Thanks for the results Casey. I think you have treated this quite fairly given the effort that you can afford to put into this as a hobbyist. As you said in your update, the standard observer's color contrast sensitivity at different points in sRGB or CIEXYZ space can differ quite greatly. You would need to translate to something like CIELAB to have something that is more perceptually uniform (at least with regards to the standard observer, not for an individual with CVD). So treating your new code as a confounding effect is a big 'definitely'. Also changing the monitor, as you said. Making these changes to the code or data processing (outlier handling) in hindsight are big wrenches in the machine, but I know you can't think of all of these things beforehand. For preserving the most truthful results, I think you are hamstrung into sticking with your original code though. When it comes to the outliers, it would have been good to define what your treatment is before you get the results, but maybe the fairest thing you can do with your data is just to scrap the highest and lowest scores from every day and just calculate the mean from the 8 remaining datapoints. But yes, once you have worked through all these kinks, then you will need to start anew with some fresh eyes somewhere!
Thanks -- in case it wasn't clear, neither the monitor nor the code changed for the results that were reported in this video. And yeah, agreed that the outlier stuff isn't sound science... I don't really expect anyone to believe my assertions about those data points (I would have a hard time trusting that myself) but I wanted to share my thoughts (and the results of eliminating those points) just because they were pretty obvious to me as the combination subject/experimenter. And of course even if you include all the "outlier" data points there is still a strong signal, so that's also satisfying. :-) Thanks for the thoughts.
I used them for a month or two afterwards, and my eyes were fine, with the continued sense of minor improvement (but not more than already reported). I haven't used them in a while (busy summer) but intend to start again now that I have more time in the AM. I want to wear them daily for a month or two and then re-test to see if there is any further improvement... probably won't be a video for it but I'd update the video description here.
