You are correct. These systems have very similar specifications and are both the top of the line models from HP and Lenovo, respectively. These systems are kind of overkill on the specs to be honest. If memory serves me, I think one of the main differences is that the P920 only supports 2TB of memory while the Z8 G4 supports up to 3TB. Not a deal killer! If you are considering these two systems then also check out the Dell Precision 7920, which is Dell's most powerful workstation and definitely in the same league as the other two. Hi there, Lenovo has what they call ThinkShield,, which does work with their ThinkStation platforms. That said, I am not that familiar with the specifics. Windows in general has security features, and you can get self-encrypting drives too. Hi there, Lenovo offers this specific card for their P920 www.lenovo.com/us/en/p/accessories-and-software/memory-and-storage/memory-and-storage-hard-drives/4xh0v09766 We do not have any of those but you can install other cards like this ASUS Card we do have. www.itcreations.com/product/127102 For both cards, M.2 drives are sold separately. BTW, here is a forum post talking directly about both M.2 cards you might find interesting. forums.lenovo.com/t5/ThinkStation-Workstations/BIOS-or-SIO-firmware-may-have-caused-crash-on-P920/m-p/5001795 I would assume other 3rd party cards will fit. Bifurcation of the x16 slot to x4x4x4x4 is recommended if you want to RAID the drives for performance or resilience. Thanks for watching!

Hi there J.A. H. R. Puffin Stuff (had to, sorry, ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-AxHF-VnzvVo.html), The one with the least HDs and CPUs will be the quiet one because those are the elements that require cooling. That said I have a P700 under my desk sitting about 12 inches off my right knee with 5 HDs two of which are standard HDDs plus 3 SSDs and I don't hear anything other than some crime drama podcast one of our accounting people is listening to. It really depends on how you outfit the system. SSDs don't make the whirring sound that a traditional spinning disk would make (HDD). All of these newer systems are very quiet. You could also go with a liquid cooling solution without a fan, which would cut down on noise but again these systems are pretty quiet. There was only one time my system started getting loud all of a sudden and it was because a Zip tie had gotten lodged in the blades somehow…Hope that helps and thanks for watching!

It depends on your configuration. And when you do beefy computing and holds onto the top of line results. You can compensate for 25 dbs.

My P720 doesn’t get above 50Dbs on full load while stress testing that’s with two 8TB WD Reds. OS drive is on an ssd

There is a little video that Lenovo produced that will give you a general idea of the things that can slow down your system, this: pcsupport.lenovo.com/us/en/products/workstations/thinkstation-p-series-workstations/thinkstation-p920-rack/videos/vid500122-tips-tricks-why-is-my-computer-slow. Definitely get some compressed air, disconnect everything and take your system outside, open the panel and give it a thorough blast all over to get rid of any dust buildup. Another thing. If you are currently running hard disk drives in your system installing a compatible SSD will make a world of difference. I mean a huge and noticeable increase in speed. Check out SATA SSDs and use one of the drive slots on your system to install the drive and migrate your OS to that drive and any other programs you typically use frequently. Then make that your boot drive. I put an SSD in my 20 year old computer running Win 10 and it starts up in like 30 seconds now where it used to take over a minute. Hi Austin, Potentially much more. It does depend on how you outfit the system. Of course, to get started a single processor, 16GB of memory, and a graphics card will do the trick but then you have to ask yourself, can I load this system up before the technology is obsolete?
