Great reaction. Larry and Magic saved the league. For me, they are both top 3 players all time; in their prime anyway. Larry and Magic in their prime are both absolute legends and beasts. Keep in mind they kept each other from looking better because they were both so great. Jordan is my #1 all time but he never had a rival like Bird and Magic were to each other. They are all GOATS.

Larry could do it all: drive for the hoop, finish left n right, shoot with a jab or a jump fade-away, or dime it while faking a drive.. Simply unstoppable, especially with his level of motivation and dedication..

Great reaction. In that 1991 playoff elimination game against the Pacers, the Celtics blew a lead after Larry left the game in the second quarter and were still behind when he returned with a fractured right cheek and a possible concussion in the third quarter. That look on his face as he's waiting on the sideline said, "Not today and not in my building." He returned midway through the third quarter and took over the game, scoring 17 points while grabbing 7 rebounds and dishing out 4 assists in the second half as the Celtics won the series. He finished with 32 points, 9 rebounds and 7 assists in just 33 minutes. His performance after suffering such a serious injury was so amazing that the Pacers players went into the Celtics locker room after the game to congratulate him. Talk about respect. One of the best things about it was that it added another page to The Book of Bird, and that book has a lot of pages.

Bird is my favorite player. His heart and his trash talk are the best. Love Magic too. If you love bb watching the Celtics and Lakers is an excellent use of your time. Everybody thinks their favorite players are the best and since I'm 65 I think there's nothing like the '80s. But if you go through and look at the hall of fame almost half the Hall of Fame players come from that era.
@joeyjohnson4826
@joeyjohnson4826 Год назад
I mean since you're 65 years old you know of the professional sports the NBA's history is very shallow. if it wasn't for Larry Bird the NBA wasn't even watch live when he came into the league. he made it popular. compared to football and Major League baseball their history is a couple of pages. people don't seem to realize this. like I said when Larry came into the league the games were pre-recorded nobody cared 🤷‍♂️ he is the only reason the NBA is what it is today magic comes also but without Larry Bird the NBA still takes back seat
@marykuettner752
@marykuettner752 Год назад
@@joeyjohnson4826 Not sure what you think you are talking about here but yes I know that college basketball was much more popular than pro in the 70's. Bird being drafted in his junior year by the Celts is the reason that a lot of Northeastern radio stations started carrying Indiana St. games. The hype about him when they were going 33-0 is the reason that the Michigan St. Indiana St. television audience was so big. When Bird and Magic were rematched in 84 it was the first time the finals were broadcast in primetime.
@joeyjohnson4826

MJ single-handedly took Larry and his band of Hall of Famers and All Stars (McHale, Parrish, Johnson, Ainge) to the wire. To say he never got the better of the Legend is silly. I mean no offense to you or Larry Legend - and Michael was/is no saint - but I'm tired of anyone putting other basketball players in the same category as Mike. MJ's in a category with Ali, Ruth, Bonds and Gretzky: Athletes who broke their sport.

Don't forget, Larry played the last few years of his career in a ridiculous amount of back pain. It ended his career early. He would often be seen lying on the floor by the bench. Then he would go out and play as if he had no pain! Larry Legend.
@Max-ui7yf
@Max-ui7yf Год назад
There's also the fact that he really messed up the index finger on his shooting hand before ever playing a single game in the NBA, which apparently caused him to never have the same feel for the ball again. Along with the back issue that you mentioned, and other injuries as well, he played through things that would keep a lot of others from even stepping foot on a basketball court and he still played better than most could. Larry Legend indeed, and easily one of my all time favorites. Then again I may be biased since we're both from southern Indiana lol.

In the Time Out game, he tied it to send it to OT. Then, down 3 in OT, he made the shot that didn't count .Then he came right back and made the shot that DID count to send it to 2OT and then he made the Game Winner in 2OT...

That game he banged his head was with about 5 minutes left in the first half of a huge game 5 elimination game for both teams. He broke his cheekbone and had double vision. The team doctor wouldn't let him back out there but the team was getting run out . Bird got a couple guys to distract the doc long enough to get out there. His team was barely hanging on to a 73-71 lead in the 3rd. When Bird came in the game it took him a minute to figure out his shot with the double vision but once he got it he went on a rampage. Putting up a 32/9/7 stat line leading the Celtics from being down 83-80 to 112-96. The Pacers would climb back to within 1 point in the final seconds but it wasn't enough. It was one of the greatest games in one of the greatest series in NBA history. The injury was so bad and his performance was so great the entire

Ive never been into basketball but i do know the big names. Bird has been a name since i was young so i figured id check him out just to see what the legend was all about. Just from watching this mixtape i can tell the guy was a top level all around player. His vision of what was going on at all times on the court seems to have been on god level. Enjoyed the reaction and I think ive become a little bit of a basket ball fan late in life!

Bird was the smartest most clutch player I have ever seen. I was lucky enough to see bird play his whole career. Bird was special, he would do something remarkable in every game he played. Players always said he was slow and that he could jump. But the most important ability they can't measure in a player is their Heart. Bird had more heart and determination than anybody that has ever played. Jordan, everybody's goat. Was 0 for 6 vs. Bird in the playoffs. Both sweeps. Jordan beat everybody. Except Bird. Bird is my Goat.

Its too bad that Larry's back injuries made him retire. From 1991 on, he played in excruciating pain. He had broken his cheek bone at a game and was brought to the doctors in the locker room. He was told to not try to finish the game but you will see a clip of him returning anyway. Nowadays if a basket ball player scuffs his knee, he is out for a few games lol
