@@djangojenkins7019 LeBron stans really are something else. They watch as their guy, who couldn't win squat despite having the best team in the league, jump from custom built superteam to superteam, joining some of the best players in the league, and then complain that it was somehow unfair that Jordan had Pippen and a coach who had won absolutely nothing prior to winning the coaching equivalent of the lotto by getting to coach Jordan while having the fortune of coming along just in time for Pippen's ascension into the higher echelons of the NBA at the time. The dude got lucky....then somehow won the lottery again by getting to coach prime Shaq and Kobe Bryant. Jordan only played under 78 games three seasons out of the 15 in his career. LeBron James in 8 years. Goes to the Finals FOUR STRAIGHT YEARS with Miami, wins two titles, loses two to a super team and an all-time great team. Leaves Miami and goes back to Cleveland and ends up in another FOUR STRAIGHT FINALS - continuously, after leaving Miami! He jumps to Cleveland - Finals. Leaves Miami - they are bad. He leaves Cleveland - they are horrible. Goes to The Lakers - Finals. Not as quickly as Cleveland and Miami, but he got them there. Jordan is a Demi god, he never pushed himself like Kobe or lebron in keeping his body tip top shape for longevity because he never had to! He was god in basketball shorts like bird said. Plus the eye test, plus the unbelievable flights to the basket which til this day is still unexplainable. His aura, his dominance of black culture because his shoes still are most sold! Guys take nights off because they are tired... LeBron does it all the time... sometimes they call it an "injury" but we know better. Speaking of that... guys pretending that a sore muscle or a headache is an "injury"... that's the league that exists today. Oscar Robertson (the Big O) said LeBron was 'much better' than Jordan, back in 2010. When LeBron had only 1 Finals appearance (losing to San Antonio) and 2 MVPs, and Jordan's full career was in the books. Jerry West and Steve Kerr said LeBron was right up there with Jordan, and that was before his ring with a 3rd team, his 3rd championship in his second year with a team. It was before he passed Kareem, which has now converted Kevin Garnett and Paul Pierce (fierce rivals of LeBron's at Boston) to saying James is the GOAT. Dr J said LeBron is re-setting the bar of what the GOAT is. 33% of the 120 NBA players answering The Athletic's poll last year said LeBron was the GOAT. It is still a minority view, of course. But it is growing, and far from an ignorant view.

@rustybarrel516
@rustybarrel516 10 месяцев назад
Totally agree. Stats, championships, awards and accolades are byproducts of greatness, not inputs to a formula for determining greatness. Once you’ve identified the field, you have to look at the players themselves - how they prepared, how they competed, what they did to make themselves and their teams better and able to win. To do that, you have to have witnessed the careers of those you are comparing. I grew up in the 80s, so I saw the careers of Magic, Bird, and MJ, and on through LeBron and today’s other superstars. I have to rely on the opinions of those who also saw the great players before then. I hear people like Jerry West and Bobby Knight say MJ was the greatest they ever saw. With all that, I continue to believe MJ is the greatest, and he is hands down the player that I’d want first if I want to win.

It's ALL opinion based. There's no full agreement even amongst those who saw both play (as a player themselves or as a fan). I've watched pro basketball since the ABA days (70's). I don't have a goat, but I believe Lebron is a better all-round player than MJ. If forced to pick a goat basketball player overall (highschool, college, pro) I'm picking Alcindor/Jabbar. Most dominant....Wilt, he owns the NBA record book. Greatest winner- Bill Russell 11/13 rings, 8 in a row...having to go through Wilt while undersized himself. What I'm not going to do is run down these current players and their era in order to up hold any previous great as The Goat. As a fan of the game I'm going to enjoy the talents of Giannis, Jokic, Curry, Kyrie, Tatum, Halliburton, Luka, Embid, Lillard, SGA, Anthony Edwards, Wembanyama, Holmgrem...etc.

We are debating Lebron's 21 years of basketball accomplishments against Michael Jordan's 13 years of accomplishments with the bulls and it still falls short. When we are comparing the both of them, most of us dont even count Jordan's Wizard years and there still seems to be a gap between the two. After 21 seasons we're still trying to figure out if he passed Mike?? I think the ship has sailed. Let's just appreciate Lebron's greatness for what it is and leave it at that.

MJ had the greatest career in terms of accolades, but that doesn't make him the better player because you're comparing what MJ did in his era to someone else in their era. Competition varies. Not everything is created equal. I don't know why you guys don't understand that everyone's career path is different. MJ's greatness is heavily relied on his titles, which is a team accomplishment. If MJ was as good as he was but won 1 or 2 less titles, that shouldn't change how people view him because it's not all on one player to win & that's where people mess up. If you put Olajuwon on the Bulls in '91 & MJ on the Rockets in '91, MJ doesn't get 6 titles. MJ being on the best team relative to his era to win those 6 titles is overlooked. When MJ was losing to the Pistons 3x in a row, MJ was still the best player. When Kobe lost to the Suns 2x, he was still the best player. When LeBron was losing to the Warriors, he was still the best player. THE BEST PLAYER DOESN'T ALWAYS WIN. And lastly, MJ was dubbed the greatest in '92, with less accolades than Russsell, Wilt, Kareem, Bird & Magic. Funny how accolades didn't matter for MJ but now matter for LeBron. The hypocrisy.

You may love your wife but, if the mistress isn’t a bad person, you know the mistress >> your wife. Careers are more managed and planned for longevity in today's NBA. Much less contact, more 3s, load management, top players colluding to play together. In MJ's day the best players mostly just played their ass off in the moment, and worried about next year 'when it comes'. Lebron's longevity is still amazing, but I don't think it's a viable argument for GOAT because his era 100% favors longevity.

The fact is if an organization could win 6 titles in 13 years or have a great player leave, win chips elsewhere, then come back win an all-time great chip, then leave and win a chip somewhere else. I think any owner of a team knows what they would pick.

Lebron would've never left if the Cleveland front office would've actually done their job and traded for some decent talent. That is self evident by the fact that he returned once they got a budding talent in Kyrie Irving and only left once Kyrie ditched him. If Lebron stays, the Cavs never get Kyrie in the lottery and Lebron never even has a legitimate chance at a failing franchise. Dont forget, Jordan almost left the Bulls for the Knicks with Ewing, It would be interesting to see how Jordans career wouldve unfolded in Lebrons shoes.

Listen, LeBron has had ab fantastic career. I've witnessed his 21 years and he's been absolutely phenomenal. Unfortunately, I'm actually old enough to have lived through the Jordan era & as the league transitioned to the Duncan/Shaq/Kobe era. How can you call anyone the GOAT with more championship loses than wins? He doesn't even have the most championships from his own era!!

Lebron doesn't have to be MJ. He is Lebron, no need to hate on him being who and what he is. If you prefer or like MJ better, good for you, but to belittle accomplishments of any man is just tacky for a man to do to another. MJ is the goat. You complain when MJ is compared to Lebron because the debate is over, then literally a stat revolving around longevity and excellence is brought up. Now, the debate is back on and we need to be reminded Lebron is chasing, MJ and is not the goat. Yet he is the one sparking the debate all the time. My point, he may do it, but clearly, others go out of their way just as much to do the same. Pot, kettle, black.

Everyone keeps saying LeBron played longer than Mike, longevity…blah…blah. Mike came into the league in 1984, he retired three times and finished his career in 2003. That’s 19 years knocking on the door of 20, and at that age Mike could have played 1 or 2 more seasons, but chose to leave again. He retired and kept coming back playing like he never left. With that said could Mike have played as long as LeBron or longer? Possibly.

If Lebron is in, say, his 14th or 15th season and he scores 39,000 points, that's saying something. 21st year? No. I've said this before and I'll say it again. Scoring average is more telling. If you average 15 points per season but you play for 30 years, imagine how many points you'll have at the end of your career. This G.O.A.T. debate is stupid.
