The #NBA G League Ignite's Leonard Miller is one of the most underrated prospects in this #NBADraft. The #Canada forward has flashed a versatile skillset on offense, but needs to iron out his defense. He's headed to the #MinnesotaTimberwolves.

Appreciate it! Leonard should’ve been a first rounder imo so this is great value for the Twolves.

Seems like a really good finisher with great athletic traits, but is super raw and can't space the floor as of right now. Could end up being a really productive player in the NBA for years or could end up without a real role, played off the floor for his lack of shooting, and not a good enough defender to stick around very long. I think he's more a big, as of right now, and maybe down the line ends up being able to guard out on the perimeter more effectively. Reminds me of Vanderbilt at times

Thanks for watching! He's productive, but the question is how like you said. He's still very raw and putting it together. At Ignite, efficiency was a priority, but he also showed flashes of passing+handling at lower levels that might be tapped into in the NBA. Shooting well from deep will be important. He has touch, but not the numbers from three right now, so the Vanderbilt comparison is definitely apt. I can see the Lakers being interested in Miller at 17 if he's still there.

His game reminds me of Aaron Gordon, but Gordon has 20+ pounds on him. He's an interesting project, but what should help him the adapt to the NBA is that he can impact the game without scoring.

AG took a few years to progress to where he’s at right now, but I like where you’re going with this. Looking forward to watching Leonard in Minnesota. Think he’s a real steal for them in the second - I wouldn’t have let him slip past the early 20s probably. Thanks for watching!

Some teams really like Leonard Miller. I think he could be a big riser later this summer. Thanks for watching!

The scoring efficiency is nice, along with his size and length. In time, I imagine he will learn NBA passing lanes and be able to generate more steals that way with his length. I am not sure that he has the athleticism or lateral quickness to ever be a really good defender though. I know it's cliché, but his 3 point shooting may determine whether or not he has a lengthy NBA career.
@FloorandCeiling
@FloorandCeiling Год назад
Thanks for watching! His efficiency has been huge. He's not the most orthodox finisher, but Miller is really good at just getting the ball in there through toughness, length, persistence, and touch. I totally agree with you that he's not that explosive/quick twitchy, but the tools are there. Once he's up to speed, I think Miller has it in him to be a solid and switchy (to some extent) defender. He needs more reps though The three-pointer is an interesting question. On one hand, it obviously boosts Miller's overall potential a lot more. Gives him even more versatility. But he's also managed to be effective without being a great shooter so far -- and I'm not sure how much defenders close out on him changes a lot if he goes from 27-28% to like 30-31%. Only if he takes a much bigger leap -- but those are still points for his team.

He is a player that creates a lot of doubts in my mind. Good wingspan, interesting percentages and certain skills. But it seems as if all his baskets go in by pure chance, poorly made shots that miraculously end up inside the hoop. And his three-point shooting mechanics seem horrible to me. But, don't mind me too much because the last NCAA prospect that gave me similar impressions ended up being rookie of the year. I'm talking about Scottie Barnes.
@FloorandCeiling
@FloorandCeiling Год назад
I mentioned the similarities to Scottie on Twitter. Him and Miller are different prospects (Miller more of a play finisher now, Scottie more of a point forward at Florida State) but they remind me of one another in how they move, how long they are, and the unorthodox way they finish at the rim.

You’re high enough on him to want Miller at 10 for the Mavs? Curious about what you’re thinking in terms of the fit there. Thanks for watching!

I think Floor is like TJ warren, ceiling Chris Bosh
@FloorandCeiling
@FloorandCeiling Год назад
I like the Chris Bosh idea, but I think Miller's floor is probably comparable to the role that Jarred Vanderbilt played in the NBA this season with his motor, athletic tools (the defense will have to develop), rebounding, and ability to hit open threes while playing multiple positions. Thanks for watching!
@GavinBall
@GavinBall Год назад
He reminds me of a young Chris Bosh. Both lefties, similar height and build. Both solid rebounders, not overly athletic. A bit awkward at times, but with an intriguing mix of size and skill, with clear upside. Probably not the same level of prospect as Bosh, but he has a chance.
@FloorandCeiling
@FloorandCeiling Год назад
Thanks for watching! Awkward and intriguing are great words to describe Leonard Miller's game. I think you could trust Bosh's shot more than Miller's, which has touch but is all over the place mechanically and in need of some retooling down the line. Still, Miller is gonna bring value with his finishing and rebounding. I also buy his passing as a long-term skill, both as the 5 man himself and sharing the floor with other bigs. It'll be really interesting to see what his NBA team sees Miller as. He was more of a ballhandling wing/point forward before this season, but the G League Ignite really converted him into an effective big man. He's still kind of a blank canvas.

You shouldn't compare raw TS% across leagues. If you want to compare them it would be their TS% relative to the league average.
@FloorandCeiling
@FloorandCeiling Год назад
Thanks, appreciate that note and definitely something to keep in mind. Right now, Leonard Miller's TS% over all of his Ignite games this season is 62.9%. Only one G League team, the Stockton Kings, has a higher TS% than that at 64.3. The South Bay Lakers are right behind at 62.8 TS%.

Another great breakdown. Lots of potential. I think he's not a lottery pick, but for sure a late 1st rounder who might be a gem for an NBA team that can develop him as a 4.

I see some broad similarities, but also why I feel like Miller and Bam wouldn't be that compatible offensively because their skillsets overlap some and I don't think Miller's developmental timeline fits what Miami needs right now.

This is an interesting comp I hadn’t thought about actually. I can totally see it on offense. Vanderbilt unfortunately was plagued with injury issues at Kentucky but I thought he was a better defender then than Miller is now

@@FloorandCeiling Yeah i agree I think Vando is a better defensive and ofensive rebounder player but Leonard has more ofensive potential and also he can be decent in defense and a great rebounder lob threat

I really like his ability to faceup and handle and pass at his size. Love his touch around the rim. Really good offensive rebound. My biggest concern with him is that I think that if he's going to make it in the NBA it's going to be at the 4. But I don't buy his three point shot at all. So it feels like he's going to be a 4 who gets trapped at the 5. And I think it will be much harder for him to make it there. He's probably going to end up early second round on my board.
@FloorandCeiling
@FloorandCeiling Год назад
Appreciate your support! I'm glad you mentioned his touch because that's the one thing that really stands out about Miller in-person and I hope it comes across on tape too. His jump shot is odd, but his feathery touch makes me optimistic long-term when you combine that with his numbers at the rim. The three-pointer is probably gonna be an investment that takes time though, so it depends on what your team needs. You'd also probably want to consider more G League reps for him next year depending on where he lands - and either way, it probably makes the most sense to pair Miller with another big (be it a 4 or a 5) who can stretch the floor.
