Try Krisp for free and enjoy clear audio! krisp.ai/?ref=jarrodstech 0:11 The RTX 3070 Ti on the specs should be 125-150W, as is the case everywhere else. 2:14 Nvidia driver 512.15 apparently fixes the advanced optimus brightness issue (came out after the review was made) however I have tested this on the 5i Pro and confirmed that it does not fix the issue.
Can you please review on the ASUS TUF Dash F15 (2022)? Because the 2021 version had 4-6 cores so there's a big difference between last year and this year
Hey jarrod, i have just discovered how to (may be) fix the screen dimming issue when using advanced optimus dgpu mode. The solution here is to go in to window setting and display setting and turn on HDR, simple as that :)). The screen now go back to 497 nits(on my legion 7i 2021) and it's also apply the hdr effect like on optimus but the screen is now at maximum brightness like default, hope you check that out if it's work on your legion models.
Recieved my Legion 7 (5800h, 3070) and i love it! Changed RAM to 2x16Gb 2Rx8, put 2tb SSD and using it with external 3840x1600 monitor 👍! Found guide where now i can enable or disable `turbo boost` feature in power plan settings (there are guide via registry) and now my CPU is working at 3175mhz all cores, temps dropped by 15`C and on LOW settings at ext monitor resolution in BF1 and BFV temps are 67`C GPU, 72`C CPU 👍 at 80-120fps (G-Sync is Enabled too) ❤! GPU is using 115w power (Silent mode) and with CPU turbo boost disabled, when i change to Performance mode - ONLY GPU power changes to 130W+ 👍! P.S. My laptop display got some white spots at down side of screen, i think its from plastic frame but i can see them only on black screen, so its ok! Tested temps with closed and opened screen - the same (mby 1`C difference). One VERY big cooons - i need to open laptop to turn it ON...no button on side (like some other laptops have)... Looking for option (mby Wake on LAN via my mobile phone) but havent time for this... Jarrod, please make good guide with soft for android HOW TO ENABLE Lenovo Legion laptop via WAKE ON LAN option.
Hi Jarrod You videos on laptops are Over-Complete . But very less people can afford this costly laptop/s . Please try to consider thought of students , they need more budget friendly mid range (gaming) laptops costs between 1000$ - 1100$. Even a low spec model of Lenovo Legion 2022 is not between this price range.
@@igo1558 the legion 5 2022 has ascended to the midrange not budget anymore due to the magnesium alloy built so that spot now is left to the Ideapad gaming 3 of lenovo
JRod, the way you dipped the screen brightness of the edit as you spoke about it on the laptop is just one reason why this channel is the business. Every video is becoming more refined!Legend.
For this class of desktop replacement laptop, I'd rather have an overspecced PSU than an underpowered one even if it increases the carry weight so I agree with Lenovo's reasoning for bundling the 300w supply.
@Chicken Does Not Talk we aren't only speaking about 5i, think about a legion 7 with unlocked ryzen 9 or i9 cpu and add 170-180 watt 3080ti to it, idk you but in recent years laptops become so much powerful that people begin to choose portability and not losing that much power
Yes it's a minor inconvenience but at the end of the day makes a huge difference in overall performance and doesn't really matter because it's on the floor out of sight
Glad Lenovo employed the "if it ain't broke, don't fix it" method with this device. There are some bugs, but this appears to be one of the best laptops of the year. But if gaming is the use case, last year's model at a discount would be preferable
@@jamesw2831 new Model isn’t priced as high as Jarrod Says it will be but there is a cost up for DDR5 and a big cost up for 3070ti. Intel CPU is ok, AMD pricing went up
I've personally used Krisp during a few online interviews and the noise cancellation is actually really impressive. It didn't block all of the background noise for me, but it made my voice seem clearer so I consider that a win.
That Krisp sponsor was pretty fun and original, love to see personalized ads! Last year there were issues with the HDMI 2.1 port, as while it was capable of 4k 120hz, it only managed it in 8-bit color rather than 10-bit, due to bandwith limitations. Has it changed? (I don't think it's a huge issue, but it's still something to keep in mind).
@@JarrodsTech thank you. Same as the 2021 models then. Lenovo has said it is because the hdmi lanes are split between the built in display and external display and there is no way to completely disable the lanes to the internal display.
Yes!!! Finally!!! I just got amd Legion 5 Pro from last year with RTX 3070 for $1399 from Walmart online, thinking it was too good of a deal to pass up because I was afraid Lenovo would want $2k+ for this year's Legion with 3070ti, and you just made me feel A LOT better about my purchase! Thank you!
THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR THIS COMMENT... Thank you thank you... Because of you I got the same deal.. Bought mine and it was afterwards immediately out of stock. Thank you once again... I just hope it does not have any quality control issues on delivery
I'd love an additional gaming measure: fan noise level and surface temps in the different performance modes after 30min of idling in a demanding game like Hitman 3 in native resolution and max settings. This would help a lot understanding the usability of the laptop for gaming. The stress test measures are worst case measures that do not really reflect what we will get in everyday usage.
Much more detail review than 2021 model keep it up, our man Jarrod did amazing review in this Laptop I swear there's no one beat Jarrod in case of Laptop review, EVER
Jarrod if you go into the Nvidia Control Panel and go to the top under the "desktop" menu you can place a GPU "selector" into the hidden icons on the taskbar. Must easier and more convenient way to switch GPUs on the fly since NV Control Panel can take awhile to open sometimes.
Thanks to you help I picked up last year’s model of the legion 5 pro. It’s been great. It’s money we’ll spent. I upgraded the Ram and installed more storage. Thanks very much.
This is the definitive review channel. Bookmarkee subscribed liked belled. Not a single other review channel go to as much detail as at once, and not a single other review even mentioned to which GPU the ports are connected.
I bought this exact laptop in early March from the Lenovo UK store for 1750 GBP (without any codes applied, others have got it for as low as 1480 GBP) and I am just amazed at how well it performs. Everything is lightning quick, the laptop has 0 QC issues (apart from a slight trackpad rattle in the bottom right hand corner) and the gaming performance is incredible. The screen is gorgeous, the keyboard is great, fan noise is basically non-existent and the laptop looks like a professional device (maybe apart from the gamery feel of the backside where the ports are). For anyone considering this laptop who wants to ask any questions that Jarrod may not have covered feel free to ask!
@@TrackDaysDude Fan noise is barely audible even with multiple (15+) chrome tabs open. On idle it is silent and even when under load the fan noise is more than tolerable both intensity wise and sound wise (no whistling or high pitched noise). Of course quiet mode makes it even quieter but I find it slows down everything slightly. Not by much, it's just things aren't instant when under load as they are in auto or performance mode.
@@Klav1eR None at all, the performance continues to be amazing. My only complaint is the shockingly bad battery life. Battery lasts maybe an hour with battery saver, 60hz, low brightness, integrated graphics etc. Personally I use it as a desktop replacement and move it around from time to time (from my house to my girlfriend's for example) so I'm okay with the battery life but it would be nice to have the option of going somewhere without a power supply and being able to use my laptop. Enjoy, it is an amazing laptop!
Watching on my Legion 5i i7 RTX 2060 2020 version, still looking brand new and having a smooth gameplay on Elden Ring. Will gonna buy Legion again next year gen or even 2024-2025. I think every year's Legion's laptop will gonna last you 4-6 years and still stay relevant.
I just bought this exact spec, as an upgrade from my MSI GL72 72 GTX 1050ti that’s finally become too obsolete to enjoy. As well as the W button no longer working (No retreat) I can’t wait to see the difference between the two. I imagine it will be quite the experience. Thank you for the review.
Anticipating a 2022 m16 asus and 2022 g15 asus review. Maybe a comparison video regardless if they're made or not I like to watch these videos. They're very informative and helped me out.
This laptop has been great for me so far! The only gripe I have is the refresh rate toggle. Lenovo's 'Fn+R' doesn't work at all even when the panel has the ability to run at 60Hz and 165Hz, and it gets quite annoying having to launch Nvidia Control Panel to change it every time (Especially when you take it off wall power a lot). I had to download HRC Resolution Changer to resolve it with a macro.
@@TrackDaysDude I don't use Chrome personally as it eats way too much RAM for my liking. But no, there's little to no fan noise when using applications like Chrome that aren't heavy on CPU/GPU usage. If you're watching a 4K stream on Chrome or something, you may hear the fans turn on, but it won't be loud at all
@@TrackDaysDude Lenovo seems to use the same fan bearing as last year's, with improvement on blade fin size, so yeah the fan IS AUDIBLE on idle, you can hear it, but barely, only audible in a dead silent midnight, But beware, there's a wide spread complaint of a very audible high tone Humm coming from the fan bearing when it spin at its lowest rpm, it is confirmed to be a defect and Lenovo will replace it for free. I am one of those unlucky ones with problematic touchpad and audible Humm coming from both fan, I brought it to Lenovo service center and so far its been normal, touchpad working great, and the fans isn't giving me high tone Humm noise anymore, it's still spins at idle though, still giving me a barely audible whoosh noise, I don't mind it though, great laptop nonetheless
My legion 5 pro just came in the mail yesterday. After more than a month of researching different laptops I’m proud to say that this has been one of the best decisions I’ve made technology wise. Installed two 2tb ssds and put windows 10 on it and it runs great
If it's the intel 12th gen model then you might actually be losing some performance since Windows 10 doesn't knows how to work with the hybrid architecture of the P and E cores of 12th gen as well as windows 11 does.
@@tryfergoodra552 honestly my girlfriend uses it more than I do to play dying light 2 on our tv so I can’t really tell you the exact temp but I know the fan isn’t really that loud if it’s not the only thing making noise in your room lol. It’s been very reliable and I haven’t ran into a problem yet
For latencymon, maybe you can test an old laptop that was initially tested with windows 10 and do it now on windows 11. I think that will be a pretty solid proof of problem with windows
I got the 3070ti version with 2tb SSD and 16gb DDR5 for $1850 before tax with a promo coupon and military discount. Seems pretty close to the price you referenced for the 3050 model that was listed. Makes me feel like I got a great deal, but I am not super computer literate. It arrives in 3 days, I'm excited to see how it is! I'm replacing a 4 year old MSI GE 72 Apache Pro... no matter what it is a huge upgrade! But it was definitely tough deciding between this and some of the ASUS offerings!
@Crispin Alexander omg I never replied I'm sorry. I LOVE IT! Have been able to enjoy really taxing games at ultra settings and it is light enough to be mobile when I need to work on the go!
i got 5 Pro with 3060 and 5800 Ryzen with 32 g of faster RAM you suggested Jarrod, i absolutely love it!!! Playing my favorite games on my traveling on highest settings still. Never been so satisfied with a laptop and i had amazing selection in the past From Alienwares to ASUS G series etc been there done that but Lenovo rocks!!!
I have the lowest specs of the legion lineup in 2021. legion 5 with Ryzen 5 4600h+gtx1650ti+512ssd. and it is a great pc and I will NEVER replace it only for another member of the Legion family.
lenovo prices their kit artifically high so they can provide coupons afterwards. I don't love this policy but at the same time I like the way they have frequent promotional coupons/codes that usually to all products from a segment (e.g. gaming laptops)
I am quite meticulous about laptops and I would have never guessed that Wi-Fi antennas at the front would hinder performance by that much. Seriously awesome review. 😃😃😃😃😃
I bought this model with the i7-12700H and RTX3070 Ti in June from Lenovo UK and discovered the LCD display to suffer from really bad IPS Glow and screen bleeding. The machine overall is good apart from the screen issue. However I really need to emphasize that Lenovo is really bad with their customer service from the onset of purchase up to dealing with my issue with the LCD screen. It is a shame because the laptop is a solid machine but Lenovo as a consumer company is utterly shambolic. They had me waited more than a week to deliver the laptop after purchase while they promised next day delivery. I contacted them about the IPS Glow and they sent a technician to my address to carry out repair. Long story short, it took them three attempts and on the last attempt their technician ended up scratching my laptop and leaving bulges on the bezels. To top it off, I sent the laptop to them under premium care to get it fixed and the received the laptop a week ago and have not started work and ignoring my emails. A fair warning to everyone, avoid LENOVO if you don't want to go through this nightmare.
Excellent review! This review convinced me to purchase the Legion 5 Pro 6800H + 3070Ti! On an interesting note, advanced optimus appears on the spec sheet of the AMD version, but I haven't been able to turn it on for both the models I've had, even following your video ):
Optimus should be on be default generally. Here's some info on my website on how to turn it off in Vantage: jarrods.tech/how-to-turn-off-optimus-on-your-gaming-laptop/#Lenovo
hi Jarrod, I notice that last year's 5 Pro has the Fn+R shortcut to change the refresh rate from 165Hz to 60Hz for longer battery life, but there's no mention of that shortcut in this review. So my question is that does this year's iteration have that shortcut or not?
Hey Jarrod, absolutely loved the Video! Just one short question, is there still the Fn + R shortcut to set the refresh rate of the screen to 60 Hz, and if yes did you do the battery testing with the screen set to 60 Hz?
Were those bugs ever fixed? Also, is just under 5 hrs for RU-vid video playback really the best things 80whr battery can do? Is that with power saver mode turned on in BIOS, with FN+Q, and Windows power setting? I'm wondering if undervaluing/disabling turbo would help. Also, was this at 60hz, or higher refresh rate?
Fantastic review! Wow. I’m torn. Get this 5i Pro or the Eluctrolux MAX-17/Aftershock Viper 17 (which comes with the i9 CPU for a little cheaper in price)?????
Thanks for an excellent review Jarrod! Can we expect a review of the 1920x1200 version of this laptop though? I'm REALLY curious about it's battery life and screen quality. That's the model I'm aiming at.
Cheers, unfortunately I rarely get sent different configurations of the same model, so not sure I'll ever get data on it. If I do somehow get it I'll upload the data at jarrods.tech/list-of-laptop-response-times/
One big problem I had with the Lenovo Vantage GPU modes was that the Hybrid and Performance Modes makes the GPU unusable in Photoshop, Illustrator, and Premiere Pro. I had to put it on Balanced Mode and uncheck that additional option. Took me awhile to figure out that those GPU modes were the culprit.
@@StefanUrkel Why? I don't have the tech knowledge for that one, lol. My best guess is that Photoshop cannot recognize it for some reason. Is it a bug? I sure hope so. I'm thinking it's partly on Lenovo and partly on Adobe.
Don't know if anyone will see this but is getting the Lenovo Legion 5 Pro with 5800H and 3070 worth it in 2022? There's some fairly good deals floating around and not sure if the newer gens w/ Windows 11 problems and no markedly better performance makes it more worth to go w/ a last gen model
Regarding I/O, let me get this straight. The Thunderbolt 4 input is only connected to the integrated intel graphics so if you wanted to hook up a dock, it wouldn’t necessarily support external monitors if you were running off only the dGPU? And when running hybrid, what resolutions/refresh rates can you expect running off the iGPU? Or can you plug in the dock to one of the usb-c (usb3.2 gen2) ports and run off those since those are directly connected to the dGPU? Does this mean the only real purpose of the tb4 port is for connecting to an external tb3/4 storage device for faster data transfer and not necessarily for docks? Seems like they should’ve had the tb4 connected to the dGPU instead of the usb-c (USB3.2 Gen 2) ports?
Jarrod what is the actual TGP of 3070 Ti in this L5P since at the beginning you showed up to 140W and in charts it states up t0 150W. What was the max that you saw? Asking because if it is really hitting 150W and 3070 is only up to 130W in my L5P 2021 than those few FPS are not that great considering it is using 20-30W more (my L5P 2021 is rarely actually staying at 130), plus temps and fan noise going up.
Do you anticipate the prices of the 30 series going down further? I'm about to pull the trigger on Legion 5i Pro Gen 7 Intel (16”) with RTX 3070 Ti, i7, 32 gb RAM and 2 tb storage but it's a little over 2K. I'd love to save a bit more money-unless this is as good a deal as I'll get.
Can you please explain Battery Performance Mode and how it works? I've noticed that disabling it reduces temps by about 10c! But does disabling it have a noticable effect on game performance?
hello jarrod , thanks for this video I hope you anwer my comment ASAP I found legion 5i pro with intel hd card, RTX 3070 Ti how does that compare do Nvidia GeForce RTX 3070 Ti? Should I buy the laptop if its intel HD?
I am ignorant so help me out: If connecting this laptop to an LG C9 (which has hdmi 2.1), could I expect to see the same FPS on most games provided I use 1440p resolution? I want to play an RTS by doing this but am unsure if I’ll lose performance versus just using the laptop itself. Thanks 🙏
Jarrod should I pay extra 400$ for this year's 5i pro or get last year's 5i pro both of the laptops got same gpu (3060) ? Are the cpu performance gains worth that price bump?
hey Jarrod - what are the power settings you use when testing RU-vid playback? I have the same model with Vantage set to Hybrid-iGPU and cant get anywhere close to 296 mins of RU-vid playback in terms of Battery Life :(
Hi Jarrod. I'd like to suggest you add the info about fan speeds on the fan noise section. That would also help up determine if our unit's fans are performing as intended.
