Part IV of the ongoing series examining the most overrated player in NBA history. This installment explores the Cavaliers 2016 NBA Finals win over the 73-9 Golden State Warriors. But is the feat...overrated?
I will always love Dirk for beating Bron in the 2011 Finals. That whole team was heavily stacked against the odds and they still came out on top. Truly one of the greatest underdog stories in sports ever.
I don't know, I'm a Mavs fan, and I thought going into it that Dallas was the superior team. Miami had more star power, but Dallas was stacked with great veterans, including a Hall of Fame two-way PG in Kidd.
@Snow Montana You're crazy. The Mavs were loaded with talent. Dirk did his share of carrying, but really the whole team contributed. Kidd for one led all players in the 2011 Playoffs in Assists, Steals, and Three-Pointers made. JJ was an excellent backup PG. The Mavs also had two really good Centers in Chandler and Haywood. Terry was 6th Man of the Year just a couple seasons prior. Shawn Marion was great to have because he could do some of everything. Marion played great defense, and you never had to run plays for him, but he could still get you 20 on a given night. Stevenson was just a solid 3 and D wing. Even Brian Cardinal played his limited role as the ultimate pest really well. Even Peja came off the bench for one game and torched Kobe and the Lakers in the closeout game of a series sweep. At the time, I believe that Dallas team sported 4 out of the top 10 of players with the most career Three-Pointers. But where you're really underrating that team is on the defensive side. Dirk was not good on defense, but that Dallas team was outstanding on the defensive end.
Steph was injured. Draymond was suspended for the crucial game. Bogut was also injured and severe enough to miss games. All that taken into account, it was an extremely close series and Cavs barely beat Warriors 4-3 and Kyrie’s last shot in game 7 was the difference in the end (had he missed it, the warriors might’ve won that championship). The media made it sound like that without KD, Warriors would have ZERO chance against LeBron’s Cavs. The so called experts!
and kevin love was injured which can cleary be seen as his numbers overall that series were 8.5 ppg off sub 40 shooting and curry 32.7 points, 7.7 assists and 7.3 rebounds off 47/47/91 splits in his own comeback right before these finals ur also forgetting that draymond somehow had 32-15-9 off 75/73/100 splits that game
@greenlion2890 They played to a higher level than THEIR norm and hit shots this so called 'goat' couldn't, so you can stay on Lebum's 🥜🥜 if you want to but it's not a good look. You're teaching the next generation to accept mediocrity as the standard 🤡 dude has a losing record and it's celebrated 🤣
Facts, I promised myself my son will not call this dude the goat he will see films or jordan and Kobe and some other player that I thought was better than Lebron like Tracy McGrady and penny hardaway Brandon Roy even d rose before all of em got injured! Especially d rose considering the team he had and what he was doing to the league and the heat with Lebron on it! Rose was special but my fav player is McGrady and every time he played Lebron he cooked him and his team!
@@weaponx2980 agrees prime Tracy McGrady was fantastic. Kobe was my all time favorite player. And McGrady, for a stretch of time there, was Kobe’s virtual equal offensively. T-Mac had an underrated career.
@@skap_attack yes penny and tmac is my favorite players and I acknowledge jordan and Kareem as the best 1a 1b and Kobe! There is no way Lebron is better than Kobe and if you ask the players who’s better it’s always the same but leave it to the media to discredit the actual athletes who play the damn game and has played both of these guy! I’ve been stop watching espn because all it is a Lebron narrative being spinned all day like these guys sleep with Lebron or being paid by him! Lebron sexuals! And I remember Nick Wright saying KD was better than Lebron but soon as he landed that fs1 job it’s been all Lebron! And Lebron fans are hard to talk to it’s like they don’t know basketball and don’t want to hear anything outside of Lebron it’s like they’re hypnotized, come with facts they say it’s not true show them stats it’s not true
@@weaponx2980 I agree with you. Jordan and Kareem are definitely 1A and 1B. Kobe is definitely in my top 4 and Lebron is not in my top 5. I can’t watch espn anymore either. It’s sad. I grew up watching that network. But it’s just all propaganda now.
The thing with LeBron’s GOAT argument is that you have to explain so many points that it becomes confusing. If it’s so complicated to come up with a good GOAT debate for a player, then they shouldn’t be in the GOAT debate.
Facts Also if LeBron didn’t start that altercation with Draymond game 5, Draymond getting suspended game 6 if I can remember correctly, Cavs would of been out in 6. Draymond unusually balled out offensively gm7 led GSW that game.
You are correct. That was also a major factor in the cavs winning that series. So many things had to go just perfectly for them to beat a team that, yes. Had a phenomenal regular season. But was truthfully just marginal in those playoffs.
@@skap_attack Yep 2015 & 2016 GSW before KD had flaws, that includes the 73-9 team. I believe that rule changes that promoted 3pt shooting and took away the skilled traditional big man advantage & consistent mid range game helped GSW too. Shooting dominate teams normally don’t get to the finals. It’s teams from 80’s, and teams that didn’t win it all in the 90’s/00’s, that are better than 73-9 GSW imo. Keep bringing facts & LeBron’s flaws to the GOAT convo, just like LeBron fans like to knit pick and tell straight up lies about other legends careers in the GOAT convo especially Kobe’s career.
@@manniesupasport7977 100% facts here. I agree totally. And you couldn’t be more right about Lebron stans being outright fearful of Kobe’s career. Because he’s the most underrated player in NBA history. He is the anti Lebron. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-_1ln1hbydiw.html That one is just on Kobe. While I didn’t want to do, I feel forced to do an outright Lebron v Kobe video soon.
Kyrie is underappreciated for his 2016 title run man. No wonder he wanted to leave Lebron. Playing on the same level as Lebron and outplaying the MVP Steph?! Sheesh!
Kyrie Irving saved that series from being another embarrassing sweep to an already heavily blemished resume. 3 times to be exact. GSW went 15-9 during postseason, consisting of a 3-1 near gentleman's sweep by OKC in the WCF. Luckily for them, nobody besides KD could shoot their way out of a wet paper bag to close out. Can you say postseasons adjustments to a 1 Trick Pony that literally lived and died by the 3? How does adding 1 KD turn a 7 game series into back to back ass whippings of epic proportions? It makes 2016 look questionable at best?
Correct. And spot on. When the warriors added Durant, they absolutely annihilated the cavaliers. But the 2017 finals was actually a winnable series for Cleveland if Lebron didn’t get demolished in the clutch by Kevin Durant. Kyrie Irving averaged 29, 4 and 4 in that series and Kevin love averaged 16 and 11.
Curry's injury in the 2016 playoffs gets overlooked because the LeBron propaganda machine won't allow it to be a factor. The unanimous MVP couldn't get separation on Kevin Love on the perimeter... He was torching every defense prior to that MCL injury and was rushed back after just 6 games - anyone who has had an injury like that knows that if you are rushed back you might be able to perform well in the short term but the longer you play the worse the injury becomes and you run the risk of a full tear if you don't let it heal properly. Curry was clearly hobbled and the Warriors were still up 3-1 until LeBron called in a favour with the league office and had Draymond suspending after HE threw Draymond to the ground and stepped over him, preventing him from standing up without making contact with LeBron, subsequently without Draymond for the next game the Warriors lost AND lost their only rim protector against a team with 2 of the best drivers in the league.
Everyone thinks that because Bogut wasn't a great player that he didn't have much impact, but he was certainly at least as good as Tristan Thompson... Like you said, a rim protector and also a decent passer.
If you start factoring injuries you are gonna have to question A LOT of NBA rings. Injuries are part of the game, and to quote the great Michael Jordan "You put on the uniform, you are 100%. Period"
Not only has he not been a good defender for a while, he also flat out doesn’t give full effort on that end of the court for large stretches of game now.
@@skap_attack Yeah beyond lazy on D actually uninterested in it besides the 2 or 3 chase down blocks that get replayed ad nauseam for years then complains to the help defenders.

@@Mbappe505 hi. I’m simply pointing out that the narrative of him beating “the best team ever” and doing it single handedly is a complete garbage, fabricated lie. And it’s is at least partially being perpetrated by Lebron himself. Those are all facts. There’s no lies in this video.

You’re not a real Lakers fan then if LeBron really bothers you. It should be Russell Westbrook you’re mad at. Not LeBron, because he’s carrying the Lakers right now.
@@johnboyette5597 he at the very least should be viewed in the context of beyond a number 2. He was no sidekick in that series. He scored 41 on 17-24 in game 5 ON THE ROAD, down 3-1. That finals was a magic and Kareem, Kobe and Shaq pairing of two top dogs. Yet Kyrie is viewed in a lesser term of even Jordan and pippen lol. The ignorance of these 14 year old Lebron stans is off the charts.
Very nice assessment. Kyrie was EQUALLY instrumental in Cleveland winning that title. If Kyrie wasn't performing at such a high superstar level, they would not been champ. This is the same case as AD for the Lakers title.
@@bookieallen7448 and why did it take Draymond getting suspended to kickstart them back in the series? Also game 5 and 7 Kyrie was arguably more instrumental and important than Lebron. Dirk's won over the stacked Miami Heat team to me was one of the greatest wins and upset, all of the foolery in the 2016 finals doesn't make that no great win plus Kyrie was the best player on that Cavs team it's only now people are realizing LeBron pts don't produce wins, LeBron's impact on games ended when he lost to Spurs in 2014 when Kawhi shut him down.
Thank you SO MUCH for exposing the 2016 BS. Lebron singlehandedly campaigned to the league office for Green to be suspended. It was a total sham... It's comedic everyone ignores all the BS that took place in that finals. I'm no Warriors fan either...
I remembered that 73-9 Warriors team. They were losing the final regular season games which made me skeptical about their performances in the playoffs.
I always thought Warriors we’re gassed after trying to catch the bulls. Got to remember when the bulls hit 72 the previous record was 69 and they hit that with a few games left to go. The warriors took all 82 to get to 73 and teams were playing them hard. They had basically been in the playoffs another month by the time the actual playoffs started.
been saying for YEARS, the 2016 nba finals is the most overrated finals of all time, 5 outta 7 games blowouts, a garbage suspension, injuries, and i totally agree with the 2016 warriors being highly overrated, hell the warriors period even with kd being overrated...GREAT VIDEO
He played 11 full seasons between the ages of 18-36 in the NBA. He led the league in scoring 10/11, all nba first team 9/11, mvp 5/11, champion 6/11. Lebron played 17 full years between the ages of 18-36. He led the league in scoring 1/17, all nba first team defense 5/17, mvp 4/17, champion 4/17. If one can call themselves the goat it damn sure isn’t Lebron. Even still, I’ll take the video posted right here of Jordan calling himself the greatest player of all time. Not the best of his generation. The Goat...
The 2016 finals comeback was basically pick & roll to get Curry on Lebron for bullyball... Stacy Augmon can bullyball Curry so I never gave much credit to Lebron at all for that ring.
Kyrie carried Lebron to another ring while the media was asking Kyrie questions about Lebron's "father role". What a joke. Everyone knows Kyrie is the biggest reason Lebron won the chip that year. And everyone knows that without a miracle Bosh offensive rebound, a miracle Ray Allen find by Bosh, and a miracle highly contested massive step back three point shot made by Ray Allen, Lebron wouldn't have the 2013 ring either, a play where he had no fingerprints in and was purely decided by chance and not Lebron's will. I'll say this, you can put an asterisk on every championship if you really wanted to but Lebron has one of the biggest asterisks out there. The bubble ring, the Ray Allen shot ring, and the clutch Kyrie carry ring. Lebron's best ring was when he beat the Thunder.
carried is this a joke kyrie never carried and bron had 16th in the forth plus bubble ring is valid and gives everyone the same advantage not just bron
@@skap_attack you cant bron led both teams in every major satisical category and had arguablly the greatest 3 game stretch in finals history and did it off better efficiency than kyrie

Comparing to Kobe or Dirk, Lebron took most at the rim shots, leaving his teammates taking tougher shots with less field goal percentage. Lebron is a great player but not a difficult situation solver. At least, not historical top 10 level.
so were faulting lebron for having a better shot selection? also finishing at the rim attacks more attention down low which for his shooters gives them more open shots
Hold up you do know bron is way better than kobe right? Also he has a better felid goal percantage a better three point percantage and clucth percentage
Dirk’s run was far more impressive, the Heat did not suffer any injuries or suspensions to help the Mavs win, LeBron stuperfans really think this was the best championship run when they barely had competition in the East, had that Cleveland team faced the 2018-2019 Bucks, Raptors, 76ers and Celtics they would be a fourth or fifth seed and eliminated in the second round.
@@Fwbaji2.0 ok you're a bronsexual I get it, you need me to explain it to you. Look, he's 4-6 in the finals, that's a 40% win rate. If he played in the West, he doesn't go to the finals 8 years in a row, and 10 overall. That's less opportunities for rings. I gave him 4-5 finals appearances, a losing record in those finals would give him 1-2 rings.

I'm so glad someone pointed this out - LeBitch constantly patting himself on the back for his perceived triumphs is nothing new... But using the 2016 Finals win to call himself the GOAT over MJ was NEXT level delusion... These are the facts: - The 2016 Warriors, in spite of the 73-9 regular season records, are not even among the top 20 teams of all time in my estimation. The excelled in 2016 & set the record for a very simple reason - they were the first to implement a meta game shift in the way basketball was going to be played, and took the the league by surprise. The vast majority of teams were simply not ready or equipped to be able to match up with the Warrior's style of play, so they ended up reliably beating all the teams that they were better than, and also had some extremely good luck with a lot of games that came down to the last two minutes. However, once they reached the playoffs, they inevitably ran into the two teams that had the ability to match up with their style, and even overpower/punish them for playing small - the Thunder & Cavs. The rest of the league caught up the very next year, which is why they didn't just easily replicate the 73 wins or even come all that close - even after adding KEVIN FUCKIN DURANT - The Warriors had no business even making it to the finals over the Thunder; they were thoroughly outplayed, and their win was 100% on Klay's back as well a historically disgraceful collapse by Westbrook & Durant, just as @Skap Attack outlined. After they went life and death with the Thunder, the game plan for beating them was not only revealed to the Cavs to exploit, but their aura of invincibility was gone, and winning against them would no longer realistically be this legendary accomplishment (I mean, unless we are going to say that if the last couple of mins of Game 6 of the WCF went a bit differently and the Thunder advanced, that Durant would have been the GOAT because of it???) - The Warriors had just traversed the absolute bloodbath that was the Western Conference playoffs, while LeBron got to lightly jog over the pathetic East. - Harrison Barnes played/shot so badly my brother & I were convinced he'd been bribed by Dan Gilbert As Skap mentioned: - Curry was hurt & a shell of himself in the Finals - Draymond's bullshit suspension (don't know if Skap mentioned this actually) - Kyrie had to push them over the finish line with his shot, and actually match up with GSW's best player LeBron and getting bailed out by his Guards' clutch shooting to be gifted an NBA title - name a more iconic duo (Kyrie, D-Wade, Ray Allen). Ultimately I would place the degree of difficulty of this title run as being similar to the '97 Bulls; IMO the second easiest of MJ & the Bulls' title runs.
first why would bron gaurd a pg and currys injury is the biggest excuse he was cooking ock right before hand and even with dray they lost also ur ignoring the bench depth of gsw and kevin loves horrid finals performance as for not hitting 73 next year warriors where clearly cruising through the regular season and kyries shot is only one play like what
anyone who watched that finals knew as soon as gsw loss their rim protectors it was game over - the same thing happened in 2023....no rim protectors, made it easy work for the lakers, as LBJ had already seen that crappy roster at play and knew how to exploit it.
anyone who watched that finals knows how impressive it was for bron especially people who play and understand the sport not box score watchers like yall

I truly believe that the 2016 finals was scripted just to add to the "legacy" of LeBron to catch up with MJ or Kobe, so their fans could argue that LeBron beat one of the best teams in history. How can a 73-win team not go all the way? It's just very suspicious. Maybe if the Warriors didn't win 73 games that season, and just won like maybe 60-65 games, then the Warriors would win it all. But the NBA just wanted LeBron to win another ring because he might not ever win another one and would've retired with just 2.
Kareem & Magic Lakers> GSW MJ & Pippen Bulls> GSW Duncan & Parker Spurs> GSW Shaq & Kobe Lakers> GSW Just because GSW broke the record that year doesn't make them the Greatest Team ever assembled because just like how LeBron won the 2016 Finals MVP doesn't make him the Real Finals MVP......Kyrie deserved that shit!!!

There is other factor that should have disqualified GSW from even getting to the finals. Draymond who was 1 tech away from suspension, hit Steven Adam's nuts harder than he hit Lebron's. But since they were down by 3-1, NBA only gave regular foul to not suspend him so GSW can have a chance.

It wasn't playoffs my guy its final team 73 win team when did anyone in nba history beat a 73 win team none of you guys mention did that 4:36 But they were !!! Plus how about Game 7 where Warriors smoked OKC Again by OKC series Curry was 100% healthy like did you forget game 7 where Curry drop 45 ppg Plus if we gonna use injury excuse Kendrick Perkins was out in 2010 NBA Finals and KG was struggling from injuries Gary Payton and Charles Barkley were dealing with injuries in 1996 and 1993 Finals Plus Curry was 100% healthy by that finals 5:35 Let me tell you why because .... because he choked that's why because Lebron and Kyrie were gang banging him on defense 7:14 He outplayed Steph doesn't mean he is better then Steph 7:29 You know why we consider it greatest win of all time Because Lebron lead both team in every statistical category Points rebounds block steal assist When did any legend on NBA History have performance Even if he lost to Warriors in 2017 because they were arguably greatest team in NBA History He averaged 30 Point Triple Double in 2017 final and drop 50 bomb in 2018 Finals Game 1 and arguably outperformed Final MVP Kevin Durant statistically while carrying a trash team
Yawn. Overrated. He had Kyrie averaging 27 in the finals and destroying Curry head to head. The two best players in the series were both on Cleveland. He should have won that series. May I also add that the following year in the 2017 finals he had Kyrie averaging 30 in that series. So if he really “outplayed” Kevin Durant I think the cavs would have likely won more than 1 game in that series 😂
@@skap_attack damn what a response you really adress Lebron stats in 2016 finals And reason why it didn't went more then 5 games was because there third option have Klay Thompson You could argue Lebron Kyrie and Steph KD are even match up (it's not) It's shooting power of Steph KD Klay that make them unstoppable to guard and Cavs except Lebron was really bad on defense
@@traguy2625 they lost 4-1 in 2017 with Kyrie Irving averaging 30. In that series Klay Thompson averaged 16. Kevin Love averaged 16 points and 11 rebounds. Say whatever you want. In the moments where that series were decided, Kevin Durant soundly outplayed Lebron. As for the year before in 2016. Kyrie Irving averaged more points, more assists, fewer turnover and shot a higher percentage than Steph Curry. Kyrie Irving was EASILY the second best player in that series behind Lebron.
@@skap_attack Wdym by outplayed brother ? did KD does average 10 rebound and 11 assist that series And I am sorry to say to you Kevin Love isn't Klay Thompson And stats aren't end all be all but if you wanna go by it fine let's play by your game Warriors have the highest offensive rating in NBA History till 2020 Plus another analytical term call gravity aka attention how much defender demand from said player which Curry have on the highest level in nba history because he can shoot from the logo and you cant do anything about that brother Kyrie doesn't have shooting skill and gravity of Stephen Curry I am sorry to say that but that's the golden truth With Steph KD Klay the warriors were unstoppable in offense nobody stand a chance
@@traguy2625 Kevin Durant averaged 35 points per game on 56% shooting head to head against Lebron. Did Lebron’s rebounds and assists help him win more than 1 game? Has all of Lebron’s hollow stats helped him to not lose 6 of his 10 finals? Russell Westbrook has averaged a triple double four of the last five years. How’s that working out for him? I’m not saying those players are better on the supporting cast. What I am saying is Lebron had MORE THAN ENOUGH supporting cast to be competitive there and he wasn’t. What I am saying is if this guy truly is the Goat, he wouldn’t have had to amass three different super teams with three different franchises all to win 4 titles in 18 years. He’s a top 10 all time, historical player. He’s not the goat. He’s not that guy. It’s not even close.
It's not that's it's overrated; it's that it should be invalidated. With respect to LeBron, the Cavs should've never gotten the chance to compete with the Dubs due to the fact that the refs unfairly influenced the outcome for the Cavs to win. The Dubs couldn't even begin to play defense because they got called for everything on defense. It was the most egregious officiating in the Finals since the 06 Finals and almost as bad as the 2002 WCF. Meanwhile, the Cavs got what seemed like every call, fair or not. Many of Bron's rings are difficult to accept for 1 outsized reason or another, but this ring in particular is unacceptable altogether.
