"Call your dogs! They can feast on your corpses!" Legend! Vorador, the great blacksmith of Janos Audron, forger of the mighty Soul Reaver, all began with him!
I love that despite Kain having a millennia to live and learn through ( genuinely becoming wiser for it) he still maintains a good degree of arrogance that Vorador chastised him for. One of those showcases of good writing displaying that just because you have your character grow and change does not mean you need to alter or rid them completely of every aspect of their personality to compensate for their change in perspective from entry to entry.
Kain had absolutely no respect for Vorodor, ever. It's obvious in this scene what his thoughts were. He served only his ambition and throughout everything that never changed. When he's forced to kill Raziel is probably the most human you ever see him act in the entire series. Which is brilliant btw, when you look at his face in Sr1 intro 'cast him in' he clearly took no joy in that, a masterclass in framing
I like to think he only participated in that fight because he thought fighting a living suit of armor would be interesting. You can see this as he tests if nocking his helmet would stun him.
I never realized that there’s a person hanging upside down from Vorador’s chalice on the table. I come back to these and discover something new each time
He slaughters most of the Circle in a single sitting like he was having dinner (literally) just to send a message. Stops an entire war with one assualt. Absolutely epic!
My brother and I always used to joke about the reason why Malek took so long to respond to the circle's cry for help was because he was in the toilet. lol
Looking back on this, it shows just how powerful both Vorador and Malek were at this point, as Malek is the one Pillar Guardian Kain himself isn't able to slay (aside from Anarcrothe, but that's just because he was a chickenshit and Mortanius did the honors himself). Instead, he has to call in Vorador to get the job done, and somehow he's strong enough with both his vampiric strength and magical abilities to kill a disembodied soul in a magical suit of armor. Considering Blood Omen in the context of the whole series, this helps underscore how Kain is still a fledgling vampire, and both of those warriors are completely beyond him, and the Pillar Guardians themselves weren't nearly as dangerous as they thought they could be. Of course, later on he defeats the Dark Entity, but he had the Soul Reaver at that point, so that would explain how he managed that.
@@Jose-se9pu No wonder, they were nowhere near as good as Sarafan Knights. Hunters used much more technological advanced approach, while knights - inquisitors had to deal with vampires in close combat. And of course Vorador was one of the most powerful vampires, that walked the Nosgoth`s soil... And he was much older by the time of Ctizen Army. He trained and killed for thousands of years... I`d be pissed, if went down, like a punk :) like i was, when Witchking of Angmar and his pals did against first Aragorn, and then Eowyn... What the Hell were they doing in the time, they were Wraiths? Playing scrabbles?
Moebius is my favourite he was pretty badass and knew everything that was gonna happen like a thousand years before and even when he die he dies like a badass because he literally knows nothing can stop him but Raziel
He was the definition of "neutral", he himself says he only preys on humans to feed, and dont get in their business...and we learned in Soul Reaver 2 that the reason for him to kill the Circle was in revenge for what they did to Janos.

It was always interesting to see how savage Vorador was when he was originally human, while his master, Janos (the one who turned him), was really calm, noble, and overall good while being a pure vampire. Makes you wonder if only vampires who were originally humans were jerks, and pure vampires were a peaceful race.
Indeed pure vampires like Janos look like angels(and propably behave like angels) and their enemy the Hylden look like demons and behave like demons. However Raziel as a vampire and an ex human is noble and is good and i have read a noteworthy comment that the fact that raziel grew wings makes a kind of relation to Janos because Janos had also wings and was noble and good. And in soul reaver 2 how did Janos know Raziel and told him "my child what they have done to you? " ?
Probably, the ancient vampires seem to be peaceful, refined and such, until their god betrayed them. The human vampires are more like children of violence, with human beings being their prey, the hunters, and the new circle wanting to take the pillars from them, they were forced to a less elegant life and thus a less benevolent behaviour.
@@powerincarnate6783 I think you're all overestimating how black and white the morality of the game is; The Vampires essentially sealed the Hylden in hell because they refused to die. Effectively, the Vampires were a bunch of religious zealots who would have killed the Hylden if they could, all in the name of their god (The Elder God). As for Raziel being good, remember that as a vampire, he probably committed untold cruelties while persecuting humans during his millenia of service to kain. Remember that the world was already covered in smoke, with humans tolerated for sport and as cattle. His awakening is less a case of "wow, we were evil" and more "fuck those guys, how dare they betray me." Not until SR2 does he begin to be motivated by more than vengeance, ironically both by the Elder God's prime tool - Mobeius - being such an obviously slimy bastard that it left Raziel questioning the righteousness of The Elder's cause, and by meeting his past self, in which Raziel realised that he was, and always has been, a 'self righteous fiend'. Really, Raziel is the tragic Greek hero, a creature who forces his way along his story, but one who, for all his powers, is undone by his shortcomings. His success comes in being, rather than undone by rage, or himself (the reaver), elevating himself beyond destiny by accepting it, and sacrificing himself willingly.
Well, yes. The ancient vampires were noble and probably many of them were very peaceful and wise (but I still think Janos was probably just incredibly good and kind for any race). But remember, the vampires started the war instigated by their god who hates the Hylden for their refusal of the wheel. The Hylden only became very Deakin like after eons in the demon dimension where the vampires sent them, and, in turn, the vampires became monsters because of the blood thirst the Hylden gave them. The turned vampires always had the blood thirst, so unlike the elders they knew nothing else. But they weren't all so bad either. Most of Vorador'a vampires (pretty much like himself) only approach humans to eat and mostly left them alone. Vorador hates mankind for all they have done. In words of Janos "he has suffered much. He cannot forgive them". And even then, Vorador only attacks the circle after the seraphan killed not only his vampire children, but his master, Janos Audron. And tell me, don't you enjoy their deaths after seeing how the seraphan took down Janos?
@@alessandroguarrera2203 the Elder God was the real villain because he manipulated the Hylden and Vampires into conflict, plus he was also a false, selfish god who lied about his relationship to the souls, pretending that he was purifying them, when he was only feeding on them, and "wiping" them so they would remain in perpetual ignorance of what he was actually doing. Both the Vampires and the Hylden were actually a threat to him, because their longevity allowed for the possibility of them figuring out the ruse and coming after him. The Elder God is in essence, an extra-dimensional apex predator that farms lower life-forms, thus limiting their potential. It is telling that the Elder Gid gets "bigger," thus betraying its lack of divinity, and as it does, Nosgoth decays.

In LOK Vampire can't reproduce by fertility because they're cursed with not only bloodthirst, but also Sterility, and the only way they can create vampire children is by spreading their blood in the victims of their choosing.

hahaha, i just love how arrogant kain really is, mentioning that Vorador, who is talking about slaying several guardians of the pillars (a very impressive feet), is prattling on like an old decadent fool about some boorish account regarding just some event. an absolutely genius way of putting the very macabre scene at the beginning of the game into perspective; by now, we (kain and the player) are used to a lot worse!
It's wonderful how Kain later realises the depth of consequence that the killing of the guardians unleashed, when at the time he first learned about it he was bored and not paying attention

Hard to believe this game is 25 years old now, the epic beginning to an epic series that to this day unfortunately has yet to see a well deserved conclusion.
There was a fan game called Prodigal Sons showing the fledgling Raziel and his brothers fighting a war against Vorador and his vampire army for control over Nosgoth
eh. Vorador toyed with malek. He defeated malek later on with his powered up armor form. raziel being there to stall malek only meant vorador could mop up the other 6 much quicker.
soul reaver 2. In BO1 vorador defeats malek 2x and has no trouble doing so. malek gets 1 shot in, and after that vorador becomes a wolf and defeats him. If malek was able to over power vorador, then moebius wouldn't have been required later.
Gumba Gumba, Raziel opened the entrance to the Sarafan Keep using the Reaver, killed most of the Sarafan guard on duty, and stalled Malek from protecting the six Circle guardians.
One thing I never really got was how Vorador killed 6 members of the circle so easily. I mean yes he's powerful but so are the members of a circle and there were six of them great as you can see one of their spells failing , but I don't think they ever explicitly say why.
I figured that perhaps they needed time to prepare their spells and couldn't react fast enough to face Vorador. I imagine the circle was more effective while all 9 were present so that might be one reason why they couldn't handle Vorador. Especilly since their most powerful, Mortanius, wasn't there. Still, Vorador was stated to being able to kill any of Kain's mutated sons without use of the enviourment(like Raziel did) so it's not that inconceivable if you think about it.
very late answer, but the LOK franchise is one big time traveling menace. when vorador was attacking the circle, raziel was taking on his former self and his sarafan brothers. malek was preoccupied by moebius at that same time. moebius ofcourse having raziel troubles. so basically, vorador was incredibly lucky that raziel was doing the dirty work by taking out the defense line of the circle; the elite sarafan members. and no, the circle was not comprised of strong warriors at all. their vurnerability was the reason why they were forced to sponsor the sarafan war; the sarafan promised them protection.
Vorador is much older than the Circle of Nine. He was a swordsmith to the Ancients. He was apprenticed to those who wrote the book on the magic the human guardians were using. It makes sense that he could take them to the cleaners.
True it looks rough in comparison to what the kids are used to today. But what the kids of today don't have is the kind of amazing storytelling that we had in games.
Back in the day, we knew it was cgi was ugly as heck, but we were also aware of the consoles ´ limitations, and we were thankful for at least having games in 3D. So we put up with all the ugliness for the sake of playability and /or compelling stories.
The game is too old for a remaster. The assets aged way too much, merely upscaling them ain't gonna do jack. The game would need a full on remake treatment to look presentable in 2020 and beyond, and remaking this game from scratch would cost as much as any other modern open world game. That's a lot of money Square-Enix ain't gonna take a risk with.

Its interesting how the murder of the circle changes over the coarse of series. When first shown it appears to be a monster butchering innocents as a warrior arrives to late. When you encounter vorador here you're also a vampire so it becomes provoked retaliation by soul reaver 2 it's one move in a larger morally complex struggle.
Since the late Paul Lukather was amazing as the voice of Vorador, I don’t know who will voice him in the remastered pentalogy collection while Paul Lukather will still be in the games as a memorial Easter Egg so the fans will remember him. I mean there’s gonna be someone out there who sounds like there.
This game has the potential to be a great live action three part movie once it’s done right and stay true to the game with its unique characters and their back story it can be done

Close combat was Malek`s forte after all- he lived to kill enemies with his glavie and sword, he was chosen as a Conflict Pillar Guardian for a reason. But while we can scream "unfair"- and i would understand that- we have to remember, that vampires went with their change into monster EXACTLY because they wanted to be able to do more than humans... What would be the point, if you`d still limit yourself? Still, i tip my hat to Malek. He was a fanatic, but still capable knight, beyond imagination...
I love Vorador and Kain…. Didn’t like how V used that spell on Malek after a worthy battle… Vorador went through several powerful mages like they were nothing and Malek was putting up a scent fight… I would have let him live simply out of respect
think only the first two games (BO and SR, first in both) were awesome. Once they introduced all the other dimension garbage and tried to justify some of Kain's actions, well... I hated it, personally. Overexplained things, too many 'clever' coincidences (people tend to mistake that for great writing), and things that were better left to the imagination (like Janos), they couldn't help but introduce to the games and overemphasize. Not everyone needs to be key to everything... reminds me of the SWs prequels, showing you things that were much more effective left to the imagination. Just my opinion, of course.
Konoko2000 thats because Vorador was the one who forged the Reaver in the first place. For that, Janos gifted him with inmortality. Maybe he wanted a very similar sword for himself
oh wow and here im thinking he actually had the real blade. i was wondering how kain and vorador had the same blade, but they didnt. wow now the story is much less confusing hah.
