You may not have been able to save the Butler's son, Darmani or Mikau, but you were at least able to help to give their loved ones closure. It's bittersweet, but I would say it's the happiest ending they could have got.
@@harrystubbs713 its even sadder in the remake, because in here he kneels down looking at it which is already sad but in the remake he actually starts shaking in pain/disbelief when he finds him.
@Kagereneko That is certainly a more opptamistic way of looking at it but I never got that impression really. But hey, that theory is certainly as valid as mine.
I'm not sure why, but games like Majora's Mask where you have to power off the console after reaching the ending, no buttons to take you back to the main menu, have a weirdly special feeling to me. It feels much more satisfying, like "you're done here, your quest is complete. Time to go." It's tough to explain, it hits different
The 3DS remake continues the credits with a new rendition of Saria’s song and then takes you back to the menu. Just finished the original and I was surprised it didn’t do that.
"You guys... you hadn't forgotten about me?" "You still thought of me as a friend?" sums up what I fear the most in real life, that I'd do something to upset or annoy my friends, or worse, thinking that *they* upset, or angered me at first, but then realized that it was actually my fault from the start
"Your friends... What kind of... people are they? I wonder... Do those people... think of you... as a friend?" "You... What makes you...happy? I wonder... What makes you happy... Does it make...others happy, too?" "The right thing... What is it? I wonder... If you do the right thing... Does it really make... everybody...happy?" "Your true face... What kind of... face is it? I wonder... The face under the mask... Is that... your true face?" I finished replaying this gem an hour ago... These questions resonate deeply... Looking back I realize the great impact this game had in my life since my childhood.
It just hit me. The Happy Mask Salesman says that the masks you have are filled with happiness. But you might've given all of them to the moon children. All but 3, and you aren't guaranteed to have gotten the Fierce Deity Mask. He must specifically be referring to the Deku Mask, the Goron Mask, and the Zora Mask. So then that must mean that the spirits which inhabit those masks are filled with happiness. A good happiness. You healed them with the song of healing, and made them happy by preventing the ones they care about from dying. The Deku Butler, all of the Gorons who Darmani fought for, and Lulu and her children. I'm not sure why I never understood that before, but it really makes this scene stronger for me.
09:14 Breaks my heart every time. I always thought The Deku bulters son, as well as Darmani and Mikau would come back to life in the end, so it was a real shock when Nintendo decided to actually not give us a Hollywood happy ending, and make us realize that some tragedies are inevitable, no matter what we do. Just another reason for why Majora's Mask is my favorite game of all time.
@@goodost3933 Stole my comment.... You actually get to see how much Mido and the Zora King care about their family..... Mido actually tells Adult Link he forgives Live and to tell Link that he said that when he leaves because he does not know Link is not a Kokori
When I die, I want to wake up on the dawn of a new day in Clock Town, enjoy the carnival... then hop onto the Mario Kart Rainbow Road (N64) and race to Isle Delfino. Pretty sure that is heaven for me, I sure hope it is!
@@Agamemnon-w9x I dont think so since it appears to be in a different location... but I assume those rays of light that Link goes into is the portal to Hyrule. I'm not sure how he got out of Termina though
@@miserablepileofsecrets If that didn't happened then Link couln't be able to save Termina. Not everything is pink is Majora's Mask and that's why is so great.
In the beginning, I always thought the skull kid was the antagonist. As I played further, I realized that he was under the influence of Majora's mask and that we needed to save him.
Such wisdom and heartfelt words in just 3 textboxes, with the calming sound of a field and birdsong in the background. Moments like these are what make this game a masterpiece
"Whenever there is a meeting, a parting is sure to follow. However that parting need not last forever... Whether a parting be forever or merely for a short time... that is up to you."
When Anju walks out wearing the wedding dress I lost it.. I started sobbing mercilessly, which was made worse when the drawing of the Skull Kid and Link on the stump at the end :( such an amazing and powerful story.
You know, for doing choices like, getting Anju and Kafei together, you'd think they'd be undone after playing the song of time. But, even if you do go back in time, as long as you have achieved the couple's mask and finished the game, the deed won't be undone. Anju and Kafei still get married. The same goes for all of your actions, Lulu has her voice back, the Deku Princess is saved, the Gorons are okay, all of the deeds are not undone. The reason? Likely the masks themselves. The Happy Maskman said it himself; the masks are filled with happiness. Happiness that cannot even be shattered by temporal interference.
"Because he is the hero Hyrule deserves, but not the one it needs right now. So, we'll forget him, but he can take it. Because he's not our hero. He's a silent guardian. A watchful protector. The last Hyrulian Knight."
The first time i saw the deku butler watching that tree, i was like '':O !!!!!! IT WAS HIS SON !!! I was very shocked cuz i couldn't imagine that. FUCK ocarina of time, majoras mask it's the best.
The way they did all this is so powerful. The effect the butler and his deceased son had on me was very powerful. When he first notes that you remind him of his son is the first strike, but he doesn't exactly say that his son died. Then, seeing him there weeping in front of the tree you saw at the beginning, it just all comes right at yeah all at once when you realize that the Deku Mask is his son's spirit and that tree is his deceased son. It's very touching and you can really feel for him.
When you realize this Link saved the world 2 times and barely anybody knows that. Many years later he is just some random Stalfos that teaches a new hero some cool sword moves.
@@lytningthief I know, right? I always hated how they basically threw Link under the bus after the chaos was all over. Invite Link to the carnival, for crying out loud! Even if it's exclusively for residents of Clock Town, Link would definitely be the exception since, if not for him, they wouldn't even be having a carnival!
@@lytningthief tsundere personality. She's knows this is goodbye so she tries to sound as if she never cared about him, but as he rides away she reveals what she really meant. As she calls out to him shaking and says thank you. You can confirm how she sad she really was as Tael goes to comfort her.
Tati is basically an asshole, unlike Navi. She never really gave much thanks to him in spite of his hard work. But I still laugh as she still got sad when she realized.
A continuation of Majora's Mask would truly be great. To clarify if Link ever found Navi, I just wish they would actually make it exactly like this because this game owns. :'(
because no one mentions it: the ending actually changes depending on which mask you don't have. if you're missing any masks then the part of the ending tied to that mask is instead replaced with the mask you're missing rotating in a void.
Sableduo Gaming Regarding that my post was written just hours BEFORE Nintendo announced the remake, it is not only a big coincidence but the statement made absolute sense at that time. Oh, and you can check the time in the first post right under my name. So maybe we really have an idiot here, but it isn't me... ;)
Link doesn't need any of those things. He saves the world because that is what he must do, and he knows that no reward matters. Saving the world and making people happy is rewarding enough in itself.
I recently started to feel terrible for Link at the end of this game. After all of the things he did for the land of Termina, Tatl just up and kicked him out. It’s sad to me.
Who else agrees that there absolutely must be a sequel to this game? I remember beating this game when I was around 7 or 8, and I always wondered what happened to that Link, the best Link. I would love to see the Ocarina of Time and Majora's Mask Link come back in a future game with good graphics. I always thought it would be cool if Termina and Hyrule were in the same game and you could travel to both.
One of the things I always love is that in the beginning, when you're walking through the woods there's a dense mist surrounding Link and making his journey difficult, but at the end, he raises his head and the mist fades away, allowing sunlight to appear again. It feels like Link has overcome his struggles, and can finally go back home.
And thus, Termina was saved. Unfortunatly this victory was short lived, when they suffered a complete economic downfall. Some speculate that the leading cause seemed to have been Link using his power of time travel to commit bank fraud.
Me crying heartwarming tears of joy for the entire 8 minutes and then 9:08 is where shit hits the fan! I was bawling! The Deku Butler scene always puts this hard lump in my throat.. its heart crushing!
Yup, and it means all of Link's efforts of saving the world was all for nothing, just like in Ocarina of Time when Zelda sent him back to his childhood.
After so many years, I re-passed the game today. Seeing the butler's sadness over his dead son really got to me, but as soon as I heard the the lost woods theme along with the carved picture, I actually cried. I've never played a game in my life that gave me as much feels as Majora's Mask.
Greatest game of all time. This was the game that changed my life because I've never played anything like it. I still don't understand why people say OOT was better, but this game was better in every phase.
That image at 9:10 just breaks my heart. Out of all the Zelda titles, Majora's Mask has, by far, the most heart and compassion for its characters, and that's why, despite the amazing technical achievements of 'Twilight Princess' and the epic scale of 'Ocarina of Time,' 'Majora' will forever remain my favorite Zelda title.
I'm pretty sure (s)he's not talking about how the Happy Mask Salesman disappears.(S)He's talking about how right before he disappears, a mask the shape of his face appears on the back of his pack alongside the other masks. It looks like he took off his face as a mask.
The end scene at the wedding , the camera is positioned so that you are seeing through the eyes of Kafei looking down at his wife implying he's an adult again. Subtle and great storytelling
Honestly, i know this game didnt have many big bosses, but story and mechanics wise with the time loop and how events play out at certain times, makes this one of the GOAT game.
This game is super epic I remember I had to buy a expansion pack for my Nintendo 64 just to be able to play the game and I bought the book for it too and in my personal opinion you couldn't beat the game without the strategy guide and I'll give you one example why is because Link obtains a flute and on some missions you need that flute to play certain songs and the game itself doesn't show you the actual buttons/ music notes that you need to play and some songs require a lot of musical notes and there's a lot of task in general where you need the book so if you did beat the game without a strategy guide then you're pretty much a genius
HOLY SHIT, I NEVER NOTICED THAT!!!!! Seriously, that is fucking awesome, that's more or less proof that his appearance as a humble mask salesman is nothing but a disguise. Thanks for pointing that out for me, I've played through Majoras Mask several times, and just recently 100% it, getting every single collectible and heart piece in the game, and still I've never noticed that until you pointed it out for me! Thank you! :D ...Though I can't fathom why someone would see that as a glitch... :/
Sadly, this would be the Hero of Time's last adventure with us before eventually dying. But it would not be the last time we would see him. But that's a story for another time.
it is not 'rumored' that the hero's shade is a direct ancestor of TP link.. the hero's shade says it on the game.. and hyrule historia says they are blood related. so no.. link is not dead. we can even see him going back to the lost woods at the end of this credits 9:20
Such a depressing game, but very enjoyable to play. It's too bad that it is impossible to solve all of the problems in the game due to all the death that occurs before the game begins.
I think Saria's Song has a connection to Termina, or at least the Song of Healing. If you've noticed, the Song of Healing is Saria's Song played backwards.
Best game I ever played. I have played Ocarina time, Banjo Kazooie, Donkey Kong 64, Donkey Kong country, Halo, Conker's bad fur day and more! But I felt so emotional when I beat this game, only few games give me that feeling, COD definitely is not the game I am talking about( in fact it's shit) But the only other game who gave me the feels was FF7, Majora's mask is the best game ever.
I saw the entire game to be a bump in the road for Link. He defeats Ganondorf and goes in search of Navi where he soon falls into the land of Termina. The entire 3 day quest for me was all so he could finally go back to finding his friend. Being forced into a strange land so different from his own and having to save it from a terrible evil. Just adding to the reasons why he's the Hero of Time. Just let him go back home.
FINALLY this is explained to me. I just read about this and never noticed this part in the ending. NOW I finally know whose spirit was sealed within this mask. The whole "you remind me of my son" comment makes a hell of a whole lot of sense to me now.
At 8:25 I heard the music with earbuds that had only one headphone functional and it sounded low pitched. Actually sounds good once it gets to the opera singing at 8:41.
Those final seconds... ...Skull Kid was rejected by his peers and all the awful things that happened to him during the game. And Link was an actual Hylian and was not going to be welcome in the Forest without a Fairy. Yet, at the end...they were both Kokiri kids having fun with their instruments and childhoods. It's a beautiful (yet soulcrushing) connection between both Ocarina of Time and Majora's Mask.
So... did Link ever tell Lulu that Mikau’s dead. I feel like he did tell her. The scenario would be like this. Link: Hiya! Hut! Lulu: what are you saying, kid? Link: hut! Lulu: if you wanted an autograph you should’ve just asked. *Prepares to write and Autograph for link* *Lulu proceeds to hand Link the autograph.* Lulu: there you go, hope you come to my show. *Link then looks at the camera* Link: Hiya! *Link then puts on Mikau’s mask* Lulu: oh, now I get it. This was a lot more comedic then I thought it would be.
Also, how the fuck did the Deku Butler get back to that point of the game? Remember that the door in Clock Tower closes and stays permanently shut for the rest of the game, locking off that area.
link also get back.. we can see him on the lost woods from hyrule at the end, then he has a family and BUUM generations after link from TP comes to life
THIS IS HOW YOU DO A CREDITS THEME, ZELDA. Ocarina of Time's credits were just... no. Listening to previous songs is not rewarding, give an amazing new song.
Two of some of my favorite games, Mgs2 and Majora both came out in 2001, both were sequels to the 3d debut games of their series and both were kinda blacksheeps when they first came out because of stark differences (Majoras' time limit and Raiden in Mgs2) and both have jazz in their endings.
