Wow. This is amazing to see. It looks so basic! LEGO has definitely come a long way.

I own this set and after finding your video today built the rocket for the first time in over 50 years! Just as you said it was difficult to accomplish due to the 55 year old pieces. I kept trying to trade out the pieces so they would stick but I could never find any red cylinder to stick on the bottom of the rocket. Clearly Lego has come a long way since the early 60's. Thanks for the great video.

Hey Jang, the oldest sets I have are the 1965 set (Europe) 020 and the (Europe) automatic garage door set for use with HO scale cars - the old set with a white base and red door unit and counter levers. I love your work with showing these old Lego sets from the early days. Keep up the good work of showing Lego

It's interesting to think that this was made before the moon landing in 1969! Also, I didn't know that lego made the macaroni pieces in the early 60's - I assumed they came later :D

I love seeing that older Lego sets aren't simple rectangle blocks plates. I rembered getting a Lego Alternative in the mid 90s that had 1x1 cylinders just like that also 4 high cylindrical columns. Thanks for the flash back.

wow a lego space set before the moon landing of 1969. those pieces don't have good clutch power do they. this set proves how far lego has come. people always say lego keeps getting more expensive. this set cost 0.98 USD in 1964. this set with inflation today would cost about $8 USD. $8 USD for 115 pieces. thats a bargain. there are some sets that cost more with inflation than the 10 cents per part price, and more expensive than what the same set would cost today. if the metroliner was sold today with inflation it would cost $239.52 USD. $39.52 USD more than an RRP cargo train set. think of that

em. Space race was at it's full power at that time and everyone knew what rockets are. Can't see why it's so strange to be released before moon landing.

A neat piece of LEGO history. I might try recreating this build using modern parts, with some improvements to make it more sturdy.

Lego bricks have really evolved sine then, in a major way! No one wants to play with a rocket that will break to pieces when you pick it up!

I always think of such pieces as "Santa hat" pieces because first time I ever encountered them, they were used as the back of Santa's hat in a poly bag set. Most recently I got them in the Destiny's Bounty set where they were used as the lower jaws of the dragon figureheads.

I am from the '60 (Europe), and was (probably like most 60th kids) besotted with space and rockets. I never saw/knew this set, but did my best to cobble together rockets not unlike this one (the 2x2 brick trick is new to me). Love your video's, but this one is just great! One thing that I had back then were the 4x4 round turntables. Not enough to build an entire rocket from, but enough to give it a top and bottom that was solid, and 2 rings in between that helped picking up the rocket without explosions. Well, yes, that of course was the other explanation for the rocket breaking up on touch. Rockets occasional exploded, didn't they? You would not believe how happy and proud I now am with a simple small Saturn rocked I can build these days i.imgur.com/bUvubQb.jpg?3 All from round brick 4x4 and even round 2x2 (!), with wonderful cones and strong enough to withstand me running around the room going BRRROEOEWAAAAH! and all!

Does anyone know of a round tile pice that can go on a 4x4 brick? I'm working on a Falcon 9 booster and I want to have some sort of flat tile above 2 of the "wall element round 5x4x2" (Design ID: 85941) I've looked all over bricklink and couldn't find anything.

@MrClassic. 6 лет назад
Wow. I've sometimes been wondering why today's cylinder bricks and round 1 stud plates aren't designed like that, maybe the main reason is to be able to put them between 4 studs?

This makes me think of Mega Bloks back 10 years ago. I was thrilled MB was making Star Trek stuff (cuz Lego never would *SIGH*) BUT the QC issues were horrible and the old minifigs were literally cheap Lego knock offs at best. For years I saw them take on new licenses and it was awesome that they were doing stuff that no one had done before then. Now fast forward to 2018 and while there are still a few QC issues the quality and originality of MB's sets (or Mega Construx now) rival Lego in many ways. So once upon a time, long ago, Lego sucked too haha Just imagine if building blocks can stay relevant for years to come MB may one day out sell Lego. You never know. I will say the minifigs saved Lego though... Who DOESN'T love classic space, knights, or pirates!?
