U remind me of a joke. Marilyn Monroe tells Einstein, 'If we marry, our children would have both beauty and brains'. Einstein:'What if our kids get my beauty and your brains?'
@@Knightfire66 If you think that’s thinking “deep,” about what was said, you may have missed the point of it all. Don’t get me wrong, I thought (and even commented) the same thing elsewhere, but to examine the idea that we are a hologram, an illusion created by something (someone?) far greater than we really can grasp or imagine... it’s enough to make you consider studying the profound thinkers of the past and perhaps ponder the very existence of God.
Leonard's speech about life being a hologram on the largest canvas in the Universe was actually really beautiful I found myself tearing up. I can't seem to figure out if the idea of that was really sad and upsetting or just a really beautiful and positive outlook on life . . .
So there’s this thing called quantum tunneling, which basically states that particles move in sets on a sub atomic scale. One goes up it’s counterpart goes down, and each individual subatomic particle can be up or down, left or right, etc. the odds of it occurring are astronomical beyond astronomical, may as well be infinitesimally small but it’s technically possible for you to exist one second and spontaneously exist on the opposite end of the universe the next. Once you break things down to a quantum level all matter is is information. The orientation of the subatomic particles that make up our existence are like the 1’s and 0’s in binary code which eventually makes up an image on a screen
Not to mentioned in my mind that scene was the final point on continuation their relationship slash marriage and i adore proposal also it was so hilarious.
Actually.... Sheldon is the smart one, Wolowitz is the funny one, and Koothrappali is the lovable foreigner who struggles to understand their ways and fails. That leaves Leonard, by default, as the muscle.
y813lnJack of the group, he's easily the most well rounded. He's not as smart as Sheldon, but he's still super smart, and the most "Street" smart of the bunch.
Leonard & Penny were both pretty romantic! On 1 occasion Leonard transformed into "ayeaah" the romance ninja & on another occasion, following a romantic dinner at Penny's of raman noodles with flavor packet, Penny unleashed a "crapstorm" of romance on Leonard! Romantic! 😂
I nearly teared during this scene. When Penny said “Sometimes, I forget how smart you are.”, I understand. After all the obstacles and unhappiness in a relationship, you tend to forget why you fell in love the first place. It’s moment like this which helps you know.
When he started talking about that their universe could be a hologram, I suddenly had a flash of understanding. Their universe is indeed a hologram, of the type called a TV Sitcom.
Penny always knew Leonard was smart, but this presentation connected with her on a level that she could understand while also understanding the concepts that Leonard was able to clearly convey and articulate. He basically found the sweet spot between advanced science and common comprehension.
This moment is honestly what convinced me they would break up again and end up getting back together near the finale a la Friends, maybe with Penny being the one struggling to get over things while Leonard ends up dating/almost marrying Alex(I was absolutely convinced Alex would date Leonard, she shows up out of nowhere, is his intellectual equal and instantly starts making moves on him, hell in a later episode she outright asks him to bring Penny to a science conference, which almost feels like a situation she was engineering to throw the proverbial gauntlet)
One of my favourite scenes in the series. Penny's amazement and appreciation towards Leonard and his work is so genuine. They should have end the scene just with the kiss, it would protect the gravitas of it.
I disagree; it showed that Penny truly appreciates Leonard not just for his romantic life, but his professional life as well. She may not understand it fully, but the way he described it here really spoke to the romantic/dramatic side of her; How painfully beautiful and poignant would it be for her, a prospective actor, to consider that the entire world is a stage and, in a sort of cosmic way, all of existence is merely following a script 'written' by the cosmos itself? Leonard was able to communicate why his job exists and what he is trying to accomplish in a way that finally resonated with Penny, who had always struggled with that.
When Sheldon talks to non-scientists about his work, it's like, deep down, he's scoffing and thinking, "Oh, why am I wasting my time on this unevolved, troglodyte, pea-brain?" You may find yourself feeling insulted. You may find yourself feeling condescended to. You _won't_ find yourself feeling edified. You may just want to hit him. When Leonard talks to non-scientists about his work, on the other hand, it's more like, deep down, he's thinking, "This is the kind of thing that makes the Universe so incredible. As a physicist, I get to spend all day studying things like this. This is why I do what I do." You understand what impresses him so much about the Universe and physics and what he does. You get it and you come away from the conversation a little bit smarter and seeing your world a little bit differently.
2:17 The look of affection and admiration on Penny's face, then the perfectly delivered line afterwards....this scene was very well done and one of the (many) moments that set 'The Big Bang Theory' apart from other sitcoms.
2 different pencils! The one standing up on the countertop was unsharpened, the "hologram" was sharpened yet Leonard said the projected image which WAS sharpened was a holographic image of the unsharpened one standing up. Oops!
@@Beezlie727 If you look carefully at the table, it's covered in holes. Leonard stuck the sharpened tip of the pencil in one of the holes to stand it up. Upon closer inspection, you can still see a portion of the exposed wood at the end of the pencil on the hologram. They put a lot more attention into the scene than I initially thought.
It started to get sort of boring in the later seasons. There are only so many jokes you can make about a group of nerds. There was a renewed intetest in season 12 because it was announced that it would be the last one.
Season 6, Episode 5. It's easy to miss, but this was the exact moment that Penny really gained appreciation for Leonard's mind and gave him the recognition and affection he had been missing his whole life. It also marks a big milestone in her character arc in that she is learning to be attracted to what's healthy for her....and Kaley Cuoco played it perfectly.
Even though this is funny & romantic.. I am very thankful to the producers for the explanation/presentation given from 1:45 to 2:26. It gave a fairly good idea about what the scientists and mystics/monks were trying to say about the nature of the universe.
There will never be adequate words to describe just how exceptional BBT was at every level. Writers, producers, studio crew and cast came together to creat another legend, on par or surpassing Cheers, All In The Family, Steinfeld and other memorable sitcoms. Truly, well done.
As someone in his late 20’s who has yet to figure out the kind of work that he loves, this scene always makes me tear up. To see someone talk about what they do for a living with such love and excitement, however calmly, is so beautiful. And then have the person you love genuinely appreciate your passion for your work? Man, that must feel really nice. To the person reading this, if you haven’t found the kind of work or job that makes you so happy and excited (like me), I hope that very soon you will. And when you do, I hope you find someone who’d look at you the way Penny looked at Leonard when you tell them all about your work. Cheers fellas! PS: I hope that whatever makes you happy isn’t at the expense of yourself or others lol
I hate to break it to you, but most people don’t have this job and for those that do, 90% of the work is still work. So don’t set your expectations too high or you’ll be very unhappy with the outcome.
damn im reading this as im about to make a choice between a degree im very passionate about and a degree that i kinda like but not passionate about, yet has amazing work prospects....really makes you think
I love my job as a legal document preparer for family law. I hear so much drama and get paid so well and I love every second of listening to these people's ridiculous stories. And because I'm not bound by confidentiality I get to share those stories and the girl I'm currently seeing loves listening to them because she likes the drama too LOL. She's often asking me about a new story. It turns out we both enjoy the drama.
Leonard & Penny are an amazing [TV] couple. ....So sweet and romantic, genuine and simple together! I would love a guy like Leonard. I also love this scene, as I do every scene of TBBT. I just love this series, and cast and these characters so much.....I have since the beginning---first airing. Thanks for the upload.
we don't know whether it's sharp or not pencil is stuck in a hole on the table and for hologram it could only scan the visible portion. Even a little white sharped part could be seen.
@@heathb4319 Holograms require a surface to emit or reflect light. Most commonly film. You can also project light onto a moving surface to give the illusion. It is not possible to have a free floating hologram as depicted in this episode. If you believe this technology really exists, please cite a source.
@@stargazer7644 ... ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-tzWP-NL3Lck.html There is a start...now go use the internet to research and learn like i did. There are much better versions out there already that are much more intuitive and interactive. You will find lots of basic stuff but keep looking, you will find the good stuff soon enough. Enjoy.
@@heathb4319 Sorry pal, but the one making the claims has to provide the proof. Did you watch that video and understand what the technology does? It's more of a vector display drawn slowly by a plastic ball. Did you notice the exposure time on the globe demo? 20 seconds for a full frame! You can't even see that image without a long exposure camera. Your eyes would certainly not see the globe image. These are not what people generally think of when they hear the word hologram. Not to mention the hologram isn't free floating, it only exists in the box. Where are these "much better versions"? I am familiar with hologram technology, and as for what is shown in the TBBT clip, the technology simply doesn't exist.
This reminds me memories with my fiancee. She always looked at me with the same face, when I was talking enthusiastic about my projects with energy transportion and lowering CO2 emission.
What I appreciate about this show, especially with both Penny and Sheldon, was that they were given the opportunity to grow and evolve into better versions of themselves. If you think about it, the core characters of this show were Penny and Sheldon. They seemed to help balance every other character. And even if the show could do a lot with just the 4 fellas, Penny's dynamic along with Sheldon's is what really pushes the show forward.
This scene showcases why Leonard and Penny are together. Penny is the kind of girlfriend that will try to find interest in her boyfriend's job even if she isn't really interested, and Leonard is the kind of scientist who knows that and will do his best to gain her interest.
2:00 👈🏾The moment that Penny ☝🏾and the audience, including me, realizes how cool the character Leonard actualy is in TBBT. The greatest sitcom ever created. ✌🏾
Yeah, well, you gotta be ready for all the posibilities. We could also be just a big zoo maintained by some other species, we could be a huge dream - or there might actually be some old fellow on a cloud called God. I hope we, as a people, will never find out, why we're all actually here.
The theory actually states that if you were able to stand at the cosmological horizon you would see the universe as a 2 dimension image that has the abylity to project 3d images. So basically yeah but thats not depressing at all. Its actually pretty cool. If you were standing there and seeing a tiny black spot, that could be earth, just like when you see a black spot on your tv.
Jacob K For me, it would be exciting if it was true. If the universe is a hologram, then we can find and study the surface that generates that hologram... and learn how to change it, bypassing the physical laws that describe the universe. The power to be one's own god.
+DevilMaster Here's a fun theory. We are all part of a beings Imagination and we live inside a giant brain and we are all scenes and characters inside the giant Imagination section of that brain. Kinda like Inside Outs imagination Land but very very expanded.Weird and cool, huh ?
***** That's the beauty of it: if everybody is omnipotent, then everybody is equal. Nobody would try to impose their own vision of how the universe should run to anybody else (if that vision is damaging to someone else), because they would meet an equally strong opposition and every dispute would end up in a stalemate. Instead, they would just create their own bubble universe, where everything is exactly what they want.
Scenes like this. If Leonard understood how lucky Penny was to have him he wouldn't be controlled by her all the time and actually have a equal relationship.
I feel that this scene also told us that Penny isn't unintelligent, just uneducated. She's capable of joking about the science, and of following the whole "hologram" stuff, she just doesn't have the schooling to understand it.
"Then they MAKE OUT"? Making out is not what usually follows the statement "take off your clothes"! As Howard might say "they're gonna do the nasty, the dance with no pants"! According to Sheldon they're preparing for "coitus"! That's more than "making out", that's for sure. 😂😂
Even as a kid I always wondered that, we are told that the stars we see in space could already be burned out, that the travel of light is so far and so long we are seeing a dead star possible. If this theory is correct could we ourselves just be a echo living life that has already ended?
Stars may be dead but we see them ok solely because of the distance between us and them (light travels for years so we see now how they were before; in time we will see no light from the star meaning it ended. It'll be in our future). So the answer to your question is no. We see each others in the the past also. But it's an immediate past (distance over speed of light, milliseconds or less if we're meters away, not years as is with stars.
@@poe12 that also happens with the sunlight, as it takes 8.20 minutes to reach Earth, so when we see a sunset the sun has already set and the sunset we see is just the light that reached us later, also being bended by the atmosphere, and if the sun would suddenly disappear we would still see it.
@@dark_hood7 correct. I see an apple 1 meter away from me as it was 1 (meter) / 300000000 (meters/sec) seconds ago which is 1/3×10^8= 0.3*10^-7= 0.03*10^-6=0.03 micro seconds.
Absolutely. Holograms are actually extremely easy to produce. It's a common project in school tech classes to cut 4 pieces of plexiglass into almost a hollow pyramid with the tip cut off. Then, that's placed onto a phone screen and a specific video with 4 images reflects onto the glass and the glass then makes a hologram
What you're referring to isn't a "true" Hologram as it is only reflecting the 2D image on your screen (All sides of the pyramid will show the exact same image). A true Hologram however, will show a completely three dimensional image.
