A tip for the quad sweep I got from PsychoFitness after I commented on one of his videos, is that the best way to train the vastus lateralis is to put focus on pushing with the outside of your foot during any exercise, and combine this with a close feet stance. The best exercises to apply this on are hack squats and the leg press. If you think about it, it makes sense - you flex your outer quad by "grabbing" the ground with the outside of your foot. After I started applying that, my quads blew up in a matter of months and are now actually one of my stronger body parts, especially considering I'm a tall guy myself at 6 feet, while they were my weakest body part before.
Your traps are jacked. I’ve tried your no belt method for front squats and my abs were crazy sore the following day. Thanks for all your motivation my friend! Stay Golden!!
Man, I’ve struggled with balance when performing the Bulgarian Split Squat with 2 dumbbells and because of you I am now using 1 much heavier dumbbell while using my off hand for balance. Holy S***t what an amazing burn on the legs. Thanks Wesley (new to your channel)!
Wesley have you tried doing partial reps after going to failure on leg curl machine & after than 10/20 seconds iso-hold. I have seen Tom Plates & John Meadows preach this multiple times.
@@abdullahmahmood3040 No, I was actually curious, because it sounds like a nickname due to squatting lots of plates maybe and since I didn't hear of anything like this I was hoping for someone to potentially explain that further, but since you guys admit it's just a misspell OK. Correcting? No way, man. I'm not even an english speaker, so it's more likely that someone should correct me, not the other way round. Didn't mean to be mean or anything like this, chill.
I used to do a Tom Platz technique on the leg curl. First go to failure on a lighter weight, then have a spotter push the weight up, then as the spotter pulls the weight down you try to resist him, 10-15 seconds at least.
@@VintageGenetics wesley the type of guy who knows everything and never takes advice from anyone therefore never becomes a champion because he already truly believes he is the smartest guy in the room. These are the type of people nobody remembers
Wesley I have seen John Meadows teach his clients/Olympia contenders Shawn Clarida & Josh Wade to rotate their shoulders externally & put shoulder blades back to bring out back details. IFBB Head Judge Steve Weinberg also preach this in many of posing tips videos.
The main message I'd relay to Wesley is to take the lead from Arnold: from the start, present your height in an appropriate way, showcasing your physique to its optimum. Example? images.app.goo.gl/6S6rTMu8vcbti17GA Note how Arnold stands tall, instead of the way so many bodybuilders do these days...and yet not so high that you accentuate your 'linear' shape, he somehow magnifies how 'regal' he is, as if he's looking down on everyone. (Which he was.). People say 'Don't try to be Arnold!', to which I reply 'You could do far worse.' (Which I would propose has been the case thus far.)
@@probitionate the best part is that in that photo Arnold wasn't even hitting a "proper" vacuum. He was just trying to make his stomach as flat as possible (without pulling it in like Chris Bumstead does for example). And in my opinion, that looks even better than a vacuum
@@denzelcrocker992 'The Vacuum' was 'owned' by Zane. The 'overhead vacuum', by Sergio. If nothing else (!!!) Arnold had tremendous instincts. (Aided and abetted by Joe Weider, let's be honest. No matter how you feel about the monopoly the Weider brothers had on the sport at the time, Joe was an artist.) If people could get past Arnold's legendary iconic status, they could learn _so_ much simply by really... paying...attention. (One thing you will find he _never_ did was pose in the ridiculously wide splayed-foot way that a seemingly endless group of currently competing guys do. Ugly, ugly...fucquing ugly.)
Breon Ansley tells in training videos to do high as well as low reps in leg workout to bring out the quality & deep cuts in the muscle. What do you think Wesley? Research also supports this, as legs have 50-50% of slow & fast twitch muscle fibres.
When it comes to building legs free weight squat is the best and the king exercise for maximum legs growth, don’t expect huge results out of hack squats man just stick to the basic and go for plain squat then you will notice the big difference not only slightly. Goodluck

Wes i will try this routine for outet sweep since i have flexability issues with barbell squats back leans forward. Hack i find better and i will try those single leg squats. Great vid man
As a tall guy myself, i really find it difficult to go to failure without involving my middle section and other body parts while i'm doing squats. The Bulgarian Split Squats will be very helpful to concentrate on my quads and reach failure. Definitely I'll include this exercise on my next leg workout. Thank you Wesley
Thoughts on holding dumbbell on leg up side and supporting with leg on ground side aka meadows method for those bulgarians? Also platz...leaned back to get those deep cuts on the leg extensions...as per glass. Thanks
Hey Wisely, most of the tall bodybuilders prefer leg press for more quad activation and also you can push more weight hence more muscles. What's your opinion about switching thing's personally i like doing squats but i feel my lower back, hamstrings when i try to push more weight . Thank you. love you & bring it onn 2020 💪
Last person in the game I would take advice for “big legs” lol . . . Lol f.ing with you! Most underrated physique in the classic game looking forward to your next Olympia!
Wesley, what is this training method that you use when doing the sets?. How do you determine which work sets are? Do you change exercises at each workout? How do you determine your work volume? greetings from Bulgaria
Wes, you say only asians can do that. Well, here's the solution. Breakout your WC and build in an asian. That means a toilet totally flat on the ground. The first two weeks it's very difficult to go for a long toilet, but after that you can sit on your heels with your feet flat on the ground. And then you can do the exercise like our asian friends do.
I just tested a 90 degree knee angle and a knee in front of the toe angle and I can tell you the knee in front method puts more pressure on your knee. Although if you’re not doing any weight I doubt anything bad will happen
Its not bad. It all depends on your ankle mobility. If you can squat with your knees past your toes while pushing your knees out to the side, you'll be fine
If you want more leg mass, getting stronger on the squat will work best. Think about it, who will have bigger legs, someone squatting 255 for 8, or someone squatting 325 for 8 reps?
@@Cruzinator4500 someone who is squatting with more time under tension slower and contracting their quads the most. if your logic was correct then powerlifters should all be mr Olympia
@@Death2AllGaming thats false. Time under tension with very little weight will not give you big quads. Getting stronger on squats will. And powerlifters have very impressive quad development. Look at the 83kg competitors like Russwole and Jamarr Royster. They have huge quads.
@@Death2AllGaming also I assume you haven't increased your squat in order to accurately assess my question since you assumed I was referencing powerlifting. Big bodybuilders are strong bodybuilders. Increase your weight for a set of 10 on squats by 50-60 lbs and see how big your legs get.
DrReagge I never do... 38 and been training for about 5 years. Though I always do a warm-up set and then gradually increase the weight, before getting to a sets of failure
Steve C. Haha i laughed hard when he said that i think he was refering to the asian guy that was at this year olympia in classic who does booth feet together. I have lack of flexabilty on barbell squats also i tend to lean forward my back cant seem to copy tom platz prayer squat or asian guys...wait im quarter korean lol
Wesley is a great youtuber but quite frankly and sadly, will not be a great bodybuilding competitor. He looks like he is always lean, when it is time to cut weight and dry out, he always looks flat. Stay in youtube sir.
