Useful video, I'm gonna have to try pushing the handles forward instead of pulling myself down. Always up for getting more out of quad extensions they've been #1 for growing my legs last two years.
Holy hell. I was just kind of nodding along because in my head I could see it, and it made sense, but once you actually sit down and push forward, you realize how much of that natural impulse is there to extend the legs versus no impulse from simply pulling down on the handles. It seems so obvious, but I would have never thought of it.
On the leg curl video, the cue was to pull up on the handles to counter the push down intention on the weight. This made sense as a counter force. So why here is the cue to push handles in same direction as the leg pushes the weight? Shouldn't it be to pull backward on handles as legs push forward?
Awesome(!) I confess: never heard before in so many years(!) Thank You so much Dorian and Erik it’s been so good and clear, that’s make a lot of sense for me: so maybe I’ll be wrong but, just to extract few main points among others, the role of the torso, not unlocking the hips( and here comes the difference from grabbing and pushing down to the ground), adding the full surface of leg on the pad, and opening it( not kicking) towards, slowly and well aligned, should give the different contraction and the peak of it, let’s say, more naturally and not screwed by the lift. Will I get lame?!😆😊 Blessings dudes👍🏻👏🏼👊🏻👊🏻👊🏻
If you keep your knee up that's when you also activate rectus femoris which is a helper in hip flexion. As you extend the knee you shorten this one to a significant degree. When you start to flex your knee and strech this muscle, what is this muscle going to do if also needed for hip flexion? Contract or extend? Hence shaking. It's similar to calf raises in squat when we talk about shaking legs -> gastrocnemius in a similar position. Thank you for a great video, I like to come back everytime!
Yes for sure Boris! You’re thinking through this well. So also something no one talks about is Vastus intermedialis sits under all this but attaches only femur to patella! The stability you choose to help push “forward” with handles can help engage this quad leg builder like crazy! Hope that helps and give it a try!!
@@ericseifert6107 What I love is you show people how to activate specific parts of the muscle/muscle group and that's what muscle developement is all about. People usually focus on lifting the most weight, aka moving something from point A to point B (that's what tests are all about right). But HOW do you move it is more important, also as injury prevention.
@@ericseifert6107 great! Thank you for taking the time to explain this movement in a way that will definitely help in connecting with the muscle and make the exercise more the just moving weight up and down. Thanks again!
I like to focus on the "squeeze” at the top. That part does not really get worked when pressing, for me. Seems like Eric was more focussed on bottom part of movement? He mentioned, "Even if we give up the top, it don’t matter.” (8:00 min) I disagree. I think Leg Ext. should be more about the squeeze at the top? ....lower weight, slow, and squeeze, imo. The lower part is already getting worked when pressing. Also, I pull body down w/ handles to keep butt from rocking. He was saying to push handles instead, cuz not too concerned about top of the movement, apparently? Thx💪
Hey GG, just a note..context of this is not losing any motion at all…BUT most people start to change the “bottom” 80 percent of this motion to somehow get back to the “top” 20%. Also the seat for this machine like most are on an incline..IF you add intention to push the handle/bars FORWARD it creates opposition to the ideal direction of the machine…think this exercise is about pushing forward and uphill, not JUST an up and down force. Give it a try and shoot me some feedback. 👍🏻
Hey man. I know what you mean however I believe Eric is trying to coach Quinton on how to get more out of the first 80% as he is already strong and connected at the top. During the exercise we see Eric coaching Quinton saying give up the top…. This is likely because he is trying to coach Quinton to understand how to maximize the first 80% as he is already strong and aware how to get the top range. That’s my take away.
