The reason I get emotional watching Magic honor Bird at his retirement is this… When Magic was diagnosed with HIV, a lot of his friends abandoned him. Isiah Thomas even turned his back on Magic. Bird cried and didn’t want to play that night, he was sick. Bird never left Magic’s side. Larry said he’s only ever been that sick/upset… when his dad committed suicide and when he thought Magic was going to die from AIDS. So Magic said, he understood who his real friends were after he was diagnosed with HIV and Larry was his best friend.

As a "Bad Boy" Era Piston fan, Bird was EVIL INCARNATE. It took me years to stop hating him for long enough to appreciate him. Once I did, I realized WHY I hated him... he was just THAT DAMNED GOOD. Larry Legend is in my top 5, easily.

Same here! Big pistons fan. Hated Larry. But that was because he was the best. I knew Jordan or magic could take wins from us, but Larry was capable of basketball magic and it ALWAYS made me nervous. It's just like the video said. If the game was close, EVERYONE knew the ball was going to Larry and the more it mattered, the more sure I was that it would be nothing but net. I've never felt that with any other player. Now that he's been off the court for so long I can admit how crazy good he was. Magic had the better team but Larry elevated the Celtics to unreal levels.

I am a 59 years old Italian guy. I had the pleasure and displeasure of play against Larry Bird... I was a 16 years old under 18 national team in 1981, the italian team played 19 "friendly" games in the USA in summer '81... To make the story short, our team played stellar games in that summer, and on the last 3 games we had the 76, Celtic and Lakers.. that game against the Celtics... Bird wrecked me from the start to the finish, he made me go nuts! And as LA fan I was pumped up to upset the Celtics, that still hurt in this days... I hated him, but the respect I have for the man is immense, hell I had an easier game against Magic than him! Still an experience that I will never forget....

The final scene with Magic Johnson and Larry Bird is very important. Those two legitimately hated each other. In 1986, Converse released a Magic Johnson shoe, as the year before there was a Larry Bird shoe. A commercial for the shoe was filmed at the home of Larry Bird's mother. Was a bit strained at first, but slowly they started talking. Then during lunch break Magic was invited to the house. He had a chance to meet Larry Bird's mother, who treated him like family. Larry had met Earvin for the first time, saying later "Earvin is a good dude... I like Earvin a lot better than Magic." Very important, as if you look at the jersey he gave Larry it is signed "Earvin Johnson".

most players of that era say that Bird was harder to defend than Jordan. When Jordan had the ball he was almost unstoppable. But, once he dished the ball off, he was out of the play. When Bird had the ball, you never knew what he was going to do with the ball and that's why so many people bit on his fakes. Plus, even when he didn't have the ball, he was still in the play. Setting screens, boxing people out and non-stop moving.

I loved watching Bird. I think no one was comparable to anyone since (not Doncic or Joker). He was great and played a complete game. But, 1. to say "most players" felt he was harder to defend isn't true. There are a few (Cooper, Worthy, Dr. J etc), but not most. Also, it isn't true that Jordan was out of the play without the ball. He had great shooting and free throw percentage, but also posted great numbers for assists, rebounds and steals. While Bird was an underrated defender, Jordan was a lockdown defender. He is largely considered the best fundamental superstar of NBA history. Bobby Knight thought this, and is one of the best basketball minds ever. Neither of these things is to take anything away from Bird. But, even Bird would say that Jordan was on another level -- and Bird wasn't known to lack confidence.
@tonybarda5990
@tonybarda5990 10 месяцев назад
First, no one on this message board played against Jordan or Bird, so your last sentence is quite ridiculous. Let's get that out of the way. Second, I don't discount what Worthy thought. He is entitled to his feelings, but to say most in the NBA is not correct. For every Worthy, there are several Barkleys, Hakeems, Reggie Millers and Magics (yes, Magic said Jordan was not only the best basketball player ever, but the best athlete in professional sports ever) that feel Jordan was the best ever. This is based on youtube videos, as, though I watched the NBA religiously in the 80s and 90s, they didn't have these "who's better" debates in interviews back then so much. As for nightmares, there is video of almost everyone who defended Jordan saying the same. Guys like Dumars, Maxwell, Reggie Miller, many more. Last, READ what I wrote. Take the words in. Don't make presumptions or infer from what I wrote. I didn't bash Bird, and all those players op mentioned have their opinions. I didn't say they were wrong to have them. I only said the majority of players did not think Bird was harder to guard than Jordan and that Jordan was not "out of the play" when he didn't have the ball. Maybe don't just watch Bird hype videos to form your opinion. (again, I love Bird, and feel he is the best small forward all time based on a 13 year time frame --- it's hard to compare and evaluate vs what Lebron has done for a longer career --- that's a different debate)@@RalphKetchum

I agree…and I grew up a Lakers fan. I hated Larry Bird, but only because he was such a great player, and would seemingly make every big shot and meaningful play against the Showtime Lakers. Only after I was an adult, and Larry was retired, did I fully realize that I was privileged enough to watch the greatest 3 basketball savants that in my humble opinion ever lived…Larry, Magic and Jordan. There’s a lot of great players that have come along since then, but none of them can hold a candle to those 3 in my book. Larry in particular, because he was so incredibly fearless and clutch. As Pat Riley so famously stated, “If I had to choose one player to take a shot to save a game, it would be Michael Jordan. But if I had to choose a player to take a shot to save my life, it would be Larry Bird.” I think that pretty much says it all.

Saw him make plays and passes that I have never seen before, or since. Even in today's league. Remember, there are stories of guys that Bird had pissed right off who tried to hard foul him only to switch to his left when they tried to foul his right lol Kids today only see a slow white dude but Bird could do it all, score with either hand, make ridiculous passes, rebound better than most centers, shoot over people from anywhere on the court no matter how awkward you made it for him, like 8 different fakes and one of the best stepbacks in history. Bird was just phenomenal to watch. I can't describe the feeling of being a Celtics fan back then but one of the Boston newspaper writers probably put it best, the day that Bird announced his retirement. The first line in the guy's newspaper column was "It sure was a hell of a lift he gave this town, wasn't it?" Was it ever! BTW, the game where he was one steal short of a quadruple double after three quarters, then checked himself out of the game? One of the Boston reporters realized the situation, went over to Larry and said "Do you realize you only need one steal for a quadruple double? Go back out there and get it!' Bird replied "Get out of here, scoop (his nickname for reporters), I've already done enough damage." He just didn't care about chasing after stats. For him, the W was the only stat that mattered.

I saw Bird play and I am a Cavs fan and rooted for Lebron all these years and I can tell you that Larry is in a class by himself. One thing that wasn't mentioned in the video was that the Celtics were 29-53 the year before Bird joined them. In his 1st year they improved to 61-21 and went to the Eastern Conference finals. That's an improvement of 32 games his first year. No player in NBA history has caused such an improvement his first year. Again, great to see you open to learning the history of the game.

It just wasn't the same anymore. 1980s basketball was so much more physical than today's game. The rules were much different too. It was rare than players were thrown out of games. I grew up in Boston during the Bird era. I went to a few games and watched hundreds more on television and absorbed every player stat printed in the Boston Globe's sports section. For all that you see him do on the court and all that you hear his teammates and opponents say about his greatness, there is one metric that defines what he did for the NBA: Ticket Sales. No matter what city the Celtics were playing in, no matter the team they were playing - top 5 or bottom 5 - games sold out more often when Larry Legend and the Celtics were playing than with any other team in the league. When people say Larry Bird and Magic Johnson saved the NBA, that is not an overstatement. Perhaps the most awesome attestation of a player's greatness and ability in clutch situations came from NBA's Pat Riley, who himself has won 9 NBA championships as player, coach and executive: "If I had to choose a player to take a shot to save a game I'd choose Michael Jordan; If I had to choose a player to take a shot to save my life...I'd take Larry Bird." Nothing more need be said: GOAT.

I was a fan of Dr. J, Magic, and Jordan at the time, but looking back…Bird was the best. The magic vs bird debate is rough because Larry got injured and very clearly on the decline when he retired. Magic was tossed out of the league at the same time but without the debilitating injuries, magic was forced to leave the league at his absolute peak. When they allowed him to join in the all star game, he destroyed everyone. Both were removed from the game before their time in different ways. It makes it difficult to give Larry a fair shot because he was only in the NBA for 12 seasons, where LeBron has a couple decades under his belt. Good video.

Many people have said Bird's defense was not that good. So tell me how he lead the league 4 times in defensive win shares. If you added up the number of times Michael Jordan and Lebron James led the league in defensive win shares the answer is ZERO.

Larry Bird played only about 3/4 as long as he should have, and the last few seasons he played were seriously hampered by injury. Mostly his back, which he hurt when he was shoveling gravel at his mother's house because he didn't want to pay someone to do it. And after he retired he went on to become a coach of the year and an executive of the year. He's the only human with a RoTY, MVP, CoTY, and EoTY award.

I'm not even a Celtics fan. I'm from a completely different part of the country; but, I have concluded that the best way to learn about this period of basketball is to watch Larry Bird videos. They're so much fun. And Bird was such a threat, that everyone brought their A game when they were playing the Celtics. And they all seem to love to talk about it, so you see Jordan, Magic, Kareem, Isiah Thomas, Dr J, Hakeem, Dumars, Charles Barkley, Moses Malone, Karl Malone and on and on along the way. My parents moved our family to a town just outside Boston in 1977. My friends and I spent Junior High, High School and our first few college years watching LA, Boston and Houston go at it nearly every year. The 80s was an era of basketball nirvana and living outside Boston in the 80s was something I had never experienced before. You were spot-on when you imagined how dramatic it must have been to watch Larry Bird play game after game. It was unreal and as the documentary explained, it felt like it was a lot longer than 13 seasons. Though I was never a Bulls fan, I always loved watching Michael play and would watch Bulls games just to see Michael. But having grown-up during the Larry/Magic years, its hard to compare that to anything. Great video. Thanks.

The top 4 in my opinion, MJ, Bird, Magic, Kareem. These guys were unreal in the toughest time of basketball and each had their own unique style. It was an absolute pleasure to watch them growing up in real time. Basketball was a man's sport then, they played hard as hell and you knew every time you went in the paint, it was going to be brutal. If they played in this era of softness, no one would hold a candle to them. They all played like they loved the game and gave everything to it. Watching players now, most love the paycheck first and the game second.

I've been watching the NBA since the 70's. Bird was different. After watching the past 4 and half decades of bball and being able to go back thanks to youtube and rewatch a lot. Here is my top 5. 1. Bird (As you are learning, he was THE all round perfect player) 2. MJ 3. Magic 4. Kobe 5. Kareem. I know those are all "old guys" but the game was so different back then. You had to be physically and mentally tough to stand toe to toe w/ those guys I listed. Lebron I'm sorry he's not th all round player like my top 5 were. Not even close. Not saying he's not in my top 10, but certainly not close to my top 5. People look at Larry's stats and think nah this guy ain't the goat. People need to watch how he played the game. He could have had 40-60-80 points every game but instead he chose to be the team player and get the ball to his teammates. He made Parrish and Mchales careers. And he played his entire career hurt, he always had injuries. There's a video on YT of Birds injuries, watch that and you'll have a completely different view of why Bird is considered a GOAT and why there is only one BBall player referred to as "Legend".

As a young boy in my early teens I watched the Celtics draft Larry Bird. In the whole city was buzzing. All with the hopes of bringing back another great Celtic so we can start winning championships again! But nobody thought this dude would do what he did. And I'm a superfan I don't miss a game. And it's impossible to show the number of times he has won a game for the Celtics. we all see the the biggest games like playoff games, but it's impossible to show the amount of times he won games for the Celtics. No one showing all the regular season games where he was doing the same thing he was in the biggest games. My point being every game was a championship game to have nots how he played. Didn't take a regular-season night off because theywere playing some scrubs nah! He had a killer instinct he wanted to win every even in the preseason! To me he is the 🐐. Because I still have never seen a more well-rounded all-around basketball the larry Bird. And I still watch basketball every day still. But I'm not just a Celtics fan im a nba fan. So if the Celtics aren't playing I'm watching other games every night. So I've seen all of them come and go over the years. And I still haven't seen an all-around better player than Larry.

Please keep in mind his injury plagued career and how he played through the pain when making your considerations for the GOAT. What this mini-docuvideo failed to mention were his numerous injuries and how he played through constant pain. 1) Bad Lower Back 2) Heel Spurs Both Feet, Both Feet Requiring Surgeries 3) Ruptured Achilles Tendons Both Legs, Both Legs Requiring Surgeries 4) Played Several Games With A Fractured Right Cheekbone 5) Played Many Games After Spending Nights Before Games In Hospitals In Traction He didn't have to play many of these games due to his legitimate injuries. However, his competitive spirit and his insatiable will to win would not allow him to miss a game if at all possible. It was Bird demanding that he spend the nights before games in traction so that he could start. His hustle fighting and diving for loose or stolen balls took their toll of 13 seasons. Bird played EVERY game like it was his last. Here's a category that's not on any spec sheet - "Hustle." He simply wore his body out to the point of his injuries forcing him to retire. Can you name any players directly after Bird's time up until today's NBA that would consistently play injured, play in pain and perform under GOAT qualifying standards? That was the difference between The Legend and everybody else then and now. Le😎 San Francisco, Califusa

One of the things that many forget and use to detract from Bird's ability as a shooter is that the 3-point line began to be used in his rookie year. That 50/40/90 has much more merit if you know this detail. Also at a time when a harder game was allowed. He is not like any current player who since his formation is practicing 3-point shots and does not suffer such an aggressive defense that allowed fouls that will now be penalized with a suspension for the offender. You just have to see images of that time that I had the great luck to live

There are so many crazy stats and accomplishments, but one thing that goes unmentioned (which some are starting to talk more about) is his actual height. He never wanted to be listed above 6’9 as he didn’t want to be thought of as a power forward. However, Larry Legend is easily 6’10 / 6’11! "There are 3 kinds of lies: Lies, damned lies, and statistics" - Mark Twain This is the one comment that I always hate (and I am a fan of Larry Legend). I think even Bird would smack you around for saying something so silly. Those two "sweeps" were both best of 5 first round sweeps, 86 and 87. Sweep 1 in 1986, this was the year MJ was out almost the whole year with a broken foot. The Celtics were the first seed in the east and had a record of 67-15, by far the best in the league and also had the best defensive team. The Bulls were the 8th Seed and barely even made it in coming back on an injured ankle playing limited minutes barely edging out the cavs with a 30-52 record, by far the worst in the whole playoffs. No one expected the Bulls to even be competitive in a single game, but MJ set a record in that series that still hasn't been broken in almost 40 years leading Larry to say "that was God disguised as Michael Jordan". Some players have high scoring games against trash teams when they're stat chasing, but MJ set that record against a stacked, healthy Celtics team. So yeah the Bulls got swept in 3 games -- they were EXPECTED to get swept by a team that had over DOUBLE their win record. The fact that MJ took that one game down to the end with the stats and records he made had them in shock. In 1987 it was a *little* closer, but that's very tongue in cheek to say that in a way because when it came to the east, east was beast. Again, the Boston Celtics were the first seed with 59-23. And again, the Bulls were 8th seed with 42-40. MJ had good stats, but they weren't as record shattering as the year before, but took them down to the end of one of the games. But again they were expected to get swept, and they did. The Celtics won, but it wasn't like... two even teams or even close teams that were playing those two years. And taking stuff outta context is silly. That's like saying "Oh Isiah is better than bird because the Pistons swept the Celtics in 1989!" and then leaving out the fact that Bird had foot surgery LOL. Context does actually mean something. But hey MJ did sweep Larry in 1984 when he was on the USA olympic team vs. the NBA all stars -- Team USA won all 8 games vs. the NBA all stars LOL even we wanna get real catty about it. But as we say lies, damned lies, statistics. I mean although they weren't supposed to win, and MJ did amazing and it pissed the NBA off... we gotta keep in mind that the team USA was literally the best pre-professional era team probably ever assembled, and the all stars probably at first didn't take it too seriously until they got their butts humiliated in the first games. Then they did try... but still lost badly. So on a stacked team vs. a stacked team MJ did win vs. Larry one time. But there's an excuse you can give if you can come up with it. This is why context matters. And I'll always argue that both for this and the goofy ass "sweeps" y'all always bring up. Unfortunately for all the fans of basketball we literally never got to see them face off ever again in the playoffs due to how they were seeded after that, especially when things went to 7 games. But the Celtics went to the ECF until Larry's feet got hurt, and then the Bulls went to the ECF and even won the chip twice before Larry retired. So it's not as though The Bulls never could have competed with them -- the Celtics just couldn't beat the teams that the Bulls ended up beating in the ECF. It's unfortunate that they never got to face off in the playoffs, though, when MJ had a team and when Larry was in peak condition and not hurt. It would have been the best show on the planet. It would have been better basketball than watching Detroit sucker punch people until the NBA finally had it with them. I personally would've preferred seeing the Bulls v. Celtics, but there never really got to be a true rivalry between them since Larry's final playing years just weren't the same once he had surgery, and even though MJ had MVP, DPOY and all that in 88, the Bulls still just didn't have a built roster. Scottie played about as well as Giannis his first year in the league. Not that impressive -- but hopeful. And the Celtics remained solid and Larry was still a really good player with that continued fire and heart, but players often just aren't the same after a surgery like that. Anyway -- that's me keepin' it 100.

Having watched Russell, Chamberlain, Bird, Jordan, and basically everyone since I started following in 1965, something about Bird was different. He willed it. I can understand the argument for Bird being the GOAT. Wouldn't say it myself, but hes top 3. Dude was scary. Everyone was scared of that guy, every fan, every player. The only other players I've ever been scared of facing as a lifelong Spurs fan since their inception in the ABA is Jordan and Kobe, and I suppose Unseld. Lebron, not one bit actually, he lacks something that makes others scared. Request, react to something on my favorite player of all time, George Gervin. Oft overlooked but the Iceman had a flair about him and an extremely unique style. Never seen anything like him before or since. Dr. J is probably the closest but they are still quite different play styles. Editing to mention at 12:26. They're disrespecting my man DJ running point for Boston. He was a revolutionary PG who ushered in a new more contemporary style of play, finals MVP for the Sonics sole championship, and one of my favorite PGs of all time. Bird is my #2 behind MJ and I say that with a bit of a grimace because Larry was by far the most clutch player ever and that counts a lot for me. He didn't just hit the biggest shots and make the biggest plays, he told the other team about it beforehand! It was as if he didn't feel like he had enough pressure on himself, he had to manufacture some more by predicting how he was going to win the game. He knew full well that he could do it and when he did, it mentally and spiritually broke the players and coaches he competed against every year. MY is the only player I could put in front of him and even then, it's only just.

I have Bird #1 and Jordan at #2 sinply because Jordan couldn't beat Bird. He put up some amazing numbers in the regular season and playoffs against Bird, but he went 0-6 in the post-season and has a losing record against Bird in the regular season. Bird is the only GOAT candidate that Jordan played against that regularly got the better of him. Not to mention his post-playing career endeavors. The only MVP, Coach of the year AND Executive of the year. The man is built different. Nobody is better at basketball than Bird mentally or physically. Let's put it this way: if there was a fantasy draft of ALL players ever in their prime to form an All-star team, I'm picking Bird over everyone. Even on an off night he had the overwhelming tendency to find ways to win, to will his team to victory. Jordan scored 63 on the Celtics and 100+ in 2 games in the playoffs against Bird. Jordan still lost those games and that was a Bird that was playing through those injuries (back, foot surgery, etc.) so that should tell you something. Bird is just different.

My dad is a lifelong Lakers fan and he used to shake his head and tell me how he hated Larry Bird for simply being too good back in the day. He could control the whole game without scoring and like others said, when he had the ball, defenders didn't know what he'd do or how he'd do it because he could do everything at an elite level with some of the smartest chess-like plays. When Jordan had the ball, you knew he was going to try to score it, but Larry could shoot, post up, pass, or otherwise set up plays any which way to get the job done. He was a monster and I feel like he's finding a new popularity because he doesn't look like a baller but he fought with no hesitation and talked the most shit on the court.

You have to remember, this is a "Making the Case" video, and this guy did a few of these for different players. Not just the founder of the 50/40/90 club, but a 3-time member. Some people don't give him enough credit for the 3-pointers, either because he didn't shoot them that often. What they don't think about is, the 3-pointer didn't exist until Bird's rookie year and it was initially used as a tactical shot - a dagger to demoralize, not to pump up scores. Yet Larry won the first 3 ever 3-point contests in a row, the only 3 he competed in. I heard another player (I *think* it was either Kareem or Worthy) comment that the reason he preferred guarding MJ over Larry was that MJ would slow down when he didn't have the ball, but Larry was just as dangerous if not worse. He was always moving to a better position, always trying to make plays or improve his teammates options. Just non-stop, and he wore his opponents out.

He was rated as #7 of the top 75 of all time by the NBA a couple of yrs ago. I think that's about right even though I feel he was one of the best all around players of all-time. He could do it all, scoring, rebounding, passing, steals, blocks, hustle and playing hurt.

Yup. It depends on what the person doing the ranking values in a player. There are no "stats" for some very valuable attributes.

As a fellow Hoosier Larry is and always will be on my short list of GOAT's. The Pat Riley quote always makes me laugh. If I had 1 person to take a last second shot to win a game its MJ, but if I have to pick 1 person to make a shot to save my life its Larry Bird. Something along those lines anyway. There's a saying in the Hoosier state. In 49 states its just basketball, but this is Indiana. We live eat sleep Ball here in Indy.

My favorite quote from a star about Bird is by Rodman: "Jordan makes you look slow. Bird makes you look stupid."

24:00 "I feel like I don't know basketball"... I'm that way too. I'm 60 and I don't know much about the era before Bird and I don't know much about the last 20 years. I graduated from Indiana State behind bird in 1985. I watched the NBA and the Celtics BECAUSE of Bird. We all have our blind spots.

Great Video Man! ...as I've gotten older and learned more about Bird its been fun an amazing to see how great he was. An even more "hidden" great player is John Stockton. I always rooted against those teams, disliked Stockton and Malone, but as I watched Stockton over the years, and learned more years later, he was one of the toughest, smartest, best point guards ever in the NBA. There are a couple fun videos of NBA Greats of that town giving Stockton maximum respect. Fun to see. Enjoyed your commentary, it's obvious you are having fun and are open minded. Best of Luck.

I like watching all the reactors doing the NBA greats; but the one thing you all miss is the fact that all these greats played all there careers with the team that drafted them. Todays players don’t do that if they can’t win they move to create super teams todays players are nowhere near the players of old were

Larry Bird is the greatest basketball player I’ve ever seen, and I saw Jordan drop 63 in the Garden. Bird was an amazing shooter, rebounder, passer, clutch player, and most importantly LEADER! He did something amazing every night! He didn’t have to score a point to win. He played a game left-handed because he was bored. Think about that. He’s my GOAT!

Lebron has said that Bird was a big influence on him. I can send a link, if you want. Bird and Johnson had a rivalry, but they also had respect for eachother. That speaks volumes. I grew up in the 80s. I watched him on the tv. The man was imcredible. His fadeaway was incredible.

Hey bro love your reaction! You understand what Larry's about and how amazing he was. And you make the game the big screen and make you small in the corner which not everyone does so big kudos for that! I think Larry Bird is the goat and Michael Jordan is number 2.

Also, you may be interested in the highlight video by Joseph Vincent about the 1992 Olympic Dream Team. Bird, Jordan, Magic, Stockton, Barkley, Malone, Pippen, all playing on the same team. It made basketball a worldwide phenomenon after that.

10:25 - Worthy has a pretty unique perspective on the question. He not only played against Jordan, but he also played with Jordan (at UNC). As Clayton mentions later in the video, Worthy won a national title as the best player on a team that had Michael Jordan on it. That almost certainly makes him the *_last_* person (other than Jordan himself) to be the best player on a team that had Michael Jordan on it. So it's interesting... maybe he knows full well that Bird was tougher to guard because of all of the things on- and off-ball that he could do to you, but then again, maybe he underestimates Jordan (who he first encountered as a talented-but-still-raw freshman at UNC) and overestimates Bird (who he first encountered as the best player in the NBA when Worthy entered the league). Who's to say? But one thing that's clear (meaning no disrespect to James Worthy, who was a great player himself) is that Jordan and Bird were both definitely better than Worthy. 😉

I am lucky enough to have lived through and watched all of this. From his time at Indiana State University, through his 13 years in the NBA, I was always a fan of who has become "Larry Legend". From the time he was in high school, throughout his NBA Career, he practiced his game and studied his opponents. He knew his opposition! He prepared like no other! Most athletes don't do that anymore, especially in the NBA. In fact, I can't even watch the NBA anymore, because it's too soft. The players these days can't play a complete game, take themselves out of the game and whine about shit that makes me laugh. Current players couldn't even dream about playing against players like Larry, Magic, Kareem, Chamberlain, etc. Those guys were phenomenal!!! They had desire, passion and a competitive spirit that doesn't exist anymore. Just my 2 cents; enjoyed your video.

Bird is absolutely the greatest of all time. No one knew the game like he did. No one had the same on-court awareness. His passing was extraordinary. He played with both hands. He toyed with people. He was the must clutch player ever to play. He was a true team player. He led his team to three championships. His passion level and warrior spirit were unmatched. And, here's the kicker, the number of other all-time great players who have said that Bird was the top player they ever played against is off the charts.

11 Championships for Bill Russell. Sam Jones has 10. 😄 Which is why Championships say nothing about individual players ...but it says a lot about the team...vs their opponents. Larry is #1 in my book. Too complete to ignore.

Larry Bird is the goat!!! When you look at his overall game, how can you not say goat. Distance game Bird is lethal. In the paint he succeeded. Passing was elite. Good rebounder. His hustle unquestioned. His willingness to scrap when necessary. His clutch play never failed, right up there with Jordan. Ultimately his back subtracted him from the GOAT conversation. He was never in an elite athletes shape, but continually dominated in his time.
