Aaron C for a few second I thought your profile pic was Murdoc. Where did you get that Matty pic though? (It's probably an easy find but I'm way too lazy)
as long as we are on the topic who are your favorite vegan straight edge hip hop artists/acts? I really fw the Carrot Crew Killaz, SmoothieGang 666, and Potato Head Mafia just to name a few.
it's kinda like jerma's comment section so i'm not that fazed anymore, on the other hand when i read jerma's comment section the first time i was just as confused as you
No shit, fantano has one of the best "meme" comment section on youtube- people complain that the jokes are repetitive but that's the charm of it in my opinion... And always remember: IT'S MELON'S OPINIONS- once you have this mindset on critics it's less likely to be offended by their scores (though I don't really think that the mbtdf and damn fans are gonna stop complaining at fantano anytime soon)
Extol are great, and there are a couple decent Christian brutal death metal, like Broken Flesh and Abated Mass Of Flesh. Also first 2 Underoath albums and most of Norma Jean's catalogue. Other than that, not much overtly Christian rock/pop music that's any good.
Have you heard any of Red’s songs from the “:Of Beauty and Rage” album? It’s a solid as hell album. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-ES94rIDib-o.html
I love how Anthony is “athiest” (I put it in quotes because that’s just what the wiki says) and still respects other religion such as Christianity and Islam and never puts them down. Huge respect melon. Just need to work on your racism problem
0:34 Kamikaze hurted melon's feelings :,( 1:33 Chance The Rapper is a better public figure than a rapper 1:43 You avoid Christian music yet there's quality albums from people like Trip Lee and Lecrae 4:31 Alice In Chains' Unplugged is the best Unplugged 4:43 Musicial theater like Hamilton is classist 6:24 Hole is the most overlooked grunge band ever 7:31 Animal Collective is just Rugrats backing music with vocals 7:41 Most albums nowadays don't have a listening order and taking points for flow between songs isn't cool 8:30 "Instant classics" are a myth 9:13 Tigers Jaw's version of Gyspy is better than Fleetwood Mac's 9:28 Marijuana makes music more enjoyable 9:45 Nu-Metal actually did a ton of great things 10:45 Bling rap was viewed as a meme but it was actually a good era 11:57 Mineral is the greatest emo band of all time 12:07 The 1960's British Invasion was one of the Top 5 most important events in the history of USA 13:18 Arguing over music is bad 14:48 STOP IGNORING SLEEPY MUSIC
TCT That’s what music composition is, playing similar or the same scales to come up with different phrases. That’s like saying your cooking’s not good cause you used flour. Scales are the foundation for making music and without them there would be very little music.
kind of weird how he decided to pull up a sleepy music album in response and then fell asleep for 37 minutes but still left it in?? but his editing style has always been weird so idk
bling era eventually transitioning to emo rap makes sense because it's like the outward party energy of punk that eventually lead to post punk into goth, bc after the party's over and the drugs wear off you're alone with your feelings. same concept with louis armstrong's lively jazz into bebop into cool jazz which is emo af
That's a really interesting way to put it! And, not having a ton (or almost any) knowledge of jazz because am pleb, that's a great analogy, and a neat little tidbit of musical history, thank you! If you haven't studied music, maybe you ought to consider doing so, I think it may suit you well.
I respect your opinion on the whole Eminem ordeal but to be fair let's not forget that you are in fact a plant species in the family Cucurbitaceae, a vine-like (scrambler and trailer) flowering plant originally from Africa. It is cultivated for its fruit. We call this a "Melon"
Anthony, standing outside my window and doing card tricks was funny to begin with, but now I live on the 18th floor and you’re still managing to do it, it’s scary, I don’t understand it, stop it.
Yes, some Asian cultures do commonly exhibit what you call "squinty eyes," but I don't see what this has to do with sleepy music, or anything for that matter...
There’s no reason to review Christian music because even though it can have merit or it can lack merit, the main point of the music is to bring a spiritual experience to the listeners. It’s the only form of music where they weren’t writing it with the main goal of it sounding good.
As a Christian though it should sound good. One of the unspoken fundamental beliefs of Christianity (actually monotheism in general) is that objective beauty does exist, regardless of subjective preference, the reason for this: God is by definition a perfect being meaning he is beauty itself meaning there is an objective standard of beauty. Why is this relevant? Because, it means that the music Christians listen to ought to be somewhat transcendent you can hear this in a lot of older Christian music, such as Gregorian or even some Hymns. But you know it's a little different given today's culture, but Christian music should be in pursuit of an awe-inspiring quality.
Exactly this. The purpose of "worship music" is to foster worship. It's purposefully simple so that a congregation can come together and participate in worshipping through song. The actual musical merits of the song are entirely secondary.
Music critics over reacting to eminem fans over reacting to music critics over reacting to eminem over reacting to music critics. oof it is the year 2018.
Please make a segment called "LET'S SLEEP" where you exclusively review music that might make you sleepy while you fall asleep in yellow or red flannel pajamas and sleeping cap
Having been in High School during nu metal's heyday, I always found it funny that people specifically call out Mudvayne as being an example of a bad nu metal band. I never thought they were great, but there were so many far worse bands than them, IMO.
You seem to be implying the flannel is simply a piece of fabric. The flannel is sentient. Melon wanted to wear other clothing for the reviews of the soon-to-be-deceased....but the flannel enclosed itself around melons thicc frame against his will. The flannel cannot simply be 'retired' you fool. The flannel is eternal, the flannel is the reaper. And if you release shit music, you better fucking believe the flannel is coming for YOU.
I don't get the confusion over Eminem's Kamikaze. His entire career has involved him being dissed by critics and hated by others and Eminem clapping back. Kamikaze is pretty focused on a couple people but it's essentially him saying "fuck you, fight me" to everyone who has been talking shit. It's not a regular album like what MTBMB was. I'm not sure why people were surprised by any means, especially after the previous album struggled in America. The Chloraseptic remix was the foreshadowing to the album, it's not going to be a consistent theme moving forward in future albums and he even made jokes about that in the skits.
GearsOfDutyHalo4Dead NF has some good material (songs such as How Could You Leave Us, Lost in the Moment, that archetype), but he's weighed down by his more popular songs where, excluding Let You Down, he just brags about how "real" he is instead of having wordplay fitting of a brag rap. Plus the beats on his brag raps just don't stand out
Mudvayne is way more than a blending of Korn and Slipknot. Mudvayne are 10x more technical and instrumentally talented than 90% of nu metal bands, not to mention more experimental.
The political climate of more recent years is having a very adverse impact on music and it’s production. If Camp from Childish Gambino were produced and dropped in 2016, some of his comments regarding Asians for example would’ve been taken so to heart that he might not have had a future in music at all.
For me, how an album strings it’s songs together is such a vital part of the experience and not having it makes it feel like you’re just listening to a playlist and not a structured album.
Long time huge fan- first time posting. I loved the “arguing over music is actually bad” segment here sm. You summed it all up so eloquently - really enjoyed your comments. Also made me ....almost (lol) forgive you for dissing Alien Crime Lord by the Voidz haha. Keep on doing what you do! :)
Listen, I know Eminem called out critics in Kamikaze, but that doesn't mean you have to call him the n-word and speculate that he was a secret grandson of Hitler, orchestrating the entire US Nazi movement. Maybe next time just calm down and wait to respond before making such a knee-jerk reaction. Statements like these have a much bigger consequence than you think.
This is one of his most side-splitting Let's Argues I've watched. "They didn't even bother to EQ it, how can you deduct points??!" had me absolutely rolling.
This just made me realize that the music industry separates christian music in to stuff meant for white audiences and stuff for black audiences via Gospel vs Christian categories.
That girl talking about the albums has a point, Anthony. Although I would LOVE all new music to come out as full album projects and prefer my music to come in full albums, you can’t deny a lot of new pop / hip hop music nowadays is basically a long list of single songs. They don’t really bother to make a full project anymore. So there ARE certain records you just can’t rate on a project level because they’re not, they’re a collection of singles to them.
This is way late but aren't there a lot of albums which are also very non-cohesive? Is the only difference between a non-cohesive album and a project which "isn't really an album" just... releasing a lot of singles?
Every artist essentially gets “called out” by critics. A critic’s job is to “critique” an album. Believing critics get “butt hurt” about artists not liking their review ESPECIALLY when the critic gives a bad review is. Well, extremely stupid.
Well if it can go one way (artists getting butt hurt over reviews), surely it can go the other way (critics getting butt hurt over artist's response). At this point each side is just trying to legitmize themselves over the other.
billhicks8 Ok but a critic expects backlash. That’s kind of what happens when you “critique” something. Sure, when you give an album a really positive review you probably would expect praise (though I never would personally) but when you give a negative review, you should expect some pushback from the fan base or artist. It comes with the territory of reviewing albums. When you’re an artist, they expect some criticism but they more expect people to like it unless they’re doing something super out there, which in the Internet age finds a cult following. Conclusion: Critics critique music. When you “critique” anyone or anything you should expect pushback. And if you don’t expect some level of pushback then you’re not a good critic.
when Tom Petty released Wildflowers it was an instant classic or at the very least some of the songs were, they fit in on both modern and classic rock station and continue to be played on both to this day .
