leonard cannot take the itchy jumper anymore and gives up, when sheldon reveals some shocking news about the not yet paid 7 yr old dvd. and why he is so calm about all of it no copyright intended, entertainment reasons only
Amy definitely knocked it out the park in this scene and did it without saying anything! The look on her face and the way she bit her lip when Sheldon finished his "Teachable moment" speech was priceless and brilliantly acted. In that one moment she saw just how far Sheldon would go and you could tell she thought Leonard was going to knock him out and she probably would have let him haha........I will miss this show 😓
it's four months but still...how were they being dicks? by not bowing to SHeldon's roommate agreement that benefits him and him alone? by finding logical and reasonable explanations for not doing something the agreement called for? if that's what a dick is then...

As much as I love Sheldon, why couldn't Leonard have pulled a Penny and punched him? She punched Howard for trying to kiss her, and Sheldon for trying to steal a ring around her neck while she slept. But the prank he pulled on Leonard deserved at LEAST one punch to the nose.
Probably because it was payback, people say that Sheldon is annoying but Lenoard and the others make fun of him on a daily basis, Sheldon said himself that unresolved issues are a problem for him, he wanted Lenoard to feel the same pain he feels every time something like that happens. I guess the reason Lenoard didn't punch him is because deep down he knew he was right. Also that would be actual assault and Lenoard agreed to wear the sweater in the first place.
I know this is late, but I'm guessing it's because Sheldon is 'quirky'. Ironically, outside of the group, there's not a single person willing to put up with Sheldon more than they have to, with entire groups of students simply refusing to show up for his lessons. Only Howard makes an earnest effort, and even that is shot to hell by Sheldon being an unmitigated ass more concerned with lording his intelligence over him than actually teaching.
Probably the reason why Leonard can put up with Sheldon is because Sheldon is pretty much like Leonard's mom. And the other guys hang out with Sheldon because - and they've said it before - They like Leonard.
@@arnigx Leonard was already losing it when he gave up at that point. If he slapped Sheldon, it would mean to Sheldon that he got to him more than he intended to. Either way, Sheldon won.
@@arnigx Sheldon has a problem with unresolved scenarios. He believes a task must be finished once started. Said problem borders on obsessive compulsive disorder. Leonard doesn't take it seriously, so in an effort to put Leonard in Sheldon's shoes, he gives him an itchy sweater and an impossible task, for which he can't take the sweater off until he gives up or he completes it. Simulating the feeling Sheldon experiences his whole life. Leonard takes him up on the challenge. Said challenge being to return an overdue copy of Super Mario Brothers the movie. However during said task, he let's it slip that the owner of the rental store had died and the store long closed down. Further complicating things for Leonard. Throughout the whole thing, Leonard, not one to give up the chance to beat Sheldon, tries everything he can including looking for relatives of the man. When Leonard gives up, Sheldon reveals that was his plan all along to teach him a lesson to respect those with problems like his.
You know, I like to imagine an epilogue like this: (Sheldon is rubbing cream into Leonard’s chest, while Penny stands over him.) Sheldon: “Leonard, it was wrong of me to send you on a wild goose chase just to make a point, and I’m sorry.” Penny: “Again!” Sheldon: “Leonard, it was wrong of me to send you on a wild goose chase just to make a point, and I’m sorry.” Penny: “Again!” Sheldon: “You’re just going to make me repeat it again and again until it gets stuck in my head, aren’t you?” Penny: “Yes, and it’ll be a brain itch you deserve! Oh, and if Leonard needs a skin graft, you’re our first choice!”
the problem with this show is 90% Sheldon gets his way. This is crazy. Anyone would probably punch Sheldon and i cant blame them. I know its a show but in real life anyone like Sheldon would be outcast
The real problem is that after like 11 seasons Sheldon had NO character growth except in little tiny bits like having a relationship or having sex. Sheldon as a character never improved and never got better as a person. Just for an episode he became understandable and then the next episode he went back to being annoying as ever.
@Christopher Bingham You seem to have lived a very sheltered life. The threat of violence is always a possibility given obnoxious enough behavior. It's often that unspoken threat that keeps society civil.
Only reason I started watching the show. I hated Sheldon so much I just couldn't enjoy it. Then came Amy. Watching her evolve made it worth while. I could ignore Sheldon.
This sweater and how Sheldon express his feelings through it was literally the best metaphor I have ever seen and heard in my life. It's so relatable to me
As much as I think Sheldon is a hilarious diabolical evil genius, but in all honesty, he would've likely be punched in the face for this and that's only if he's lucky.
Yes, but as I just said, he's only lucky if he got punched in the face. Snapped in the neck is one of the things he would've gotten if he's less lucky.
Leonard is responsible for his own misery here. He shouldn't have accepted the challenge in the first place but he thought he could live with what Sheldon goes through on a regular basis. At least he could just remove the sweater whenever he wants. The only reason Leonard suffered is his desire to show Sheldon, something he had complete control over. He could have quit anytime. Sheldon has no such control over the itch in his brain. Maybe Leonard now realizes that how wrong he was about all the unresolved closure issues Sheldon has.
Honey, there are so many therapies and treatment to control and manage OCD and closure issues. But Sheldon issues are way beyond just ocd and closure. As amy said, he has a diabolical side and also way too much entitlement. That's what needs to be fixed.
I think the reason why Leonard didn't actually jumped to attack Sheldon, is because he was already defeated by the fact that he couldn't handle the equivalent of Sheldon's mental issues. He was already dealing with the literal itch that's actually a perfect metaphor for this kind of issues, and only getting worse the more he kept finding dead ends and not being able to resolve this. So in a way, finding out that there was never a problem is the ultimate slap in the face to someone who tries to act like they know how someone feels. When you have that itch and you realize it's all for nothing, you just care about the fact that the itch is gone, now imagine that happening every single time on every little issue of your life that you want to resolve.
Wow so many hate comments for Sheldon. It's so sad that people are not trying to understand his point. He was trying to tell Leonard how unresolved issues make him feel. People that's how it makes you feel. Leonard's faced it in physical form whereas Sheldon's faces it in a mental form. Ocd can get out of control at times
Um...have you ever watched this show before because while you can see past how Sheldon treats Leonard, it's perfectly normal what Sheldon asks of him while there are like 12 serious cases where Sheldon's career or his life has almost been ruined by Leonard
You might say this is an example of the insanity of love. Amy is presented with an illustration of Sheldon's darker nature yet she persists with their 'relationship'. If Sheldon can knowingly be this sadistic with his best friend (and not see an issue with it), then shouldn't this make Amy question his suitability as a life long partner?
@Christopher Bingham that's how FICTIONAL women are, mostly always written by men. In reality, no self respecting woman would stand someone like Sheldon.
@@MicukoFelton Messed up as it sounds, even the most nicest of people often have an attraction to someone that has done or is capable of doing evil. Mainly because it brings excitement in an otherwise boring life. Sometimes the novelty wears off and they go for someone nice. Other times they stay and be abused. And very rarely, which is another reason why they persist, they believe they can change that person.
Amy is so sex crazed and starved for affection that she's willing to seek it from someone who emotionally and mentally abuses others, including, on occasion, herself.
@@Shanethefilmmaker Many women also believe that having the "dangerous" man around is for their safety, that he will protect them from others, ignoring the likelihood that the evil will be turned against THEM.
This is a perfect physical manifestation of people with closure issues or OCD. We have that unbearable "itch" that must be rectified otherwise our minds spiral out of control. Really well done and teachable moment to those who simply don't understand.
Kesandra Williamson The face you make when you try to pass off a double entendre that isn't subtle at all. Pretty sure everyone watching was making the same face.
@@vaultofwaqas Still I would've done and my reason because of miscommunication about Amy Sheldon Karate chopped Leonard close to the neck. In return a kick to the balls with shoe
I don't know why everyone is coming down on Sheldon in this scene. I would have totally do the same thing. Well planned teachable moments are fantastic when well executed.
This episode always bugged me because I was really hoping for Leonard to channel his inner-Darwin and do what millions of years of evolution have taught us: adapt. If you can't remove the sweater, you find a way to make it tolerable . . . like putting on a moisture-wicking base layer under the sweater. Of course Sheldon would object, saying something like "that's cheating" or "you can't do that." But then it could have turned into a punchline about Leonard being "more evolved" than Sheldon for having been able to adapt. And actually maybe the undershirt was Penny's idea so she would cut in saying technically that means SHE is the one that's more evolved. 🤷🏼♀️ I don't know, I think it was a missed opportunity to throw Sheldon off his scientific high horse 😝
So Raj made some stupid Scavenger hunt where you must look for a coin but there is a coin in everyone's pockets meaning everyone won. And now theres this
Why? He simply challenged Leonard. He never forced him to take the bet or force him to keep the sweater on. You also don't consider how Sheldon would have felt if he had discovered the DVD soo late and could resolve it.
@@olavihekandjo2928 I know Leonard could've stopped if he wanted to, but he didn't. Cause he thought he could handle it. And Sheldon knew that. He knew about Leonard's pride and he took advantage of that.
I know the general consensus on this episode is that Sheldon is a dick but this itchy sweater that tortured Leonard is exactly how Sheldon feels when something is not done properly. I have a close friend with similar attributes to Sheldon and seeing how much she struggles with stuff that I don’t even give a second glance to really makes me sympathize Sheldon.
Yeah, that was the whole point, however the difference was that there was that the problem was solved. Unless Leonard was just calling out Sheldon for getting upset when nothing goes his way, Sheldon would make Leonard wear the sweater to teach him a lesson on how it's like to be him instead of Sheldon just doing this out of nowhere
We all share this planet for a tiny amount of time then its off to the next generation. Why such diversity between us? Because you're all stuck in your ways, unable to comprehend any kind of new way of living among yourselves on whatever scale. Its all very silly. Our diversity in most ways are a critical issue to our long term survival. We should globally celebrate our collective existence in this small portion of time we all have on earth. We should serve as comrades and focus on solving current problems we have, not creating them or confining to them. Learning right now to solve our criseses of the world for the rest of humanities being. Teaching children and our decendants to live together in harmony and always focus on the present and future of man in an orderly manner and in a way the brings benefit to most people at least expense. However we achieve
Sheldon has done things like grind up insects to put in Leonard's food. He looses a lot of sympathy for going out of his way to be an ass. What Leonard did was nonmalicious and accidental, whereas Sheldon has sterling moments like that episode where his response to Howard earnestly joining the class he taught was to mock the poor guy's intelligence.
A lot of people get mad at Sheldon, but don't forget, ultimately the reason he did this was to demonstrate how is compulsive behaviour made him feel if even a hair was out of place. You can say this was cruel of him, but ultimately this is an experience he deals with regularly, many times as a result of his friends
he could have stopped after Leonard found out that the store owner died though and gotten his point across but no the little sociopath decided to watch Leonard suffer more and more until he questioned why Sheldon was calm throughout the whole situation
What exactly are the writers trying to tell us here? Is it that Sheldon is really a nasty character, who finds real delight in causing misery and suffering? Or is it that Leonerd is really a weak pushover who deserves to be taught a harsh lesson. Think this episode sends out the wrong message in what is a family show
or maybe it tries to teach people what the weird behavior auties/aspies sometimes display, means. do not ridicule it. understand and respect itchy brains. you may find it odd, that i get mad and frustrated when i dont know something, to the point where i cant do anything else until i find it out, memorize it and my brain stops itching. his way of teaching leonnard is harsh, but then again, how often do they treat sheldon with disrespect?
+monster2slayer They treat Sheldon like that because he has absolutely no respect for anyone else's feelings. He belittles people constantly and treats them as inferior on a routine basis and refuses to acknowledge others people's feelings unless he is forced to.
This time I understand Sheldon, Leonard never understood what its like for Sheldon, he kept saying that he was been to mutch but that's hoe he feels and Leonard just kept undermining hes feeling
Omg this video loterally pops up in my recommended 10 seconds after watching the full episode on Netflix... I swear Google is watching my phone or something
Sort of, Sheldon was trying to show Leonard what it's like to be him. Sheldon has an 'itch' in his brain when he's trying to solve a problem. I get what Sheldon was trying to do, but since the problem was over then it was pointless.
@@Nameless82284 It was pointless. He basically lied. If he resolved the issue at the time and didn't tell him until now, then why did he say he "had an itch"? He had no itch. He made that up. He nullified everything Leonard did. There was nothing to teach here. Also it is weird that he paid the late fees and they let him keep it because video rental places never do that. What is worse is that he asks Leonard not to flip out. That's literally like asking your best friend not to flip out if you raped his girlfriend or something.
@@ShonenJapan The part where Sheldon told Leonard not to flip out was a reference when Leonard told Sheldon not to flip out for not returning the DVD. I mean, I get what Sheldon was trying to do but the problem was solved.

@@ShonenJapan Already paid for or not is irrelavant. Leonard could have managed to find the owner who would have informed him that the DVD was already paid. Here the only problem is Leonard's pride. He could have removed the sweater at ANY time, but as he wanted to prove so bad that Sheldon was wrong, he decided to self inflict this
