20:01 Okay, I'm gonna stop after this. BUT I'm really learning so much from this woman right now. I love her compassion and wisdom. I haven't thought of our global economy in terms of this fundamental interconnectedness before. It really does cause a huge shift in my perception from them "vs. us" to "we". Thanks for this amazing interview. Only half way through but definitely am going to share this everywhere when done.

Even if it's not from a global perspective, economy is interconnected in your local village/town. The flowers you bought from your local boutique, the money you paid could have completed a sum of money needed for someone else's hospitalisation etc etc. That's why never ever hesitate to pay the amount of goods or services you need to buy because it could save someone's life. If you can tell them to _keep the change_ then the better

Thank you Marie and Leila for bringing this to the world. I am originally from Ghana and now here in the US. With the goal to go back in 10years to help entrepreneurs over there with what I know. Once my girls are done with college. I totally believe in empowerment than handout. Currently I sell hand made, hand painted Clay and recycled glass jewelry imported from Ghana. A business I am doing for my daughters. Being a cpa I totally believe in running a business for yourself even if you are employed by someone. These are made by the village women and I feel If I can bring more here to sell and also donate a portion of profit to help women initiatives together I think we can all help eradicate what Leila is calling for us all to do. Thank you very for this interview.

This is my first time hearing about Leila Janah or hearing her speak, and I am leaping and jumping inside because she has been able to skillfully and eloquently articulate with precise wisdom what I've wanted to say. It is a breath of fresh to hear this perspective being expressed. I look forward to reading the book. I would love to find out how our organizations can work together in the future.

I have heard that the measure of a person's intelligence is how much they agree with you. By this measure, Leila is BRILLIANT! She spoke of so many things I have come to believe! What I can do: Find ways to share these insights to local people in poverty.

Marie u rock, always bringing stuff, important stuff to my attention. When I need a reminder. I don’t want pity I tell the rest of this comment because I want u to see u touched my heart with this interview n reminded me that I have more then most. I just bought this house for 7k. 3bd 1 bath. It was in probate. No heat no hot water no electrical wiring. Scrappers (collected copper n metal to bring to scrap yards n get paid by the weight. I have done it so I’m not complaining) They took all the wiring in the house and metal in the heater they figured they could get money for. Anyway I’m rambling. Leila, reminded me in ur gals interview of this, I’m not sitting in a house with no heat or hot water. I’m sitting in my house with the potential for heat n water n a place to set up as a sales house to show what I can do with epoxy, (like resin rivers u see on RU-vid). Not to mention, when’s the last time sum1 bought a house this size for 7k. Luv bless n light my friends Sincerely MofE

God makes no sense when women like Leila pass away RIP while others who cause so much destruction continue to live. I only hope that somehow the impact that she made and the great loss of her departure influences enough hearts like a chain reaction that by one person's untimely departure, countless other people are empowered to live life to the full and make a greater difference. RIP Leila and blessings to your family

I'm so inspired, I'm working on becoming entrepreneur and it's so amazing that so many businesses and people like Leila helping people in poverty all around the world and within the states. I enjoyed every second of it. Interviews like this just unlocks many ideas that I would of not thought about on my own. It gives me hope that when we build our business we can also think about those in need and make them part of our world. Thanks again!

11:11 I love this response "As though a human born elsewhere, somehow has less value, than a human being born within our borders, that geographical proximity carries with it a stronger obligation to help is an idea I find repugnant, ENOUGH, a life is worth the same whether its a town in Africa, a refugee camp, a town in Arkansas, or Silicon Valley."

"We need to reorient our thinking about low income people to move away from thinking of them as recipients of handouts towards thinking of them as producers-as people who can actively contribute to the global economy." Yaaaaaaaaaaaaaas. Amen! I jumped up and did a church dance when I heard her say this. THANK YOU. This is a view that is all about true empathy and not "feeling sorry" for people. In my opinion, this is about true generosity. Love this and will be looking for a way I can get in on this action.

That was indeed riveting & an eye-opener! Truly inspiring and pioneering. So many takeaways but the main one for me was basically the opportunity on robotic training data & also how Leila balances non-profit and for-profit companies through empowerment & monetization of such communities. Thank you

This is so beautiful. I think the Universe sent you in my path today. I have been struggling with figuring what next I should do with my life. As a former pharmacist in US and a healthcare and business student one part of me wanted to just stay in the comfort zones of what I studied and worked with so far. But on the other hand another part of me wants to do exactly what Leila is talking about, to give work and opportunities to people in India ( since I have moved to India) -who don't usually have such opportunities. And to pursue non science related work. Thank you Marie and Leila for being my guiding light! 🙏🙏🙏🙏 And please keep on inspiring others with your great work! 💕💕 I hope I have the courage to expand and manifest my ideas Leila talked about sustainable long term solutions which I agree is what we need in the world. If each of us decides to start giving some meaningful work to people around us, we can indeed change the world. I always try supporting local businesses in my neighborhood and give some income to the street vendors here, exactly because I respect them for trying to earn a living and for the hard work they put in for their daily livelihood. But while I am helping out in a small way, I really want to create a long term employment for women and families who don't have good opportunities in life. And for whom life hasn't been as fair so far. And while creating the long term work, I want to make sure it's helping the environment and people in the community as well.

Thank you so much for this video. I LOVED that you brought up the rising demand for service workers in the field of aging. For those who feel nursing isn't right for you, think about pursuing geriatric social work! I am currently at NYU pursuing my MSW and specializing in gerontology. There is a LOT of fulfilling work to be done here. AND you can do this on a macro (administrative, policy, organization management) level or clinically (direct contact/face-to-face) with the aging population through therapy, connecting them to services as a case manager and even getting involved in a tech startup! Best of all, they are the most appreciative client group out there. It is never a thankless job and you gain immediate fulfillment every time you work with them :)

That is true the opportunities do not exist all over the world. Not even in places like my country, that is supposed to be rich. I am in a wheelchair and how hard I work it does not matter all people see is my wheelchair. All government sees is, she is in a wheelchair than she most mu mentally bad. I started B-school and I love it. But Than the government in Sweden lookt me in. Why? I am a 4 mom wheelchair lady how knows the internet. And therefore I am dangerous. Do I give up NO I am going to do B-school this year the last part of it and It does not matter if my and my family lives in poverty and are forced to be locked in a suburb of Stockholm. It is over 600 days since I get out the last time, 2 hours it was. People in prison have it better here In I have. But If I give up my life ends and my kids have no mother. Okay so am gonna comment a lot here. I just want to say that I hate how Marie segues into a new topic without a proper closure on the previous one. Maybe it's the editing but it's really annoying when they are talking about one thing and suddenly she leaps on another without closing the current conversation. I noticed this in a lot of other interviews. I hope Team Forleo sees this and have it corrected. It's not really a problem but scatterbrained people would find it hard to shift so quickly into new topics without prior knowledge that the other has supposedly ended

A lot of this hinges on the assumption that people on assistance are physically or mentally able to secure and maintain employment. People of color in the US are hindered by lack of health care (mental and physical) and significantly under-represented in receiving care that impacts success in traditional workplace. While this plan and idea comes from a place of caring, still tinged with an elitist mentality. Keep digging; def appreciate the progress and intent.

I doubt that person thinks Americans are better than Africans. I've seen people in Appalachia living on $40 day having it as bad as slums in India living on a dollar. Many people just think all Americans have more options when some do not and are not taught that they can be entrepreneurs.
