Led Zeppelin - Stairway to Heaven (Ann & Nancy Tribute) (BRITS REACTION!) 

The three Led Zeppelin members said it was the most glorious rendition ever.

According to Ann Wilson they got a blind invite through their manager and didn't know ahead of time what they were going to be asked to sing. They thought they might get Rock and Roll because they'd covered it before. When they found out it was going to be Stairway she said wh not. They may as well go down in flames in front of their idols. Added to the difficulty of covering this in front of the band? They only got to rehearse it 2 times - for a total of about 30 minutes - around 15 minutes each. And remember - she was 62 at the time...and she killed that belting at the end. Hell, she's in her 70s now and can still belt with the best of them. Sit down, Adele. LOL!

To be a rock and not to roooooooollllllllll!! Ann outdid herself on that!!! Massive chills!!

I think the reason Robert Plant got teary eyed and there was a big reaction from the woman behind Jimmy was when the large choir appeared they were all wearing bowler hats, as well as Jason on drums, as a memorial to Jon (Bonzo) Bonham, who wore a bowler as his signature hat. Robert was very close to Jon, so I imagine it was very emotional to see, plus to see Jon's son, OMG, all of it really! EPIC!

If I remember correctly Ann was 62 during this performance. Her voice has deepened somewhat over the years but she's still got it.

no matter how many times i have watched this.. i get teary eyed at the end when Jason Bonham looks up to the heavens!! Gets me every time... His father would be so very proud !! Ann Wilson is hands down one of if not the best female rock vocalist of all time :) and lets not leave out the Guitarist, how nervous must he have been playing the most iconic solo in front of the legend himself??

You have to have the right kind of voice to sing this song and Anne has it, obviously. Oh please check out Heart's later 70's songs that you will absolutely love. A great rendition of what is arguably the greatest rock song ever written.

Led Zep didn’t know Jason Bonham was going to be there! Heart was one of the few groups they allowed to sing this song. They had all known each other from the 70’s onward. Mutual respect existed. You need to hit earlier Heart stuff before corporate suits tried to push them into more “marketable” stuff.

I think Heart and the studio musicians did a magnificent job! If you watch the entire tribute to Led Zeppelin, you will also see other great performances by the Foo Fighters, Kid Rock, and another amazing performance by Lenny Kravitz and his great guitarist Craig.

I watched this when it was televised and it was amazing! John Bonham's son was on drums and really made it special as well. I have loved Heart forever also so this whole performance is one of my all time favourites

In a word: Epic. A truly moving tribute to one of the greatest bands by one of the greatest bands. Nice to see Led Zeppelin enjoying Led Zeppelin as we all have. Ann Wilson has the voice of a giantess. I've seen HEART in concert several times - never disappointed - and they always do a few Zep tunes. Props also to sis Nancy on the guitar totally capturing that song's signature. Awesome choice. *The woman seated behind Jimmy Page is David Letterman's wife, Regina, (he was an honoree as well at the Kennedy Center Honors that year) and Dave's head is in profile ahead of her.

Got to see Led Zeppelin in concert at the Tarrant County Convention Center in Fort Worth, Texas in 1977. One of the absolute best concerts in my life.

Great reaction guys! FYI the song is available on iTunes. Stunning performance and rendition of this classic song! Heart has performed covers of Zep since its early days so this was a great night for them as well. Ann said that she was incredibly nervous but it all went away quickly because of their love for the song and the band.

I believe, 'back in the day' Heart were explicitly given permission, or Jimmy Page's 'blessing', to perform Led Zeppelin songs. AFAIK, he not only saw them live covering 'Zep, but got up on stage with them. Ann Wilson is one of the few singers, male or female, of the 20th century who could still 'knock it out of the park'. A Remarkable voice. Robert Plant almost looked overwhelmed, Jones and Page looked thrilled, delighted and Rockin' out. I believe the lady behind BP2's head was John Bonham's wife, and mother of Jason. The story I read was Robert Plant had invited Jason to that event with them, but Jason had 'bowed out' claiming he had a gig that night. So Plant was acknowledging him at the end with that in mind. I also read the remaining members of Led Zep' had helped raise Jason after his fathers death. So him playing in his fathers place must have been doubly meaningful. I checked, your only Heart Reaction was 'These Dreams', which was their more commercial '80s 'soft rock' ('glam Rock'?) comeback period (1985-1990). As other comments said, 'These Dreams' was unusual because it was sung by Nancy Wilson. Their most successful single 'Alone' was from the same 'comeback' period. Heart covers Stairway and a few other LZ songs when on tour, most likely the ONLY ones allowed to do so by Zeppelin directly. I have seen them do this live in New York state, and they CRUSHED it there too. They really idolized LZ their whole career, and do it proper justice.

When you put on the shades, you looked rock star cool- in a very Tim Butler sort of way (I hope to god you know who that is!).

The Heart song you reacted to before was "These Dreams" which A) is a generic ballad, and B) wasn't even sung by the lead singer Ann (the dark haired singer with the great voice). It was performed by her sister Nancy which has an ok voice. You should check out "Barracuda" which more in line with Heart's music.

Funny thing is I saw Zeppelin in 73 in Tampa Fl. Was my first concert. I was 13. Not sure the year but I saw Hart in 75/76 ,Ga Jam , I believe ,so the bands were fairly contemporary. I'm sure they knew each other. Great Times !

Rock Royalty, singing possibly the most famous rock song of all time, written by Rock Gods, TOO the very Rock Gods themselves and absolutely crushed it. Ann Wilson is quite possibly one of the top 5 female vocalists of all time and Nancy is underrated in her ability to mix a high harmony that blends with her sisters so well that it almost just sounds like a dub of Ann. When you see Yo Yo Ma rocking out, you know its good. A tear every time.

I've said it before on other videos of this performance: One has to wonder what it is like to be an aging rock icon, part of a group that created and shaped the entirety of rock from their point on, and influenced many other genres.... What is it like to have had that success, to be finding it a little harder to play the notes with the same energy now, and then to be faced with the splendor of your own immortal work being echoed, even devoted right back to you out of love. If you're someone who has achieved so much and cannot feel moved by the gifting of it back in return by those who cherish it, you missed the point of it all. God bless all the great artists.

Love this performance. You are correct about great songs, they can be sung by either a man or a woman. Stevie Nicks once said that a great song should be able to be sung in different genres as well. Heart is great! Barracuda, Crazy on You, and my fave is Magic Man.

Jimmy was loving that solo. It had so much of his style in it, but wasn't attempting to be perfect to him. No cover can ever be perfect to the original, but the spirit contained within and the style... That is something an originator should be able to acknowledge and enjoy.

It's a great song - not quite Kashmir or Rain Song great, but very good. And Anne and Nancy did a cracking job in what must have been nerve-jangling circumstances. And full marks to the guitarist for holding it all together. But Jason on drums told us all we needed to know about how much the lads approved of what they were doing.

Personally I think this is better than Led Zep doing it and you definitely need to listen to the full unedited version.

It helped Robert Plant and rest of Zep be okay with Heart covering this song with Jason Bonham on drums behind them playing in his daddy’s shoes!

When they wrote this song they probably never thought in their wildest dreams that they would be honored by the President of the United States for their contribution to music.

Classic song! Didn't love the group, but this song will always be a classic. Love the guitar parts, both the softer bits and the ramped up parts. I prefer understated guitar rather than full on electric guitar solos as a rule (though Brian May's had many a good solo over the years), but as I said, this is a classic. Nice bit of nostalgia, so thanks! Speaking of nostalgia, if you haven't seen the live version of Phil Collins 'In the air tonight', you totally should (111 million views!!) Epic all around!

I cannot for a minute believe you ever heard anything from "Heart" that was disappointing. Ann Wilson is literally one of the greatest female rockers in history, and Nancy plays guitar like a God and also has one Hell of a voice. I have never in my life heard anything from them that didn't absolutely blow me away!

80's Heart had some good stuff, but it was in no way their best stuff. I think the business was leaving them, but ultimately they never really left their roots. And they loved Zeppelin. They will perform their 80's stuff, it's not what I'll ever remember them for.
