Great presentation (as always)! My best friend and I used to make our own throwing stars and nunchucks in high school in the 70's. Loads of fun emulating Bruce Lee & Billy Jack!

The shurikens are indeed a good distracting weapon that could aid in the setup of a better attack also they can serve you by helping you to keep your distance from an opponent before you can escape 😎👍

Like you, I started using throwing stars as a kid. Actually made some crude ones by soldering 4 big nails together. The best stars I've used are Cold Steel Shure Strikes, which are 4 inches and available in 3 different weights. I prefer the lightest ( and least expensive), which are plenty heavy and almost always stick. For extreme throwing, I got Cold Steel Battle Stars, which are 10 inches across, with each point being 4 inches. Unbelievable power.

Old school ninjutsu coated the tips with poison or rust. The heavy cold steel shuriken look good. As far as poison boiled down tabbaco turned into a tar causes respiratory failure in seconds. It causes death. Beyond this I would not want to carry them coated in poison. I wrapped my push dagger handle in Paracord. Thanks for that other video.

I remember the show, Kung Fu Theater, and watching them throw stars and jumping up like 20 ft. in the air and landing on a tree branch then jumping from the branch and smashing large nut shells with their knees when they came down; as corny as that show was I enjoyed watching it. 😂👍

Thanks for the video. As shuriken go, that one looks great. The heavy weight and four points should help it stick more often. I'm curious what the steel is and how well the steel is hardened and tempered. For long term use, that factor is going to be important. I can see having a great deal of fun throwing something like that. As a weapon, I'm a bit skeptical. I understand the value of something like that when ambushing a group of enemies. As you said, this weapon is unlikely to give an immediate killing, but it should be cheap and easy. An enemy combatant who is hit with one will be distracted by the wound. Those around him will be distracted by his wound as well. For a relatively small investment of steel and effort, an ambushing force would create distraction that might make the force being ambushed less effective. If I'm ambushing a single enemy, I'd want something more likely to give an immediate kill or at least immediate disabling. A .22LR caliber rifle is going to produce a wound of equal or greater damage. The cartridges will be less expensive and weigh less. I can make a hit from a longer distance with less motion to give away my position. An arrow fired from a bow would have the same advantages. Even a spear thrown from an atlatl would be more likely to produce immediate incapacitation of a single enemy. In that situation, I'd rather have one of those weapons. As a hunting weapon, I could see one of these being effective against rabbits and probably squirrels. In some cases, this would be effective against small birds. The primary value of a shuriken might be in the mental and physical benefits of throwing. Walking back and forth to a target is healthier than sitting on a sofa. The aiming and throwing aspect as good for the mind. If one can develop a good throwing motion with the non-dominant hand, that practice will be very good for the mind. If I had a kid who had any interest in this kind of stuff, I'd want to get him or her a few of these just to get my kid away from screens. To the extent that I were physically capable, I'd be there with the kid to applaud the effort and watch him or her grow in skill.

First of all I have a small set of very nice shuriken and one of them is just like the one that you have except it's smaller. With a smaller shuriken and with some rounded or unsharpened edges, you could hold it in your hand and use it like a knife. It would be up to the user to buy, make or even modify them so that they could hold them in their hand or they might want to go in the other direction and make the weapon razor sharp for the best chance of sticking into the target. I like them because I think they are easier to throw and hit with. You don't have to calculate distance in speed of rotation, so they are perfect, throwing weapons, and although bo shuriken are simple, easy to carry, and easy to make, you have to throw them properly. In regards to people who keep saying that you're throwing away your weapon well I find that stupid because if you're going to practice knife throwing and probably would carry more than one throwing knife, Spike or shuriken. And you're not throwing the weapon away but you're utilizing it as a range weapon so for example if somebody decides to pull a pistol from a holster or is trying to go for a rifle or maybe they even have a sword, you can throw your weapon at them and then move in on them.

Kinda hard to carry BUT, if they are handy somehow, I like them because we can all throw a baseball relatively hard.l and it’s a similar throw. It has a high probability of sticking. Knife throwing takes practice and timing , this well, just ain’t that hard to make it work. Now, even though it can land in both points and maybe not stick, in soft tissue it’s going to drive in. My thought too is, while say working in a garage late at night or if you had a few of these in a car and something happens you have to walk for help late at night, well if approached by multiple people it may just persuade them to leave you alone , and scatter them so you can escape.

I would like to see some penetration tests on the Shuriken before I would ever bother throwing one. Especially with today's military body armor. But I would be worried about that even penetrating some thick wool clothing. Against a solid wood target, Or an opponents chest. Perhaps. But a soft area. Like stomach. Or ballistics jell. I just can not imagine a very good preformance.
