I'm not much on these "reaction" videos, but I do like a few who do them. This dude does a good production. He is articulate, knowledgeable and enthused, but doesn't over react. If a "reactor" puts the video of the player's highlights in a small corner of his video and he himself is full screen, I don't even watch it. I like the way this one was done.

All you have to know is what James Worthy said. Worthy has said more than once that he would rather guard Micheal Jordan instead of Larry Bird. Worthy said MJ made you look slow but Bird made you look stupid.

Personally, I prefer what James Worthy's coach, the legendary Pat Riley, said: "If I had to choose a player to take the shot and save the game, I'd take Michael Jordan. If I had to choose a player to take the shot to save my life? I'd take Larry Bird."
@Alice-xy3fi
@Alice-xy3fi 5 месяцев назад
Worthy also said that the reason he'd rather guard MJ than have to guard Bird is because with Bird, you have to try to get into his thinking, figure out his mind. Michael Cooper said Bird was the hardest of anyone he'd had to guard (and he was a famously good defender who'd guarded an amazing roster of greats, including Jordan) was that you couldn't take a break, but had to be on full alert 100% of the time, because with Jordan and the other greats, they were dangerous when they had the ball, but you could take a break when they didn't...while with Bird, he said, you could never rest, because he was even more dangerous when he didn't have the ball, because he was always doing something to help the team get the win, whether he had the ball or not.

Yep, even Michael Jordan would defend the honor of Larry Bird by the end of Bird's career. When the Dream Team was put together, a journalist interviewing Jordan said he saw Bird as a symbolic choice for the team. (referencing Bird's age and physical condition not being what it used to be.) This pissed off Jordan and he said to him: "I don't care how old or in pain Larry Bird is, you name me a forward in this league who's not already on the team who can rebound, throw the outlet pass to get a break going, shoot the three-pointer, play in the half-court and has the presence of Bird!"

I think my favorite Bird comment from a player was from one of the Indiana players when Bird was an executive with the team. He was talking about how Bird just calmly walked on the court during practice, shot 10 long threes in a row and walks off.
@1982jeepcj8
@1982jeepcj8 6 месяцев назад
Larry Bird was until recently, very underrated part of it is Larry knew how good he was and it was not good enough in his opinion, he was selfless in promoting his teammates and I only cared about the win. He never cared about stats or personal accolades. I rate Larry higher on my top 10 than MJ, simply because he used his team better than MJ to win. When you realize that Larry could take shots and make them but didn't so his teammates were involved and couple that with just how messed up he was physically. Bird is on another level. As for you, I appreciate that you acknowledged how much Larry Bird reaction videos shifted your view on him. You really have to watch a lot of Larry Bird videos to unravel why he was so good. People now don't believe it in one or even ten videos, there are still people who don't see why he is even in someone's top ten, much less in as the GOAT conversation. With Larry, you have to work for it.

As I suggested in another comment, watch a whole game and see everything Bird does. Then watch it again and just watch him passing. Just the passes... no look, behind the back, bounce passes through the legs, touch passes, the give and goes to another player... Unbelievable. Keep up the good work, brah.

I'm 17 and I don't like it when fans and analysts crap on older eras. I love watching older games on RU-vid, it's like a historical document to me. And then I go to the comment section and I see people taking a dump on the games. This attitude is preventing us from loving basketball as a whole. I don't see this attitude in other sports. I'm also an Arsenal fan and from what I can see they respect all their older legends.

A lot of players that Magic thought were is trusted friends, turned their back on him, such as the fear and misconception surrounding HIV/AIDS, Larry, didn't, they were still rivals, they still hated each other as bitter competitors. Even if they respected each other, Larry, the enemy, decided that Earvan, needs were more important than the war between Magic and Bird. Larry acknowledges that he likes Earvan, but hates Magic. When the chips were down, and lines had been crossed Larry stood with Magic when his whole world turned his back on him.

The thing they don't mention about the game in New Orleans vs. Atlanta with The Hawks bench laughing is, Bird sets The Celtics scoring record with 60! 9 days earlier McHale had set the record @ 56 besting Larry's 53 set in ' 83. When McHale came out with a few minutes left, Bird smiled and said that he should stay in and get 60, because someone is going to put up more than 56! Lol

I grew up on MJ and he was my favorite player and I had always considered him the GOAT until very recently. The more Larry Bird videos I watch, the more I think Bird was the GOAT and MJ is second. MJ was extremely athletic and that is a lot of what propelled him to his greatness. Bird, however, wasn't. Bird beat people with his knowledge of the game of Basketball. He outsmarted people and was able to predict what other players were going to do. Bird's knowledge of basketball is why he ended up as a Coach of the Year and as Executive of the Year for the Pacers. That, in itself, shows that he has a mind for the game of basketball possibly only rivaled by Pat Riley.

I grew up watching Larry Bird and he was the Best Ever seen that didn't have any remarkable talent but he DOMINATED the League. All of Larry Bird life he was told that he hasn't played anyone yet. But when he comes into the League and by the 4th game of his career he said he was disappointed in what he was being told. And wanted to challenge himself by telling the opposition what he's going to do and then he does it on the person. I never seen anything on the TV except for the Doctor J fight and Kareem and the X Man. I'm just amazed that he was doing it but it was never noticed by people who was watching the TV.

Fun facts to know about Bird....Jordan was 0-6 vs Bird in playoffs.....Boston won only 29 games year before Bird got there he turned them around his rookie year and they won 62 games (with no McHale or Parrish yet). Also avg over 10 rebs for career. He won the first THREE 3pt competitions (he only did those 3 so never lost). He made several all-defensive teams & was always in top 5 in steals. Quote from Pat Riley..."If I can pick any player to take the last shot of a game I'm taking Michael Jordan, if I need a player to take the last last to save my life I'm taking Larry Bird."

Great point you made about Bird's trash talk motivating the strong-minded players and still beating them. Prime example, if you want to talk about strong minded players being at the top of their motivation and still being trampled by Bird: in case you didn't already hear (or see) this, even Jordan, famously competitive and strong minded and, therefore getting his most motivated by Bird's kind of trash talk, didn't get motivated enough, evidently, because he was never able to beat Bird, who even swept him in the playoffs. Jus' sayin'... Also, MJ has said it was from listening to Bird's trash talk that he learned how to trash talk himself.

Great Reaction Video. I grew up 10 miles outside of Boston in the 70s and 80s. Bird made everyone around him better: Players, Coaches, Fans, Seat Attendants, Concessions Workers, Garden Crew Members. The level of energy in the old Boston Garden when the Celtics were playing was unlike anything I had ever experienced before or since. One of my favorite memories of that era wasn't even a Celtics victory but it showed how much teams respected each other and how great rivalries were. Game 7 of the 1982 Easter Conference Finals, in the Boston Garden. Philadelphia was ahead with few minutes to go in the game...ahead by too much for the Celtics to recover from. and, realizing the situation, as hard fought as the series was and as hated as the Sixers were to Boston fans, Boston fans in the Garden started chanting, " Beat LA! Beat LA! Beat LA!" It was just an incredible moment in sports. Lakers ended up winning 4 the Finals 4 games to 2.

I don’t remember the exact quote, so I’m paraphrasing here. Pat Riley said that “if the game was on the line, I’d want Jordan to take the shot. But if my LIFE was on the line, I want Bird to take that shot”. The opinions of his contemporaries matter. They also see todays game and still put Bird right there as one of the greatest. That’s an opinion that younger fans have a hard time wrapping their heads around. Thanks for presenting an honest opinion. ✌️

MJ said Bird taught him how to trash talk. And both Mj and Lebron have Bird in their top 3. As an all-around player I have Larry at #1. Of course, as a defender and points-producer Jordan is #1, but all around, it has to be Larry. That is why I have them as my CO-GOATS. I read somewhere that Bird had Bron's passing, KD's midrange shooting touch, Curry's long range and free throw accuracy, Jokers rebounding skills, Kobe and MJ's killer will, and more clutch than any player in history! It should say they have Birds.
