Mostly just sys admin stuff/running test VMs, its overkill I know, but its fast overkill! Never any performance bottle necks.

Guy Random standard rack server board :D. The ones I build with yet had 24 DIMM slots! :3 1,5TB RAM is pretty amazing to install... :D

Workstation hardware is generally better built with more checking while it heads down the assembly line. It generally comes with a better warranty. The big thing, however, is the fact that this kind of hardware comes with drivers that are made to work with and checked with many of the large 3D modeling, Video Editing, etc. companies and their software. Workstation GPUs can play games, but are better suited for the above. These benefits are why workstations cards usually cost a lot more too!

Primary difference between what you and I would normally buy and a workstation component that can cost 10x more is validation. Each part is designed to operate just about 24/7 rendering or code crunching. The chips are designed with a higher tolerance to what the consumer level chips can do. Plus most workstation components like GPU's and CPU's are not overclock friendly. So for example you made a video and are now in the process of editing, it's going to go a lot smoother and when it's time to render it's going to go much faster then on a consumer level PC that's primary focus is video games. These machines are purpose built where our machines are really general purpose built. Hope this makes sense to you!

JaytechGaming the hardware isn't exactly better it is more expensive yes but gaming on workstation hardware is very awkward since no geforce driver's lol and many other factors but work station hardware is really just designed for large workstation loads. gaming hardware is for gaming and will do a lot better job than what workstations hardware does for gaming

Yes, Lenovo workstations, desktops and laptops have taken over IBM's "Think" series.

CutThroat192 Lenovo aquired the whole IBM PC Business several years ago. They got all designs and trademarks, thats why it is almost identical. IBM did a really good job designing their stuff so Lenovo obiously mantained it.

Yeah, honestly I can't believe someone didn't look at it and think- hey, maybe we should change the case's exterior before launch. Especially when considering the price, they could have at least hired a designer to make something look decent.

Andrew Russell I think they look pretty odd and unrefined. Almost looks like a prototype. I have a Phanteks Enthoo Evolv and have dabbled with numerous other cases and this pales in comparison to all of them. Something like a Define R5, Bequiet silent base, or arc midi r2 would have been much nicer. It really is personal preference, but I can say most people would rather a slightly striking and refined look over a utilitarian, unfinished look.

Daquan Jr. This is the classic Lenovo look, and generally people who would be buying a prebuilt system care more about performance than looks. Also fancy cases are usually easier to scratch or deface and take more room. I imagine a company buying these for their office where this more subtle look is more appropriate and blends. It's a more industrial look. And personally I'm not a fan of Define R4 or R5, the tops are so ugly. I have an Enthoo Luxe which replaced my Phantom 410, a Rosewill Challenger, Elite 110, Source 210, Core 1000. I like minimal but with a little spark. Friends have R4, R5, Node 304.

The price is heft because these machines are built sturdy, with upgrades in mind, and built to last wit high end, high grade components that shouldn't hardly ever fair. Which is essential in a workstation environment.

These machines are made to support a workload that you couldn't possibly comprehend, that's why they have purpose built parts, and are inspected and check every stage of the way. You simply don't understand, but that's ok, but don't just go touting your wrong opinion about gaming on a machine that the only game its ever gonna see is minesweeper.

Lol good luck using consumer components for workstation needs, that's just rich. You'd probably replace that rig in under four years. Meanwhile my dad is *still* running his IBM ThinkCentre 8193-XX7 from 03'. Built like a tank, never crashed, and still at a level of quality that you can't even find today in consumer products (especially when you're trying to use experimental cards instead of actual productivity cards good lord). YOU might not need it, but businesses are running a legit operation that loses countless amounts of revenue whenever there's downtime. Btw it's Crysis, and no it doesn't run on the ThinkCentre.
