I love kojic acid. I discovered it 6 years ago and bought the soap at a Filipino Store. Used it every 3rd day and let it sit on my skin for a couple of minutes before I washed it off. It took about 4-6 months to see results but the results were great. Still use it to this day.
Almost 20-ish years ago, right after high school, I wanted to fade my post-acne dark marks (PIH). And after research online on some problematic websites, I found some Kojic Acid soaps. Used them consistently over idk how long, and my PIH cleared up! I loved them so much. I only semi-recently started incorporating it into my routine again. So good for dark spots.
@@erionafrancescasherifi4492 I think I used them whenever I showered, so both I think. I would leave it on for a few minutes, then wash it off. When I used them again more recently, I only used it at night but also left it on for a few minutes before washing it off, but increasing the length of time I left it on (before washing it off) as time went on (30 seconds the first few times, then 1 minute, and so on. Definitely use sunscreen religiously, though. Your skin will be super sensitive to the sun.
When I was in high school, I wanted to go to medical school, but did a complete 180 and ended up going into labor relations instead (mostly because I psyched myself out). I really fell out of love with the field and withdrew from the Master's program I was in. I'm 28 now and have been really thinking about going for it. I started taking some med school pre-reqs I didn't take in undergrad and shadowing PA's and Doctors in the ER. Hearing your stories and seeing you and other physicians so passionate about educating and helping others is a big reason that has inspired me to really consider chasing that old dream. It would be nice to hear any thoughts or advice you may have on people wanting to pursue medical school later in life or as a career change. I'm a bit concerned because my GPA in undergrad wasn't bad, but also wasn't quite to the level most medical programs would want because I didn't take school as seriously when I started. Also super excited for you in launching your line and hoping for a smooth launch!
Just do it. Pursue that dream, diggedly, unflinchingly, even on a part-time basis if need be. Being older gives you a perspective on hard work, on priorities, that the younger you did not possess. Not to mention the wisdom you now possess to work hard for your goals. Eventually, it'll take you across the finish line, all that hard work. And once you're finished, believe me, no one will care that you started later than others in your graduating class, especially if you are one of the top students. 😉
Hi there! Go for it if it’s what your whole being wants! I was 28 when I started med school. 1 year after still here! It’s a rocky road, there’s crying and self-doubt but at the end of the day I thank myself because I always make it. Hope you’re having a good day😊
@@TosaNewsense Thank you so much for the encouragement I feel like being a bit older is going to be my edge. I just have to nail that personal statement lol.
I started using the La Roche Posay Glycolic about a month ago thanks to Dr Idriss rec in a previous video. I am happy with it. I use it 3 times a week. I do it 3 times in a row or else I forget. It feels good on my (mostly normal) skin. Happy to know I am getting the kojic acid in it already! Good luck with your launch. This is THE ONLY skin care launch I’ve ever followed in my life. Cheers.
I personally wouldn’t but I don’t use trentinoin. I would let the trentinoin do what it does and let it be undisturbed by any other exfoliants. It is a strong active. I use the milder retynaldehyde. But if you wanna use any glycolic acid while also using trentinoin thats definitely a good question for a dermatologist.
When I was in college, Kojic acid was the hype and still is in the Philippines. So I tried using a Kojic acid soap but ended up having fresh wounds after I used it. After that, I didn't even bother using Kojic acid soap with it since it resulted in that horrible experience. But after watching this, I feel like I need to incorporate Kojic acid soap but I do need to find the one that has a better formulation.
The Kojic Acid Soaps work but its too harsh and drying for most people, but your best bet would be the brand names Kojie-San or the Belo brand as they formulate their bar soaps with other ingredients that would help lessen the irritation from the kojic acid - as oppose to the off brand soaps sold for cheap - the off brand ones also work but theres a higher risk of irritation, especially when the bar soaps here in the PH doesnt disclose the concentration/percentage of the kojic acid in the product. And you will have to incorporate using the kojic soap slowly until your skin can better tolerate it. Best to start using the soap once a day every other day, until you can use it once daily, and progress from there. On the other hand youre far better off using the recommendations on this video as opposed to the bar soaps as Kojic Acid works better as a leave-on product rather than as a wash-off product. You could be alot more consistent with a wash off product tho. As for wash off products, you'll also have to the soap/suds stay on your skin about 5-10 minutes before rinsing for best results, but ofcourse leaving it on the skin in serum, toner, or cream form is still a better option provided that you'll be consistent with it. And ofc pair it with a good moisturizer and sunscreen. Kojic acid's great !
I love that you tell us if a product has a noxious scent. I will be returning La Roche-Posay Glycolic B5 since I am sensitive to strong scents. It also has denatured alcohol. I should read the ingredients more thoroughly online before I purchase, but often, I don't even know what all the ingredients mean and so my brain just glosses over all the ingredients. Thanks again for all your videos!
Dr. Shereene Can you please do a video about your favorite face masks for each skin type? They're a fun way to pamper yourself when you have time. If they're useless that'd be great to know too! 🙏🏻
I use kojid acid kojid san zero pigment light soap full body wash daily with palmer cocao butter body lotion + suncream all year round. Since using this soap I look younger, no pigmentation or discolouration. I get so much compliments about how healthy my skin looks like.
They reformulated Faded and now it has fragrance :(, I think I would rather take the stink. They also removed the coconut ingredient which is potentially good for many users . Thanks for your awesome vids!
Maria camila Moreno: Persistent use of coconut oil over time on the face has been linked to an increase in contact dermatitis, that's why it is not preferred in skin care. There are many other ingredients that get less press that are better.
I really really like your videos. They are so knowledgeable and interesting. I'd love if you talk about skin that is sensitive+acne prone. Also, please review the simple skincare. Lots of respect
I’m gonna keep it real, I always love the product recommendations BUT I’m saving all money for when your line drops and I can get my hands on alllll the things!!! Hehehehe
Love your videos. A video I would absolutely love to see is recommendations and tips for every age groups. What I should be doing in my twenties, thirties, etc. Thank you!!!
Love your videos. Can you please do a video on Nasolabial folds and treating the dry fine lines in those areas in general and as the climate gets drier.
Thank you so much Dr. Aloha. Here is a permanent Solution to Eliminate Herpes 1 & 2, lupus, Acne, shingles and HPV and It's 100% money back guarantee. ru-vid.com/show-UC_YFEEZEr1BxGkNg1d4vqww 🌱❤
Great video! I love the La Roche-Posay Glycolic B5 as well but it does truly stink. Maelove also has a new serum called Fade Away that has kojic acid, alpha arbutin and licorice root. Quite soothing and I've seen good results using it for hyperpigmentation already.
@@melissalugo2461 I mostly use it in my morning routine, right after my Vitamin C serum, which also happens to be Maelove's Glowmaker and I find they work pretty well together coming from the same brand. I follow that up with Finacea and then moisturizer/sunscreen. In the night I predominantly stick to Tret and Faded by Topicals as my pigment corrector.
I am in the UK and the La Roch Posey serum is not available here, the one we have is full of dimethicone, no Kojic Acid, no glycolic acid so it was useless and the dimethicone blocks my pores and gives me breakouts. I never really get any breakouts but when I do I know it is caused by an ingredient in a product I have used, usually a foundation because they are all full of dimethicone now. I really need the kojis acid because of some hyperpigmentation from sun damage and using St Johns Wart. I bought Kojisan serum and a soap from their UK website. I will use the soap on my feet. The serum has Vit C and Niacinamide and Kojic Acid and is priced at £19.99p the soap is £2.50, they even do an SPF 50+ tinted sunscreen.
A. I love your videos. Obsessed B. Have you done a video on Korean skin care I’ve been trying a lot of things out but id love to know your favorites or thoughts. Thanks doc!
Girl you're a blessing 😭 after watching your lactic acid video I started using it my face has been literally glowing after rough texture went away.... Now being an Indian I'm zebra 🦓😭 sunscreens don't work in India sorry to say.... the severe tanning on my face, hands and feets, omg. I'm white from inside and black from outside 😭😭 not being racist but being zebra hurts 🥲 Hope kojic acid will help me again 🤝🌸❤️
Hello! I share your love of fall - bring it on! I hope your skincare line is accessible in Canada. :) What light coloured eyeshadow do you use on your eyelids please?
Wonderful information as always! I went to a new derm here in Paris and she was really impressed with my skincare routine. I owe that to you Shereene. I enjoy your videos so much and I learn a lot. My skin looks much better since I follow your advice. Now, the question is: can you elaborate on treatments with kojic acid in your practice. I am supposed to get a treatment with my derm that will applie kojic acid deeper into my skin to treat the dark spots from sun and I wanted to know a bit more about that?
Dr. Idriss, have you tried Peter Thomas Roth Niacinamide Discoloration treatment? It has all of the ingredients you like a lot, which is why I got it, it’s expensive but it works really well for me! I use it at night a few times a week and it works as good as my Revision C-correcting complex that I use during the day. So man when I use them both in the same day my skin is on cloud 9 and I can’t stop staring at it!
I’m going to try that PTR. I’ve thought about it but when you said the part about not being able to stop looking at your skin, I totally cracked up! 😂💕 I’ve been using Topicals Faded for 8 months and I have your same reaction. 😳 It’s excellent making my skin really clear. I also get great results from Touch Bright and Clear. Both work terrifically! Be prepared for a mild sulfur smell from Faded (it dissipates after a few minutes but now I actually like it)…and be aware the Touch is a kinda gross green color but it disappears on the skin. 😄☮️🌸💜
Can you please do a dive into folliculitis at some point? My stubborn military husband won't listen to his dermatologist and I need some wisdom for his benefit!
💜💜💜💜 I'd love to try kojic acid! I would also really appreciate a deep dive in all YOUR personal care when it comes to eye contour.... Your eyes are just FLAWLESS!!! How does she do it!!!??? We all wanna know!!
Would love love to incorporate this is imy skin care. But also I just started retinol and plan on using it regularly. How can I use Kojic acid and retinol together?
Hi Dr Idriss, thank you for educating us on skincare , you are awesome!! Can you please talk about the skin condition Idiopathic guttate hypomelanosis and what treatment or product works best . Thank you !!
My retinoid is compounded for me with kojic acid and niacinamide and COQ10. It’s working really well and I don’t think I’m going to go ahead with the cosmelan peel anymore.
Dr Idriss, I love your body product videos! Could you do a video on best antioxidant serums/essences for body? Or which antioxidants are the most beneficial for bodycare? I use retinoids and acids, but I don't know if that's enough... I am extremely pale and I want to make sure I protect my skin well. Thankfully I can afford to get this extra step of skincare for myself. Of course, with being mindful and not spending unnecessarily.
When I think of pigmentation, I think of like blotchy skin, excess redness, or what have you. But, do dark under eye circles count as pigmentation? I guess what I'm asking is if I need a targeted regimen for pigmentation to treat dark under eye circles or if that's a completely different problem.
Maelove’s fade away brightening serum has kojic acid together with alpha arbutin and licorice root extract. Haven’t tried yet. Just heard it from dr. Maxfield of doctorly ;)
Hello, quick question. My 15 yr old daughter has started using a Vit C which contains kojic acid. She uses this every morning and then puts on sunscreen. Is that ok? From your video you mentioned that it should be used sparingly? Could you please advice. Thank you!
LPR has so many different formulations in each country... Sometimes you find similar products but with different formulations and it's so frustrating. I got an SA high tolerance cleanser that I love but it only exists in brazil as "high tolerance", everywhere else, it's a stronger exfoliate. Ditto this glycolicb5, you can find a "glycolicHA" but it doesnt seem to be the same? Maybe a video focused on LRP equivalencies in different locations?
Can you do a video about contraceptive pills and skin? Pros cons.. things to consider.. hormonal fluctuations.. not just acne.. even though it is the first thing to be noticed and i am scared of.
You Rock! Keep banging! keep on being real!! and go ahead and develop a skin care line but Please do not have your husband and kids (or mother and her dog) disappear without talking about it. Your info is so helpful!
How to incorporate your kolic acid serum into my routine. I triedvusing it daily just nights..but my skin is sensitive. So i did patch test and was good. But my main question is should i use it every other day or 1 or 2wice a week etc...please help i really wanna help this work
Love your channel! Sooo excited for your new endeavor! Could u address tinea versicolor and which products would help? My teen son is so self conscious about it. Thank u for all u do to help us!
You mentioned using one of these products at night and glycolic is a good combination. I use Loreal Glycolic twice a week. can I use the Peace Out serum when I use glycolic at night?
Can you do a video on ingrown hairs for guys who are prone to them and bumps for African American guys and how to prevent it. That's where all my hyperpigmentation comes from it sucks.
Alright 2 questions: 1. Do i use SkinCeuticals Discoloration Defense after the soap, just that one extra product? No creams ? Or sun screen ? 2. If i used the soap and this serum until i get the result i wanted, can just stop and still have the result forever?
Thank you much for your detailed and yet succinct information on the topic of discussion. Your videos empower me with knowledge to make as much informed decision. So Thank you🙏. Question I have been trying to get answer to is why is there any mention of toner anymore in any of the recent (2 years) videos!! I just started researching on serums and creams. I have like forever been using a toner in my regimen (if I could call it so)..now that I am trying to start adding serums I am not sure if I should continue with toner! please advice. 🙏
Hello! I watch Dr. Idriss , and also "Doctorly" and Dr Dray. "Doctorly" Dr. Dray do vidios about toner being not needed, and to save our money. Good luck to you!
I've been using Faded (only during the day because it can't be used with tret/retinol), and I really don't like it. It doesn't seem to be doing anything (I'm about 6 weeks in) for any of my hyperpigmentation. Plus, it really makes my eyes water and burn if it gets anywhere near them. (Hard to avoid when I apply my sunscreen over the Faded cream.)
Is kojic acid banned in the EU? The la Roche Posay serum is one more example of a product made by a French brand (others by Avène come to mind) that can't be found in Europe. Since we can get glycolic acid and vitamin B5 alright, I assume it's the kojic acid that's not available. Same goes for arbutin, if I remember correctly from other products I've tried to find.
