A couple character lore notes- That isn't a duplicate Kanohi, it actually is 03 Makuta's mask. Icarax retrieved it after hearing about the whole Mask of Light debacle, from my understanding. He wears it well! As for his death, he probably went out in the most metal way any Bionicle character has. Through a combination of Gorast's mask power making his teleportation ability go out of control, and an energy blast from Vamprah striking him as he was phasing out- He exploded EVERYWHERE. His atoms were scattered from one end of the Matoran universe to the other. Wherever you go, you can take it for granted that a few of Icarax's stray particles are floating about. While his build is neat, I'm not sure it fits his character, since he's anything but nimble. "Terry's" plans are too complex for his taste, as Icarax is exactly the brute force "They won't know what hit 'em" sort. Huh.
A few notes from an OG bionicle fan/lorenerd - Icarax was ordered to retrieve the Mask of Shadows from the bottom of the ocean (the Piraka threw it in there after it shocked one of them for picking it up) by Teridax, and decided to wear it as an FU to his leader. Despite being supposedly the greatest warrior of the Makuta, Teridax easily curbstomped him the one time he directly rebelled, leading Icarax to be super petty instead (when Teridax became intangible after the Mask of Light, Icarax would claim his throne...not as the leader of the Makuta, just because). To be fair, Icarax, like Miserix, is one of the few Makuta with much-vaunted 'common sense'. Realistically, the odds of Teridax's plan working were very small, and the odds of him destroying the universe and everyone in it were pretty high. Basically, Icarax is a knock-off Miserix with 100 percent less dragon and 100 percent more pettiness.
@@taylorcorbett8848 Yup. After Makuta's 03 body was destroyed, the mask was just... left there until the Piraka chucked it into the ocean and Icarax had to pick it up.
Makuta Icarax is the Makuta of Karzinni. Makuta is base off a word that means witchcraft. And Karznni means hell in the Matoran Language. So that means that his title is basically this: The Witchcraft of Hell. Which is a pretty powerful name.
@@AllOutBrick I agree. The only characters that fought one on one is Makuta Teridax and the Mask of Life. Teridax just waited, taking lot of hits of hours, then after Icarax got tried, he then just straight up humiliates him like a wimp. The mask of life devolves Icarax , which cause all his organs to be crushed (imagine have every single part of your body being force crushed, and yet you still won't die.), causing him to scream in pain. The only reason why the mask of life didn't straight up killed him was because Icarax told him about the whole end the universe thing, which the mask of life decides to go warn the toa nuva about. And it took multiple Makutas to defeat him. After being devolved. Basically took Multiple Perfected All for Ones to hold there own against one original body All for One. The definition why Makutas are perhaps the most powerful species in lego original theme history.
I remember seeing this guy in Toys R Us as a kid, freaking out because I thought he was the ‘03 makuta, buying him in a flash, and then noticing when I got home that he had shadow leeches in his chest and was NOT the same.😂 Still loved the set!
Iirc, word of God states that Icarax was the most skilled melee fighter in the franchise. Not necessarily the most powerful or dangerous, but the best at throwing hands. I always thought that was pretty cool for a franchise where most of the fighting is done with the characters' powers
Which is weird given that looking deeper at the world overall, most species that aren't born with powers are limited to like using equipment with special powers, Kanohi or use a Rhotuka to unlock their one single personal power and use it. There is no real "magic system" in Bionicle aside from the Elements or what you were born with. Fun Fact: You can unlock Shadow or Light elemental powers by draining your Inner Shadow/Light like Roodaka did... That's really one of the only powers you can directly learn like a magic system.
In terms of "used condition" a huge benefit is that Icarax only has one "exclusive" piece, other than that nearly all his pieces are very common and parting him out shouldn't be an issue.
I got mine recently after finding out about his existence and was like “that’s the coolest looking Bionicle!” I made sure to replace all those blue pins with tan, grey, and black. Kinda wish they didn’t use those blue pins in the base set. Also, since he uses parts found in other sets from 2008 and other previous ones like Makuta, you can technically build him entirely from older sets.
Yes pinch the socket, I learned that trick it helps prevent pieces from cracking when you attach them. Unfortunately cracking joints are unavoidable, especially from this 2007 to 2010 Bionicle era
Gotta say, giving us Icarax the same year as the OG Toa characters was a great move. And Icarax himself is great - he invokes the '03 Makuta set without being a clone and is both similar and different just enough. Familiar, yet fresh.
The mask actually has less holes on the chin than the original, i imagine it's just something to do with the printing but I also think it works well in the story, as he is technically an usurper and that mask doesn't belong to him
I mean, not really, just super petty. He even retrieved the Mask on Teridax's orders, not so he could flex on his other Makuta. And he followed Teridax's lead (reluctantly) right up until the very end when he realized Teridax planned to kill them all.
In spite of this set being a Toys R Us exclusive initially, I personally don't remember seeing it there. Even then, I didn't have any Titan-size sets from the first half of 2008. As with Axonn (8733) from 18 months before, Icarax doesn't have any exclusive parts, though he is the only other set to have the Hordika upper arm in black. The weapon on Icarax's left hand marks the third of four appearances of the "Tri-Talons" from Ehlek (8920), though they also came in an "Exo-Force" set (8108) between then. It also contains the "Aqua War Blade" from Hewkii Mahri (8912), which also appeared in Mutran (8952) and the Rockoh T3 (8941).This is the second of three sets to have the Inika shoulder armor in Metru red, with the Jetrax T6 (8942) being the final appearance of them in that color. In addition, Icarax marks the final appearance of the Visorak feet in Metru red, leaving only the silver ones (which debuted with Roodaka (8761)) left in use after the end of that year...
Something quite interesting was the heels of my makuta icarax was dark grey, new out of the box, and yet I see most of them as black. Interesting I do love this set, definitely a nice display piece!
I had the set and disassembled it, and I never found any of those technic liftarms in black. Them actually coming in dark grey for me would make so much sense, thank you
Much love for the nostalgia you bring, if you don't mind a suggestion, one thing your videos are missing are comparison shots, they are extra work to include in, but would be nice to see visuals whenever you're comparing a set to another one. Great vids keep Mata Nui alive!
I was just thinking today, “Huh, no new Mata Nui Monday,” and then boom, you upload lol. Tbh I forgot this guy existed. 2008 really had a lot of sets that flew (get it) under the radar
If you buy this set When you create cracks I would recommend you To use nail polish Colors to match the parts Modge podge And glossom again As well as putting nail polish again.
id maybe say you should move the set around more in the reviews. like if someone was wondering how well the build for the legs articulate. they would have no better an idea from just looking at pictures
fun fact, icarax has a different kanohi kraakhan, on the opposite face function the mask has, icarax and teridax have a different amount of side holes to the front of the mask, one has 3 holes on the sides, the other has 2 holes on the sides (lore wise, icarax has teridax's kanohi kraakhan, but set wise it can be kinda decieving)
Definitely one of the most slept on sets and characters...and actually one of the few Makuta that is somewhat understandable. Though Miserix is by far the best, along with Melding!Teridax.
Dear All-out-Brick! I wonder if that's a black or pearl black kraahkan? I can't figure out if this set came with both colors or the pearl black belongs to the older teridax.
This is looks as cool as the og Makuta it’s not as huge but he looks like he’s really fast like you won’t be able to outrun him if you see him you’re already dead
