I would suggest keeping an eye on the heat that the controller puts out under your seat, might want to mount it on a raised metal mount instead of the floor mat to give it better air circulation. May extend the life of the controller and avoid a fire.

Thanks for the install and review. I've been debating on getting a solar panel for the hood or just installing one on my roof rack.
@jeffsteffens

Ya, I like it. I didn't have room on my roof for the solar panel so this was a great option.

I have a 160w panel on my roof rack, it is big and takes up way too much space on the rack. It works great but I cannot wait for the hood panel so I can get all that roof rack real estate back for other toys.

@@adamconnolly7478 Definitely! That is one of the main reasons I went with the hood panel.

Thanks! Sorry I missed your comment. All is good and working great. Still very happy with it. Only thing like I mentioned I would do differently is getting a bluetooth MPPT controller.

Does this charge while the vehicle is running? And does the engine heat affect the solar panel in any way? I'm curious because to the best of my knowledge you need air space underneath for cooling/efficiency. That and I'm driving/idling alot.
@jeffsteffens
@jeffsteffens Год назад
Hi, Yes it charges while driving. I haven't had any issues with heat but you can just use the tape so you have airflow below. I was more worried about the panel coming off while driving than the little bit of air getting under to help keep it cool.

Vertical tape likes seam like a bad idea at 100mph..... I also did some studying and I guess cascadia does like a neoprene spacer in theirs... Idk I've never had any luck with 3m, even for wrapping Christmas presents.. I'm probably going to just bolt mine to the hood or something and RV leak tape it in place
@jeffsteffens
@jeffsteffens Год назад
So far I've had no issues with it at all. 3M double sided tape is very strong. Bolting it will work too but I believe their updated versions of the solar panel no longer have the metal eyelets.

what are the measurements of the panel?

It is about 34” long and 35” wide towards the windshield and tapers down to about 30” wide at the front of the hood.

Good thing about it - its protecting your hood's paint. Bad thing - everything is black, under direct sun rays silicon, sticky tape - will just melt. Also I have no idea why does it necessary? Wheb you riding you can get 12V or 110V just from your car, when you are staying - a way easier to use regular portable folding panels
@jeffsteffens
@jeffsteffens 2 года назад
Its just a different option that I don't have to carry the folding panels and if I want to get a 2nd battery to power my fridge this will keep that battery charged.
@adamconnolly7478
@adamconnolly7478 2 года назад
Way easier to just keep fridge running 24/7 with a solution like this... No fridge, then this is not really worth it.
@someguy9607
@someguy9607 2 года назад
@@adamconnolly7478 moreover, for fridge, especially with ice not necessary to be always turned on. Anyway at night panels cant give a power to the fridge. in that case its just a toy.
@adamconnolly7478
@adamconnolly7478 2 года назад
@@someguy9607 Having a fridge on 24/7 in Australia is an awesome toy. You need solar to run fridges here. The panels fill a 2nd battery which runs the fridge. Also the solar keep the startup and 2nd battery topped up during the day.... Also you can park somewhere and leave the stereo going all day and night. Solar panels that are always deployed save time, reduce cargo, and give you a peace of mind that your batteries will last longer. Oh yeah and you dont have to keep plugging them back in when at work.

@@someguy9607 If you live in Russia there is no need for a fridge lol.. Just put can in snow for 5 min.

Hi I’m reaching out to anyone that has one of these panels. I am on my third panel due to defects. I’m trying to find out if anyone else has had issues as far as defects I would like to hear about it. When this panel is installed with my system it works great. I have the redarc BCDC charging system for my dual batteries and with that and the solar panel my batteries are always fully charged but I’ve had two previous panels with defects and they’re sending me a third one which is arriving tomorrow I’d really like to hear if you’ve had any issues thank you.

@jeffsteffens 2 года назад
Damn! That is a bummer. I have one other guy I know who is running Lensun as well and he hasn't had any issues but we both have the older version with the metal grommets. What type of defects have yours had?
@physicalstarfighter2131
@physicalstarfighter2131 2 года назад
@@jeffsteffens it’s had discoloration of cells they turned yellow and some bubbling that was on the first one and then the second one after two months of having it on it developed the lamination in the lower right of the panel I just happen to notice it one day and I started looking closer and noticed it was D laminated. So called the company and they sent a brand new panel after I sent them pictures again and I have no complaints about the customer service it’s top notch but this is the third panel so I’m skeptical whether this one is gonna last or not that’s why I’m looking for someone who has had similar experiences with them.

Your 4runner doesn't appear to have a hood scoop. I don't think this is compatible with the majority of 4runner owners that can afford this upgrade, who would have trims that have the annoying hood scoop that would prevent this install.
@jeffsteffens
@jeffsteffens 7 месяцев назад
This is just their non scoop version. They also have a version if you have a hood scoop. I do not have a hood scoop so I obviously went with this version. It’s the same general install either way.

DO NOT LISTEN TO JEFF. Buy cascade 4x4's. It is worth the slightly extra money. Lensun is classic, cheap, patent infringement.

Sorry you feel that way. I am not comparing this to cascade 4x4. This was a reasonable priced panel and I heard other great reviews from other 4Runner owners. I've had this installed for almost 6 months and I haven't had any issues.
