 ft away shaking in my knees. Parents and teachers were watching. It felt the entire world was there. The first shot landed softly on the front of the rim. It bounced back in off the backboard. The second shot was a little short and right. It hit the backboard and the rim again. It finally went in in dramatic fashion. The crowd roared. Neither shot was perfect but the practice on put in made certain that it had proper spin and trajectory. This is my favorite memory and... I want to thank both Larry Bird and Magic Johnson for having inspired me. They taught me that effort is the key and that if you work hard, you can have the best memories too. INDIANA

Has there ever been a tougher, more honest or cooler basketball player than Larry Bird? Bird was just built different! Watched the whole Bird Magic rivalry when I was a young man, it made me a basketball fan.

I’ve watched this so many times, but I never enjoy it as much as watching it with someone who hasn’t seen it and cares about the subjects. That was fun. Thanks.

The 80’s were a great time to be a celtics fan or just a NBA fan. The game got life from Bird and Magic over night. But the life was drained out way too early in the 90’s when they both retired. What they did and how they did it paved the way for every other player since then.

Isnt it really telling that Magic could talk about his diagnosis quite matter of factly. But when talking about Larry checking in with him he gets emotional as all hell? Bloody love me some deep male friendships

Man, that was some good stuff!!! Think of all the things that had to occur for this story to unfold the way it did. If Larry had n't finished school when he did .if Magic didn't leave school when he did. if Larry wasn't drafted by the Celtics if Magic wasn't drafted by the Lakers. If Indiana State had lost a game in the tournament and they hadn't met in the finals, I mean just think of everything that occurred for these two stars to align. It will go down in history as the greatest rivalry in all of sports in any sport

Re Larry's back/his dad's foot...I get what you're saying about the mentality, however if you get a problem fixed quickly it doesnt get worse and worse and then you're fucked forever. Nothing big or malh about pushing through the pain/ignoing a problem.
