Every time I encounter a deer in the woods I learn from it. Every one of those experiences shapes and forms who you are as a hunter and what you take from that should always be viewed positively. Even if you don't get the deer. As a bow hunter it took me a few experiences just to learn to draw my bow back at the right time. Lol. I think you guys really have some wonderful insight and completely the right attitude towards everything. I watched probably all your videos and some more than once and I don't think I've ever seen any one of you walk away from a close encounter mad because you didn't get the deer. That is how you have to be as a hunter. Awesome!!! Every day I'm checking to see when one of you guys will connect. Good luck!

man the details in that story overshadows many youtube hunting video kills. Amazing!

that's why tracking for one day will teach you more than hunting from a treestand for and entire season. and you aren't ambushing them you're hunting them. win win. but anyway you get them is great.

Rodney doesn’t need a camera man. The detail was awesome. I have never hunted in VT but I could picture the entire hunt. I bet that story has been told a few times around the wood stove at camp. if you hunted out of my camp the 4 pointer gets bigger, the snow gets deeper and the tracking mileage doubles every year you get older....

I had the same thing happen last year, big 8pt led me right to a 180lb 7pt. Shot the 7, and ended up shooting the 8 this year

Great deer hunting story! Snow camouflage. Here is something some people may not know. Florescent orange just showed up on the hunting seen. Bill Devaux, National trap shooter avid deer hunter and gun shop owner in Norwich, VT told me several times he was color blind and saw florescent orange as white. Hmmm! I wonder what deer see florescent orange as? Any idea?

if yer on a track and the buck starts to act like he is going to bed down, would you then leave the trach and go up hill, assuming he will hook upwards before laying down?
@mtndeer
@mtndeer 3 года назад
Most of the time it is a better bet to stay on the track and go slow. Look far ahead for the hook and keep an eye on the down wind side of the track. Look through the brush and especially under low hanging limbs

What type of jacket do you always wear I’m always trying to avoid having to put on a separate vest and these look like they hold up as well.

Their jackets are "Beagle Wear". They are no longer being produced and are hard to find on the used market.

Called a deer in 4 days ago it circled me and tried getting down wind i followed it in a circle grunting right behind him and he turned. I shot him in the front shoulder and he fell got up and ran. I had tiny specks of blood on the leaves and hair it stopped bleeding about 150yards after that never found it til 3 days later. And it was a perfect shot on the shoulder the bullet exploded on impact. I use 245 grain power belt hollow points and 100grains of white hotts powder. I've heard alot of bad stories on those power belts for muzzleloaders recently sighted in my tradition with the new tradition smackdown carnivore 250gr polymer tip. says that they are solid lead good pass thrus for blood trailing. Any advice what do u shoot for muzzle loader bullets and powder etc? any help would be appreciated I've took several deer with the power belts but recently have had issues last yr and this yr idk if the bullet is redone diff from before no idea package is diff on them. Thsnks much appreciated ur tactics helped tho ik i can succeed in acting like a deer thanks.

Muzzle guns are slow heavy bullets without hitting bone they tend to drill a hole and slow down and or may not pass through or expand , leaving only the entrance hole to bleed, I’ve had the best luck by shooting in the bones of the shoulder to release more energy and help expansion.
