A guide to upgrading the Lenovo ideapad 330-14IGM SATA 2.5" HDD/SSD, DDR4-2400 RAM and replacement battery.
This is a relatively simple process requiring just a small Philips head screwdriver and a plastic pry tool.

Hi, thanks for the video! My son has one of these since Q4-2018 and I have upgraded from HDD to SSD SATA III 2.5" and RAM from 4 GB to 8 GB. I was wondering if has someone tried 16 GB DDR4 in this device? By specs it is limited to 8 GB but I have experience "overramming" up to 3 times the manufacturer´s maximum.

Nope. Probably best to put it on charge, but otherwise not really.

You can use the empty disk drive as an SSD, you just need an adapter and SSD

Hello, I have a question. Is there any caddy adapter to replace that plastic from the "cd-drive reader"?. I have the same laptop and I was wondering if i can just place a new ssd in that empty space and keep the other hd disk.

It seems it has the connection for the ODD in the motherboard. What concerns me is wether the space available is enough or not ofr the 9.5 mm Caddy. Worth the try thoug.

Hello, I have a similar laptop. It has a Pentium Silver N5000, 4 GB of RAM, and a 500 GB HDD. I only used 90 GB from the HDD. Sometimes booting up and opening any browser or Microsoft office takes a lot of time. Should I upgrade to SSD?

I have a 330-15IKB that has 8GB RAM installed. But its lagging a little since I Run CAD/CAM softwares fairly heavily. Would upgrading the RAM to 16GB, or switching to a SSD be better?

I would recommend doing 1st the upgrade to SSD Sata III 2,5" and then, if still not goog enoug, try the 16 GB DDR4 RAM upgrade.

Hello James, I have the same laptop model and its tiring me out cause its so slow and always logging. Do you think it's alright if I update the bios? It's in the critical updates in my lenovo vantage. Or do you happen to know other way tyo resolve the issue? Thanks.

I doubt that would make a significant difference. Does it have a SSD or HDD in the model you have?

Upgrade to SSD if you have HDD to boost performance a lot, then add more RAM if you need.

Why I see so many videos about replacing the HDD for an SSD and not just adding the last one to the free "optical" port/bay that this model has? What's the powerful reason behind not to keep both?

Maybe because it comes without ODD, not sure if a 9.5 mm or 12.5 mm Caddy would fit and work properly...

I think the best option is tu use an USB 2.5" Enclosure for your HDD to be used as external.

No mSATA or M.2 drive slot, just a 2.5" SATA connector. In models with an optical drive you can fit a 2.5" SATA caddy in its place to add a second drive.

Hello Sir, I'm going to upgrade this laptop model's HDD by an SSD. Considering this laptop has only one memory slot, does it worth to upgrade replacing 4GB by and 8 GB module? I mean will I see a better performance? or just replacing the hard drive should be enough to run Windows 10/11, Chrome and some light apps smoothly? Thanks a lot.

Going to an SSD from a mechanical HDD will have a much bigger impact than upgrading the RAM. If you have 8GB (2 x 4GB) then going to 12GB won't make a huge difference in most scenarios.

I bought a Timetec 480 GB SSD and I'm trying to perform a Windows 10 install on it but installation program is unable to partition or format and it cannot continue to copying files. Is it anything else needed to prepare SSD before a clean install? Thanks a lot.

Windows 10 and MS Office will fit on 120GB, but it really depends what else you want to put on there. I don't fit smaller than 240GB typically these days.
