Dirk nowitzki & Nikola jokic & LeBron james each would've scored 50s &40s points average against Larry bird especially broken back Larry bird; dirk nowitzki; Nikola jokic; LeBron James& Luka doncic would've put 🐦 in a cage to live
When you play the GOAT for the first time as a rookie, don't expect any sympathy. That's Larry. He'll make you career a living hell every time you play him. And did that to everyone. MJ, Magic, Dominique, Dr. J, everyone. So don't feel so bad.
Curry can hang with Bird in over all shooting BUT Curry is two levels under Bird for clutch shooting I won’t even get into the physical part Curry couldn’t handle it
@redmcc what's your bank account info so I can send you currency ? I am proud to tell you that you've won the dumbest comment award ! Lol Larry bird was really good in the plumbers league 🤣 20" vertical runs the 40 in 7 seconds.
I don't care what anybody says in my personal opinion Larry Bird is and was the best basketball player of all time ever and still is nobody since he retired is even close to him or accomplished what he accomplished or could do what he did !!! Larry Bird is the best all around best basketball player of all time ever !!! Nobody ever did what he did !!!
Just a side note, I was a young child watching these games and you can hear Mike Gorman calling these games, almost 40 years later, he still sounds the same and this is his last year calling games, a true legend, like Bird
For real - I’m not even a huge basketball fan, but the man making these videos is such a great storyteller. I’ve grown to appreciate the game - especially in the 80s and 90s heyday - and for sure have developed a much bigger appreciation for Bird. Love this channel. Keep ‘em comin my man!
This channel s so underrated.. This man knows ball.. Young man understanding Birds greatness always earns my respect. People just don’t know. Bird was insane.. He’d destroy these dudes today. He’d mentally torture them too..
Bird is honestly underrated, back in the day everyone knew the greatness but alot of these dudes don't understand how he would destroy the leauge today
This is one of the absolute best channels on RU-vid. Every video I immediately watch it and am reliving my youth. I watched every nationally televised Larry Bird game because my dad made me watch them. They were all amazing.
I lived in Boston when this icon and king of the Basketball court lived and mastered the game. I am so glad I lived in Boston and watched on local TV the Celtics and Larry Bird do his fantastic work and put player after player that went up against him? Get schooled? And taught to no end not to mention his out standing ease in those three points shots . I wished so so so much that I would have had the honor to meet Larry Bird and got to shake his hand and maybe an autograph. In close I will say this as to my honesty. Before I moved to Boston in 1980? I never really watched NBA pro basketball? As a young guy back in the 70s and 80s I was more into pro football. I even liked the Patriots prior to moving to Boston. But in my honest and most humble accounts with my hand to God? It was one man who caught this guy's attention at the age then? My 22 years of age then. In fact ? My ex back then ? She was so amazed at how much I was into the game in preferring to watch Larry Bird dazzle the old home court side fans with his stellar moves. Larry lead the Celtics green machine like I had never seen one man do both in? And outside the Old Boston Garden . I'm a little older now at age 66? My one long standing most joyous memories are the 80s and the outstanding hard work Bird brought to each and every game. You sir are one incredible man. And the guys that played on the team were good too like Kevin ,Danny, Dennis? The Chief? Uh . He needed to put that flowered herb down so he could be a bit faster on those fast breaks huh? But you Larry will always be a mentor to me. I do Manny ways. Once again ? From this 66 year old guy? Thank you for teaching me so much as a fan to the game and the art of it. God bless? Live long and Prosper.
Same age. Born in Boston. Always loved the Sox & Bruins but never got into Bball until Bird. Every game, a huge crew of us would watch at the neighborhood bar. One friend's Mom was a waitress. Another friend's Mom was the cook. Good times! Now I'm a white haired, arthritic old lady and when I hear Bird's name, I can't help but smile my ass off. Those years were awesome.
As someone from European football country, I don't think I watched more than 3 basketball games in my life, I am all about football, but I know about Larry Bird more than about any other footballer in the world, and he is by far my most favorite athlete
Ive followed him from Port Artur, Tx. He won state with the Lincoln Bumblebees. Area schools feared going to the Bee hive. A McDonald's All American along with Kobe Bryant. Gets drafted but ends up over sees. His star was too bright for over seas teams. Comes back and becomes Captain Jack. Great locker guy that would go to war for his teammates. Always showed up and showed out when the game was on the line. Im just surprised he only got one ring. I salute Capt Jackson. One of the greatest to ever play the game. Highly underrated but never duplicated.
I loved watching Shawn Kemp, was a very big Sonics fan in the 90's. Saw him an the Sonics live a whole bunch of times. Before they made Key Arena the old Seattle Coliseum had general admission tickets that were clear at the top behind all the seats, had to stand watching the game. But they were super cheap an I was super young so it was no big deal to me then I just liked being in the building during the game..... I bought seven game packages a couple years an one was during the 95-96 season when Seattle won I think 63 or 64 games an went to the finals. I got to see them beat the Bulls in the regular season, eliminate the Jazz in game 7 an beat the Bulls again in game 4 of the Finals. An Kemp was awesome in every game, he was a straight stud while in Seattle. Broke my heart when he left. I don't think I saw them lose that year, in person I mean. They were really good in 95-96..... Great memories..... Was watching Griffey JR live back then as well, Seattle had it going on then. I've been to the new Climate Pledge Arena for a Kraken game, that place is wicked nice and I swear I don't think there's a bad seat in the place. We sat clear up top close to the roof but the way they built it the seats up top are way closer than they use to be, it's really cool. But that old Coliseum had a different feel or vibe to it. It was just the court, people an the roof. No distractions from advertising banners or luxury suites. It was just a sea of people. It seemed more exciting like that. That old scoreboard was horrible but I loved the energy of that old building. Climate Pledge is so nice though, can't really beat that new building. Maybe we can get the Sonics back now. I hope so.
@@kenanderson6761 I liked the Kingdome, didn't want it tore down. But I was wrong, the 'new' stadiums are so much better. I love them both. I loved the Kingdome as well, many great memories from in there. I saw Metallica an Van Halen in there, tons of Mariners games and a few Seahawks games including the last game in there when the Seahawks lost to Marino an the Dolphins in the playoffs. I don't remember who but some Seahawk dude ran a kickoff back for a TD. That play alone was worth the price of admission. It felt so good to see that....... I saw Gaylord Perry's 300th live, I saw Randy Johnson strikeout 19 dudes an lose on the same night Mark McGuire hit the longest homerun in Kingdome history. I saw Dave Winfield hit a HR over the boat that use to be in center field. All kinds of cool stuff. I loved that building. But I love the new ones way more. They're top notch an I understand why they wanted them now. Neither the Mariners nor the Seahawks will be moving any time soon with those stadiums. They both almost left back in the 90's. An the Sonics did leave us.
I was a kid in East TN.. the closest team around was the Atlanta teams. But it actually made me branch out more. In the 90s, there wasn't a hotter city to me than Seattle. Loved rooting for the Ms and especially the Sonics. SK40 was my guy. Jr too of course. Just saying, those teams had some reach.
The way I see it if Larry or someone just tried to get his brother to work harder then he may have been in the league as well. I would have loved to see that. Too bad he didn't have that friend to help him.
I love Larry Bird stories but everyone re-hashes the same dozen or so clips. You do an excellent job of researching Larry Bird content and offering clips no one else has. Worth a sub.
One of the "Big 3", greatest NBA/ABA players of all time, Larry "Legend". When you come out of college with the nickname, "The Hick from French Lick" and then in the pros get nicknamed, "The Legend" even by your fiercest rival, Magic, dude... there is no better nickname given in any field of competition aside from 'legend'. That name is earned, not chosen, not given, not a cliche. Michael "His Airness" Jordan, Wilt "The Stilt" Chamberlain, and Larry "Legend" [Bird](his last name was never even used in regard to Larry Bird once he was named 'legend', just the alliteration was used, js). Those three still are the best there's ever been. Remember the coach who named Bird as 'the only player he would choose to shoot a shot if his [the coach's] life depended on it. #RESPECT
But by your statement, SOMEONE should have been the "welcome to the league" moment for Bird. Odd how I don't remember Bird suffering from that - just people that TRIED and FAILED to do so.
People give me shit when I say Birds talent is levels above Lebrons then I have to break it down like this IF BIRD WAS 6’4 and LEBRON WAS 6’4 BIRD WOULD STILL MAKE THE NBA BECAUSE OF HIS SKILL LEBRON WOULD STRUGGLE THATS IF HE WOULD EVEN MAKE IT
You have to love the respect that Kemp showed, understanding that Larry was just playing the game, and doing what he was supposed to do to a rookie. Kemp earned his share of respect on the court in his career.
Damn, busted Kemps ass from the same spot! Couldn't do nothing about it. It's crazy how much I hated Bird and the Celtics (Lakers fan). It''s taken me until the last 10 years to go back and watch his highlights and appreciate his game objectively. I love this game.
same here i hated magic for stealing them rings away from bird,,,,,,,,,,,,but now i love magic,,bird magic r friends now ///love seeing bird and magic together.............they are the perfect cookie............i think magic is staying alive cus he waiting to die one day with his friend bird,,,,,,,,,,,
Hated those Celtics so much, but learned to respect the rivalry and Bird so much years later. I thought Bird was overrated back then but realized how wrong I was as time went by. Dude was a killer.
MJ, Bird, And Magic Johnson the original MJ were the best players of all time when you talk total package. But they also had something that players of late lack, which is toughness almost on the level of a prize fighter. They played hurt, sick, it didnt matter and they were still dangerous on the court no matter what they had going on.
Thats so funny. bc I played D3 football and in HS I never talked trash. maybe a little here and there. but my very first game as a freshman DB, the WR I was playing against most of the game would not stop talking shit to me. I'll admit, he was getting the best of me for about a qtr. I was still nervous. these were grown men and I was still 17. Anyway, later in the game, I lit his ass up on one play. a few series later I had a pick. he STFU, and for the rest of my career, I trash talked relentlessly. Just non stop, my jr and sr years. and ive always given that SOB the credit. so I def relate.
McHale said man, just get two, Bird was like, naw, three. It was a pleasure watching those games live from the 70s through the 90s, so many great teams battling it out, each with its own unique style.
I used to not like Eddie Johnson's story, because Bird missed the shot. But it has become my favorite Bird story these days. The way Eddie laughs when he's telling it makes it more awesome. lol.
I want to say that I've, truly, enjoyed your content and amazing insight. - You deserve MANY more subs. - Keep up the awesome work. - I'll do my best to spread the word. - Hit that thumbs up button, all. It'll help him sooo much. TY, PLB. I've enjoyed some fantastic looks back into time, and while I knew the BIRD was good, I had no idea he was soooo good. - The best overall I would say is not an overstatement.
@@timmyg831 It's because the HOF is the basketball HOF, not the NBA HOF. They take into account your college career too. With that in mind, Grant Hill is a shoe-in. Not sure on McGrady though.
@@manuelper …McGrady went into NBA straight out of high school. His stats aren’t much different from Kemp. Yet Kemp went into the Finals. But McGrady had virtually no success in playoffs. Still he gets into HOF but not Kemp.
@@timc1341 I don't know about "Drive" but When the game was ours is fantastic. It's Larry and magic together. Both of them writing each from their point of view through time, so it switches back and forth. I would recommend it.
Larry had every shot, but unlike many Pros, his Floaters inside, around the basket killed you. Then he goes outside buries the 3. But wait, spin off the glass. This was when the game was tough, not a Soft Game, like today. Bird, today, would be the highest paid player on the court.
Anybody who doesn’t think Larry Bird would be able to play in today’s League just needs to take one look at what Nikola Jokić has done the last 3 or 4 years… and realize that was pretty much Larry’s entire career. Bird was a more* athletic Joker back in the day, and with the ticky-tack contact fouls called in today’s game, he’d average 35-40 a game. The dude would cut you into ribbons and then pick the ribbons apart. Absolutely savage.
Larry Bird is the GOAT! End of story! I mean his game is multi-faceted. He can be beat you in so many ways. And he talks trash and backs it up too. I guess when you break LArry's lil brother's high school records, he skin you alive on the court.
It would be very appropriate for some group of NBA veterans to get together and make an unofficial trophy, give it to some worthy trash talker and start the ritual of presenting such a trophy each year.! Most everyone would rejoice!
Larry Legend for a reason. dont sleep on prime Kemp though, man was a savage, nobody attacked the rim like him. forget Kemps off court stuff, and the end years of his career, when he was in his prime, the Kemp Payton Sonics, most fun team i ever watched.
"welcome to the Fckin league"??? WTF u talkin bout Joel?...that was a travel (shuffled feet) and a double dribble (dribbled again after grabbing the ball with 2 hands and losing it) all in one play. MVP my azz
