In this video, I compared the optical performance of 3 Noctiluxes from Leica (the f0.95, the f1 and the f1.2 ASPH). I also shared my thoughts on each of these lenses and some sample pictures.

Thanks for the great comparison with the three Noctilux lenses. It is very informative and delivered with great commentary. I have owned two of the E58 version and still have one--my only Leica lens which I love! I agree that the quality of the glass may differ, esp with the early Noctilux (both the 1.2 and 1.0 E58). If you give it a test shot or two before purchase, it could be informative. What I love best about the Noctilux are many but stand-out features are: low light photography, the bokeh, soft colors, and perhaps most of all the ability to place the focus on a small area of the subject while other elements of the image gently (or dramatically) fall off. Thanks again Jimmy. Looking forward to your next video of Leica!!

Thanks for the video Jimmy. Well done. I want to get a 50mm Noctilux but can never make a decision as they all have their pros and cons. In my opinion, I think the f1.2 is the best compromise, I just wish it was just a bit sharper wide open. Now if I can only find one at retail.

🙏 I’m glad you find it enjoyable to watch. Well, my personal favourite is the f1, as it’s quite sharp yet dreamy. The 1.2 with its size is my 2nd fav.

My first leica anything was the noctilux 0.95 lens, silver and Vienna 25 anniversary lens with the classic design of the focus ring and aperture ring. Have been loving it ever since.

Ah you’re so lucky, that lens must worth a ton now. You can do so much with a Noctilux!

@@JimmyCheng Thanks Jimmy, I got it for $12K from Austria Leica store, the price was right for a new in Box lens. I paid the extra $2K to get it, not a bad price for limited edition of which only 100 pcs were made, 50 to be sold on their own and 50 with matching M6 bodies. Now the production version is $12K! I see you like silver lenses too! They look great on an M body. Keep spreading the Leica passion! Love from California

@@ronitsingh85 Wow that's insanely good deal! usually special edition versions of Leica glasses cost much more than their normal counter part in the 2nd hand market. Thank you for your support! I love all things Leica :)

@@JimmyCheng at that time, 2017 I think this lens was priced at $18k, Leica store Austria advertised it for $16k on eBay, I connected and tried my luck at $12k, at that point I had decided to get the production silver lens @ $10k. They agreed on the Vienna edition and the rest is history. Lens is very well made and optically it is very fine, no corners cut on the optical perfection. It is really sharp at 0.95. Only issue is that purple fringing that happens but is rare. Yeah when that lens is on the camera, it’s basically ‘locked’ at f/0.95.

Great comparison Jimmy. To me the noctilux is not about perfect sharpness so the f1.2 or F1 seems the best fit. It would be interesting to see these compared to the most modern 50mm Summilux (asph)

thanks, Jacob. I agree with you 100%. I’ve also got the lux asph and I can tell you they are completely different beast. The lux is way sharper wide open and gives you very creamy background, so in short a much more modern rendering.

Hi Jimmy great review. Could you compare the Voigtlander 50mm f/1.2 vs Noctilux 0.95 vs Summilux 50 ASPH?

It’s great is all I can say. Used it extensively but do not have it in Hand right now. It’s very similar to the lux 50, a bit softer and a bit more fringing but half a stop faster. Start from f2 it’s almost identical. Oh it’s also got better bokeh from f2.8 onwards.

F0.95 if you like top quality sharpness and modern bokeh. F1.2 for the best noctilux look and bokeh. F1.0 for owning a noctilux at cheapest $. 😂
