Mine just came. I AM SIMPLY IN LOVE WITH THIS LAPTOP the keyboard is simply amazing to the touch, the trackpad is superb, the touch is awesome, it has a really clean and professional look IT IS AMAZING! Thank you for reviewing it ♥️
@@justinmarino7965 Hi. It is dream like, it is super light I can barely feel it in my backpack, it is powerful enough to run the programming tasks I need for the university or to play games like dota. It also looks amazing. The only issue I had with it was with the sound drivers on linux, it would make a buzzing noise when connecting headphones, but on speakers and now that I have bluetooth headphones it works normally. On windows there is no such problem. I whole heartedly recommend this laptop to everyone ♥️ the computing power obviously depends on your needs but for me, working on computer science at university, it works perfectly, i haven't tried any video editing and stuff like that but DOTA works great
Watching this from my new Yoga 6. Thanks for helping me choose wisely! Really happy with this purchase. Such a unique laptop with the fabric cover and really bang for buck with the Ryzen and the rest of the specs! So happy.
Great stuff Josh, returned the 10th gen '13 Spectre x360 4 times, before finally getting a refund, so back on the Aussie market. Really hoping more laptops make it across to our shores.
The thing that concerns me with the HP Envy is a history and record of hinge malfunctions and HP *not* honoring the warranty for them. People's Envy x360 13s are breaking within months and even weeks and HP doesn't want to cover them when this is a defect effecting Envy laptops for years. Everything I've heard about the Yoga 6 is that it has sturdier better designed hinges, and their accident protection is also more affordable than HP's and so I'm hoping I can trust them more to support the device than I can HP who I have had very negative experiences.
The peanut Butter part reminds me so much of a Bob Ross painting lesson. Please put on more lovely little peanut butter bushes to the top lid next time 👨🏻🎨👌🏻
I got the yoga 6 about 8 months ago to use as a mobile programming machine for school and I have no complaints the battery last forever usually 15-18 hours doing school work I love the small size since I have a desktop at home with 3 27" monitors that I use for bigger projects.
Btw. As a RU-vidr on the Android side I will say you do fantastic work, and your channel will no doubt continue to grow. Your close ups are quality, much better then mine. And you do great work, my other comments are meant to ask questions and to help consumers make those tough choices. Great video
Love this guy.... Straight up at the beginning which told me this laptop is not for me yet...I still watched it. And I'm glad I DID!! PEANUT BUTTER TEST! WHAT! Absolutely!!
I purchased this directly from Lenovo a few days ago and started the return process within 8 hours. For starters, it photographs better than it appears in person - In the hands it looks and feels cheap. Mine had darkened spots on the denim (glue?) but aesthetics aside, the deal breaker was the constant fan noise even after every possible update. It never turned off once but did quiet down when the Yoga was just running on battery, but still it was always on. Unacceptable, for me anyway, but thankfully Lenovo started the return process without any hassle once I mentioned the fan noise. Guess I haven't been the only one.
Lenovo has, over the years, produced high-powered, excellently designed laptops at cheaper prices and some of us are able to own premium laptops because of them without spending too much. Thanks Lenovo. Typing this on my Yoga C740
Sounds good- most laptops in the budget price range have a lot more compromises than this one. I've also noticed the fan noise difference with my AMD Omen when on battery vs. plugged in, even gaming. I think when plugged in the software is more likely to boost the CPU and run the fans, thus the noise.
I kinda wonder why people are always looking for a big screen, this is one of the options on my list _because_ it has a small screen/is small in general. At the moment, Im prioritizing portability, especially coming from using a school issued chromebook for 4 years (which was even smaller, probably only 12 inches max). Im definitely a casual user, will likely only use it for text documents and watching videos (if even that because my phone is a monster in terms of battery life compared to my old one). This is really a well thought out review, and a huge help in my search! Initially, I had the Yoga 7 on my list, but that goes for around 250 USD more than this is listed for on Best Buy. Im not a gamer, I _am_ an artist, but I prefer traditional art so thats not a problem, and I always used my chromebook on the lowest brightness setting possible anyways. Thanks for the review!
Additionally, i read some reviews on the website and the manufacturer replied that the laptop runs warmer when plugged in, which I assume is why the fans come on more often when charging.
How is the display on yours? I just received the 5700U model and i love it - HOWEVER i find it has quite a lot of ghosting due to the panels high response time. (You can really notice it, when moving the mouse cursor around on a dark color, then you'll see loads of trailing). You experience this too? I might just be sensitive because of come from a MacBook Air M1 and normally use an external 165 Hz Nano IPS display.
Josh, you really took us in a new age. At least i find myself watching a laptop-reviewer cleaning the device using a moid sponge and a paper towel 🤩 You put just the right amount of humor in a serious laptop review. I really like that! Keep on going Josh and stay healthy! 👍🏻
The peanut butter test was hysterical! Awesome. Josh, now that it's New Year, would you mind sharing with us some personal productivity updates about your workout routines and personal workflow stuff? I admire you, and I could use some ideas/inspiration to get my 2021 workflow going!
Will do. It's going to be on Tik Tok btw and I'll see if I can post them as stories here on RU-vid. The Tik Tok channel isn't really launched yet but that's my plan. Short sound bites
Agreed! Have put an Intel NIC WI-FI 6 AX200 (careful, not 201, since that's for Intel CPU only) into mine and the speed is again competitive with the proper middle and higher class laptops.
Dude/chick I love your avatar! I tried to blow it off my phone cause I thought it was an eye lash. Lol edit: omg didn't see the comments. This must get annoying to you. Sorry lolololol
Actually 13" laptops are really good if you travel a lot and need to do some work on a train or bus. I used to do a lot of spreadsheats and coding etc. on 2hrs train commute to and from work on an x230.
Can your set your videos to add captions? I know auto captions aren't the best but some can't follow your videos and your content is great so I'd love for it to be at least somewhat accessible.
You have to realize that this processor is AMD's competition to Intel's i5. Your average casual user is seeing a 10th gen i5 on sale right now in laptops like the Lenovo C740 or the Surface Pro 4, and this laptop DESTROYS both of those in performance. This outperforms every 10th gen intel processor including the i7, something an average user wouldn't know. And even if it's slightly slower in some benchmarks then the same processor in other laptops, that specific AMD processor is so much better then many intel counterparts that it would be better for performance. This is better in muli-core performance then intel processors, even in the 11th gen. So I don't see a reason to knock it just because this model processor is so good in other devices
@@gipsasl this comes with a Ryzen 4650U in the base model. Not a Ryzen 4700. People are a little perplexed that they put a 4650U in rather then a 4500U. Speculation is they were running out of 4500u's so they gave this budget model an upgrade.. I know he technically got the 4700u to test. My point is that the 4700u is the upgraded model and your average user will be going for the 4650u, which is even better then an i5 or 4500u. So it punches above is weight in the base model, not below
I got both the c 740 i5 and lenovo yoga 6 and Both work amazing. I actually realized the c740 streams videos faster and when searching the web it performs faster than lenovo yoga 6. I wanted to keep my yoga 6 and return the c740 but i am confused as I thought yoga 6 should performs better. Speaker is amazing in the c 740 however, keyboard feels better on the yoga 6. What would you recommend?
I don’t know if my internet is an issue with the yoga 6 as I noticed is a little slower than c740? I am confused I don’t know it it is me or the c 740 i 5 seems better, I am confused!🤷🏻♀️
@@restauraciondeisrael5068 what's crazy is in my experience, the Yoga 6 keyboard feels amazing when typing, but terrible when gaming.. If I hold w to move a character and you hold it down, it feels so shallow to hold that key down that long. On the other end, the Yoga 6 performs radically better then the C740 with gaming and video editing. I play an old mmo and I play on low with the c740 or any 10th gen i5. But I play on high, a radical difference. In fact, this machine gave better gaming framerates then the Yoga 7i, which has an 11th gen i5 with iris graphics. Honestly I think in most stuff the Yoga 6 will be faster. Some basic things might feel slightly slower. But in reality almost everything will be faster. That's my take. But small things can take away from your experience and the C740 does have a better build quality, and it feels better when holding keys down for long periods of time when gaming, those are 2 things to consider. It's a tough call
Thanks, I really think your selective type of videos is where you stand out. Personally I would like if you also would compare the prices of the devices in different regions that would be very helpful!
Josh, I have a few quick questions for you. 1) Why we do not have enough 15 inch laptops in market?? 2) Also, why we do not have enough Ryzen 4700u laptops??
@@emiellr Why can't they make more?? They are in shortage since months. Is company sleeping or what!! OR its some kind of sales strategy of amd. I mean to show shortages.
the answer to why there is shortage is actually very simple. AMD uses a Taiwanese company called TSMC for the production of their chips, but unfortunately Qualcomm, nVidia and a couple more big ones do as well. These companies also require a lot of production. TSMC can't produce that many chips for all of those companies with those huge demands, so there is a shortage.
Thanks Josh, you were the only one brave enough to say about the fan noise. Most Yoga series has this problem of too loud fan noise. Fan work often for even a simple video meeting and so loud and like a headache. I returned my Yoga Slim 7 due to fan noise.
I appreciate the review, but I don't think that putting this 13" laptop w/a 4700 up against 14" laptops w/4700s is the best comparison, especially if you're going to then make recommendations based on the Best Buy model with different specs. First, the 4700 is constrained in this much smaller chassis. Second, you've mentioned the Best Buy version of this laptop, but as you note, you're actually looking at a laptop with a different CPU, twice the RAM, and 4x the SSD space. One that is not only not available at Best Buy, but is still not even listed on Lenovo's US web site. What is the cost of that model? I own the version of this laptop available at Best Buy (as well as owning many modern other laptops) and think it performs quite well for its size and price. (In fact, I own two of these, as I just had the opportunity to pick up another one for $460 in perfect shape). Based on the benchmarks shown, the Best Buy model performs *better* than the one reviewed here (despite the "lower" processor and half the RAM), since the 4650 is a much better match for this chassis. My Geekbench 5.3 and Cinebench R23 scores, for example, are 5072 and 5930, compared to Josh's best presented scores of 4872 and 5575. Compared to other 13" 2-in-1 laptops such as the HP Envy x360 13" 2-in-1 (another 13" modern design with 11th-gen intel and top-tier Xe integrated graphics), this laptop is more performant and significantly cheaper. I wouldn't be so quick to write it off for "power users." And finally, pro sponge tip - blot, don't scrape. :) I hope this comment doesn't come across harshly. As I wrote, I appreciate Josh's reviews, but I don't think the comparisons here were the best ones to make.
What were your experiences with battery life? I have heard wildly divergent reports for regular tasks, and they often don't specify power/brightness settings: from 6-7h to 10-12.
@@danielsacilotto6235 It's difficult for me to speak definitively on battery life since I haven't run this laptop down from full to really test it. I can tell you that Windows often reports that it believes I'll have over 10 hours, and it definitely does last me a whole day without me being mindful of minding power, other than to, say, keep brightness a few clicks from maximum. Sorry I couldn't be more helpful here.
I never used chrome os & didn’t like chrome book when I brought one during emergency.I would have settled with far less specs for my casual laptop. It’s because I don’t want to go over $500 for just to do very light studying online & playing age of empires 😅.( yes I still play those early 2000s games) that being said Josh’s humble opinions & tireless efforts helped me a lot to narrow down my search. I ordered yoga 6 from an open box option of Best Buy. Regardless of the outcome, I felt I’m obliged to comment here as because he is really awesome 👏
Thanks for comparing it to the HP Envyx360 at the end. I have narrowed down my choices to these 2 after returning a Dell XPS 13 due to annoying coil whine issue
Tldr: I know im 7 months late, but which laptop you ended up buying? I'm looking for a budget 2-in-1s that i can also game with for a bit, so i also narrowed down my option to those 2. The HP Envy x360 13 is definitely a bit pricier, but i'm not sure if the build quality is that far better compared to the Yoga 6 (since i heard that some people have issues with the hinges with the former).
This has a Ryzen 4650 not 4700!?!? How is it the same as 4700? Am I missing something? This is comparable to the Ryzen 4500U from what I know. They also priced this to be compared with the 4500u. I would expect a 4650 to perform worse then the 4700
Been waiting with baited breath for this review to come out, I can't believe it's been almost a week till I'm watching it. Thank you so much, Josh, keep up the solid work you are doing.
I was debating between the Yoga 6 and Asus Zenbook Flip 15.6 Q5071Q from Best Buy. I decided to buy the Asus for $650 USD due to the NVIDIA MX350 graphics card. It may not be as bright as the Yoga 6 but it's a beast of laptop for $100 USD more. Yoga 6 lacks of HDMI is a major drawback.
If anyone is planning on buying this, please find a different computer because so many people who have bought this end up with the screen not working. And come to find out lenovo has a class action lawsuit about their yoga laptops since it’s been such a common issue.
Sweet. I did literally 0 research into the machine. Needed a laptop for a new job and saw a yoga 6 open box like new at bestbuy. I fingered the keyboard on the display model. Felt good enough. And decided to pull the trigger. Had it for a day and yep. It's a laptop. I own a thinkpad X230 that's a decade old. The power connector keeps shorting inside the magnesium case. I'm tired of fixing it. It's definitely an old machine. And it was time to upgrade. I've got a Ryzen 5600X/RTX3070 desktop. This will mostly handle excel docs. Some light photoshop and lightroom stuff. Acrobat/indesign/illustrator. But that all ran fine on my x230 with a i7-3520M. I'm sure it'll run fine on this. A little bummed it only has 8gb of ram. That might be the one weak spot that actually gives me trouble. But didn't see any machines in the price range with more ram that I could justify buying. Needed something with a little more muscle than an ultrabook/chromebook. But not much. Good on lenovo I never buy tech on a whim like this without doing a couple days research. But I don't think I'll regret this purchase. Didn't even realize I was getting 6 cores 12 threads!
For people who are always on the go, the Lenovo yoga 6 is a great option...a proper 2 in 1 laptop, with amd ryzen 7 4700u processor, 16gb ram, 512gb ssd and it comes with a stylus. I have been using it for the last couple of months and I must say that I am pretty impressed....thanks for recommending this....
@@dpcupid I can assure you that there is no heating problem with this model. It has been just over a year that I have been using this laptop and it works exactly the same way it used to when I first bought it. This device is criminally underrated...
Will you be reviewing the Lenovo ideapad 5 pro 16” when it comes out in the next few months?,With the rumoured AMD 5000 series, rtx3060 and 120hz display.
I just bought this today. Really wish I could have bought it whenever you did. I had to pay almost $700 after tax. Really upsetting market right now. Can't tell you how much I wish I could have done this 5 months ago. New student and I was like I don't need a laptop. Now I'm going on a 2 week vacation out of no where lol. Edit: ok watched a bit farther I have the better cpu model but with downgraded storage. Idk still feel robbed. Lol 2nd edit: I'm immediately subbing. You really spread peanut butter on it. Honestly thought it was click bait, but it's obviously just you're niche, or maybe I should say personal fetish lololol. Thanks for the honest review.
please please help me! i'm in a huge dilemma between this one and "ASUS - Zenbook 14" Laptop - AMD Ryzen 5 - 8GB Memory - NVIDIA GeForce MX350 - 256GB SSD" i'm a Phd student who needs to type a lot and game once in a while.
I see your post is a month old, so this is likely too late to help, but in case it's not - I own (and love) both of those laptops and also used to be a PhD student so remember what that was like. For typing, I prefer the Asus' keyboard. The Yoga 6's is a little spongy. For gaming, the Asus w/MX350 with give you more performance. But if you think you want/need the touchscreen, the Yoga 6 is a great choice. I love them for reading long documents - it's very comfortable for me to sort of hold the edge of the laptop and use my thumb on the screen to scroll through text. If you don't need that touchscreen, though, I'd suggest the Zenbook.
Upgraded from 4650U 8gb ram Pro to 5700U 16gb ram, it seems like they leave allot of performance on the table because of the CPU overheating immediately when plugged in to power IF its in Performance Mode. Havent tried using a big cooling pad yet, have some hopes of cooling it enough to make it more worthwhile.
I have one of these from BB, and love it to death. Especially the color and fabric cover, it feels great to use. I'm not a power user, so it works perfectly for my needs.
@@sweetbeep It's definitely there, if fan noise really bothers you, you might want to look elsewhere. for the $500 cost of this laptop, it doesn't bother me too much.
Thank you for your review. I just bought this laptop today. My only complaints are the brightness isn’t that great and the spacebar key doesn’t have any spring to it. I am thinking about taking it back tomorrow and getting either the hp spectre or the MacBook Air
please never get a HP laptop, if it has some issues as mine, they take 9 months to solve the problem taking your laptop each time for 14 days for reparation and finally it continues with the same problem ( ventilator). HP is not trustable anymore.
I was looking a small, light weight Windows "tablet" for Blender, Unreal Engine, Krita and Resolve but after trying Surface line I almost gave up until I randomly decided to check out 2-in-1 solutions. Beforehand, i had no interest in them because the majority of them had low-powered Intel solutions with terrible graphics. ***Please Note*** the Yoga 6 is NOT sold with the Lenovo Active Pen 1 or 2. My local Best Buy didn't have AES 1.0-2.0 Stylus Pens in stock even though they had a majority of 2-in1 laptops on display surrounded by Apples Pens, Microsoft Stylets and Samsung Pens. Microsoft, Samsung and Apple clearly do not want Lenovo Yoga(s) to be close to the spot light. Go figure. I also have a Acer Nitro 5 with a Ryzen 5 and GTX 1650 for gaming but i'm debating on letting it go considering the Yoga 6 and Xbox Series S keep things clean and sleek.
The peanut butter is a great idea. I have a fleet of Surface Laptop 2/3 with the Alcantana(sp) material and they're disgusting; however, this material is on the palm-rest and not the lid.
I waited for a decent review for this budget ultrabook but I didn't find a proper which resulted in me buying hp omen 15 😂 Thanks for your always cheerful reviews man 👌
i just got this today it’s my first ever laptop i got it for college since im going into cs. plus 16gb ram that was honestly what i was looking for, it’s pretty pricey tbh but makes sense why it’s very nice quality
I have Lenovo Yoga Slim 7 with 4800u. The fan does turn on more often when it's plugged in. Does anyone have the same experience with AMD based laptop? Is it because the battery heats up when it's plugged in so it's heating up the rest of the component of the laptop? This is just my hypothesis
