Just got mine two weeks ago and I could not be more satisfied. I went from a macbook pro to this one and I am NEVER going back. Just the keyboard alone is amazing. I can`t believe how they got it this good in such a slim laptop. Got the low powered 1080p model because battery life is a priority with me and the battery really lasts all day. I charge it once a day, but even then it`s not out of battery.10/10 to the review and the x1.
Thank you for providing this valuable service and though I don't often watch any more I'm glad that you are still making comprehensive and unbiased reviews.
Mine came about a week ago. The battery sucks but everything else seems great. I get about 4 hours @ half brightness with normal everyday computing. The keyboard is soooo much better than my MacBooks. It is extremely fast.
Don't, I was serious Lenovo believer in last 15 years. Last year I bought T580, it's SSD failed mid June and after more than 7 support tickets I had to send it back to Lenovo two days ago for second time. Their customer service is absolutely unsatisfactory and new laptops are not built with same quality of older one. My SL500 still works! But it's not the case any more. This was my 4th and last Lenovo
Same! X1C6 could definitely use better speakers but it’s rare I’m not using either a better desktop set, or headphones. I use my microsd slot all the time so I wouldn’t like to lose that.
For those who is really looking for a new laptop, the 4k display drains a lot of battery. The total battery life is less than 6 hours with quite a light usage. Also, the GPU feels pressure to support such a 4k display. I can feel apparent refresh delay/latency when switching tabs in Excel (less than 800k Excel, not a big file).
Came across your channel while researching new laptops and gotta say that your reviews are really good, concise, and to the point. Looking forward to the next videos you release.
X1 7th gen is nice, still use it to this day. Had some hardware issues with the 4K screen, but Lenovo fixed it (that said the support experience was absolutely terrible but in the end it now works again)
@Fizzbuzz I paid 13000 DKK which is 1379 USD. I chose this model, with i5, 16GB mem and 256GB disk. Now it has dropped in price I can see. www.proshop.dk/Baerbar/Lenovo-ThinkPad-X1-Carbon-7th-Gen/2791581
I love your Pie t-shirt. where do you get your shirts from? They are always super awesome. As a tech geek myself, I appreciate the added humour these give to your videos!
My daughter has said she's wants met to recommend a PC ultrabook when her Macbook dies. The ThinkPad X1 is going to be at the top of the list. Thanks for a great review !
Folks, I just found Lisa and correct me if I'm wrong, but is she the best out there on RU-vid for laptop reviews? She just convinced me to buy this laptop. Thank you Lisa.
i was going to post an obnoxious comment about who uses SD cards anymore...then i thought of it and there is a LOT people that still use them...i have this computer still has a lot of ports though...hehehe
Will you be getting the P1 (Gen2) in for review. I'm doing an engineering course and the ISV certification, 9750H and quadro card are very enticing! Great, unbiased review as always :)
I saw either previous year's model or this year's at Costco for around $1300. It had the i7, 16gb RAM, and a 512 gb SSD. I was seriously looking at that one. I think it was the 1080P display; I know it was touchscreen, but it didn't look like 4k.
Great review, ordered & now received laptop. I did not go for the HDR400 UHD screen, opted for the wqhd. which is really good, and too me a better compromise of screen/battery. I am switching from MacBook pro's to Lenovo. Its a great laptop and pretty much meets all needs. My last Thinkpad was a 600x in 2000 (showing my age here). The new keyboard is not unto the old ones, but maybe its just looking back with rose tinted glasses. little more flex in keyboard, but still much better than the 2014 MacBook pro's offering. deffo thumbs up :)
X1 Yoga 4th gen vs XPS 13 2 in 1 7390 would be hugely helpful too! Looking forward to that Yoga review. Are any of its screen options matte? Lenovo's "AR/AS" terminology is quite confusing. Would be great to break down the processor options too (i5 8265U vs i5 8365U for example!) Thank you for providing the best tech reviews anywhere on the internet!
The 4K display is a mistake. Battery life rules all with ultrabooks, and 4K at 14 inches is overkill and not worth sacrificing the battery. They should have just made a more beautiful WQHD. Hate to say it but waiting to see what Apple has on offer
7Write4This9Heart7 5-6 hours of battery for a 2019 top of the line ultra portable laptop does not cut it, especially with hot garbage windows 10. Not good for developers. Love the keyboards though
7Write4This9Heart7 16 inch will have 3k and better sw than windows, and Apple never skimps on battery. Hopefully it’s a good option, and hopefully an option for no discrete GPU
@@michaelthompson7217 Well, yeah, I get that, but I blame 4K (and being too thin for bigger battery) for that. I'm sure if you put Linux on it something it would be better. The keyboards are def awesome!
7Write4This9Heart7 the issue with Linux though is that it’s not optimized/configured on a lot of computers and chews up battery. I love Linux but if (you can’t already tell) battery is super important to me. I think XPS is probably best for Linux right now. I wouldn’t be surprised if you put Linux on this 4K bad boy if it dropped down to 4-5 hours battery
much better buy than the macbook pro or surface laptop more ports and you can upgrade the already fast samsung ssd, the other 2 give you slow 128gb ssds to start and basically no ports or display options.
Order it from Lenovo now and you might get it in time for the 8th gen. I have been waiting over a month for my X1 extreme gen 2 and the ship date got pushed back yet another month last week.
Ali Ahsan, the same here: number keyboard is an absolutely must for me in laptop. And in Lenovo numeric keypad is full-fledged, not cut as in Acer or Asus, where there are only three columns 789, instead of four - 789+, as in Lenovo.
Oleg Exactly Lenovo has the beat Keyboard in the Market. Great Key travel. Can you suggest any-other Lenovo think pad laptop with full size keyboard under 1000$ ?
Unless you really care about speaker audio (which i think most people don't) I highly recommend to get a gen 6 on sale. Gen 7 has better speakers but you pay for that with slightly smaller battery and slightly worse keyboard (reduced key travel), both of which are key aspect of a business laptop. Not to mention, obviously, more money. Oh, and as far i've seen from several benchmarks, performance are barely any better than gen 6 so don't worry about that.
I got mine with 4K and i7, returning it for an i5 and 1080P. Can’t stand the battery life on the 4K model and the i7 is definitely not necessary for what I will be doing
I do love my Thinkpad Yoga but I'm reluctant to go back to Lenovo because it's the second Thinkpad I've own that gets stuck in a reboot loop after Windows updates. Very annoying.
Waiting for Thinkpad x1 carbon to get dedicated graphics like MX150/250. If Razer can fit that horsepower in a more compact 13inch chassis then Lenovo can do that too.
why not get an X1 extreme then. I really don't see how they can fit dedicated graphics in 1.13 kg X1C when they've alrerady run out of space to trim to get as closer to 1kg as possible.
Given the lack of expandability within I wouldn't exactly be a device I am geared to, but unlike your typical Apple laptop you can at least easily replace the battery and it's cheaper. But unfortunately Lenovo has taken too many corner cutting cues from Apple that renders it a poor value in my view and that seems to get worse and worse with each generation as they had done with the T series. Don't get me wrong I think the build quality is alright but the lack of serviceability and mild keyboard flex only enforces the image I am drawing here. For the money there are far better options.
Are you going to review the T495? Would be nice to see comparison between that and T490. T495 is somewhat less expensive so it would be nice to see what makes the difference.
I don't like the bottom frame. So what if the others are narrow, since the bottom spoils everything? The screen should have 3: 2. The touchpad is a disaster.
