@@missgradenkoMC what do you mean cancel culture is the most retarded thing ever, and the original comment wasn't asking why he wasn't cancelled. What is your comment even addressing?
If you guys actually listen to his music you can hear that "Wolf" is just another persona like "Igor" and the "Flower Boy". Back then, though, it wasn't the same, you could have 'Personas' in your music.
if u were watching him from bastard u'd know he really was just an edgy little kid he wasn't like actually believing the shit he said, that's just what edgy kids do lol "what can I do to make other uncomfortable/outraged"
C) He's black and came out as gay/bisexual so there's no argument for calling him alt-right, sexist, misogynist etc etc. Let's not forget this is the guy who literally rapped "Rape a pregnant bitch tell my friends I had a threesome" he has said things that *easily* could have ended a career many times over
I think part of 'cancel culture' is the fact that these people who are cancelled are due to a mistake or one instance which doesn't match their brand and therefore is shocking to their audience, whereas Tyler never appealed to these people in the first place. It's like asking 'should we cancel Cannibal Corpse?'.
Even though his lyrics were controversial, I think he established that it was all fictional, and he acted completely different from his former rap persona. Plus he changed his image, hasn’t really said anything “problematic” on a track since 2013, and honestly a lot of people in “cancel” culture grew up on his shit anyways, he had anti-establishment music which easily appeals to them.
People were jerking him off when flower boy dropped for not being controversial, but did they even listen to some of the lyrics? A lot of people started liking him and stopped «cancelling» him just because he was LGBT. If he dropped the line «that cherry be the bomb like he ran in boston» he would’ve gotten a lot of hate for it in the past. Yet i’ve never heard anyone mention it as being controversial, and i think that’s linked with him coming out. People dont care about his art, they care about if he fits in they inclusive world view where you’re automatically accepted if you’re not a straight man
@@cumsnorter9761 I was with you until those last 2 sentences lmao. There was 2 years between that line and Flower Boy, and he wasn't getting that much hate for it then either.
@@ervakerti6823 I was referring to his RU-vid videos back when he was called FilthyFrank. As funny as they are they are definitely things that his detractors will always hold over his head.
Producers have been doing at least half the creative work in music for decades with almost always going uncredited and nobody bats an eye. But a vocalist doesn't get a feature credit for singing four lines and everyone loses their minds.

On Tyler's previous homophobic lyrics: No one wants to talk about this for some reason but some open lgbt people were once homophobes who grew up in homophobic communities and doubled down to cover themselves. As a bi person part of the lgbt community, I can see that Tyler might have just been one of those people that felt that they needed to double down to stay in the closet and I can forgive him for that shit cause I think we need to forgive lgbt people for the homophobia that they put on themselves, in order to help them heal and finally be who they are. I do understand other lgbt people who may still want to cancel Tyler for that, and that's fine. This is just my take as someone from the community.
Sinnamon Roll being lgbt makes you very aware of how real internalized homophobia is, and anyone who is lgbt and still thinks he should be cancelled for that is extremely privileged and probably very young or living in an amazingly progressive area.
Did he ever actually say one single thing about gay people , or anything bad ? Using the F word as a derogatory term for dudes in general might be problematic to some, but it's not homophobic
I think tyler couldn't really be canceled because people were already split on him to begin with and those who did like him didn't care about the whole cancel culture thing
Cardi B presents a conflict of interest for the cancel culture: On one hand, she's done reprehensible shit that any man would have been crucified for, but on the other hand she's a woman and therefore beyond reproach. They've already aligned with her and don't want egg on their faces, so instead they're doing nothing about it, which is all they've done done anyway. It really exposes the hypocrisy and flimsy moralizing behind the woke generation.
Tyler, the Creator is honestly kind of a Filthy Frank figure. Shock value, edgy humor. So ridiculous you could tell it wasn't genuine (unless you're a soccer mom (for Tyler) or kpop stan (for Joji))
I'm hoping to fill that vein with my new album "High Noon: the Ballad of Logan Michaels," here's the link if you wanna check it out loganmichaels.bandcamp.com/
We need a digital equivalent to the cd case liner that lists all the people who worked on a song, including producers, sound engineer, people who played the instruments etc.
I think we forget that Tyler still has an insane fan base (a decent amount of OF psychos still sticking around) that would never let a 'Tyler is cancelled party' get notable respect. Plus there's so much more evidence showing all that vulgarity was just a character for his artistry and that he's actually a rlly positive ball of sunshine irl
Yeah I don't know that he's been accused of any serious misconduct outside of his music, which i think is an important distinction. Art is allowed to be offensive.
Kanye West will always be an icon. He's won more Grammys than virtually everyone in hip hop. He's influenced numerous HUGE artists. Kanye West's musical accomplishments stand on their own outside of how you feel about him as a personality.
@@deathmetalpotato Music is more than instruments. Kanye is a music PRODUCER and ARTIST. I've actually taken classes in music and know there is more to music than just instruments. Go read a book and then step up to the big boy table before trying to interact with your betters, little fella.
It’s funny how we think something is cringe when culture shifts in such a way to almost peer pressure us into agreeing. Being transgressive and offensive used to be praised for crossing socially constructed lines and taring down polite societies sense of normality, now an artist using a naughty no no word gets them chastised by the new wave of puritans and the responses from the culturally accustomed listeners become “that’s cringe”, “big oof”, “yikes”.
It’s crazy how ironic this cancel culture is/was. You have people trying to cancel someone over edgy lyrics in Tyler’s case, while you have people like X being starkly defended by tons of people until the day he died, even though his actual abusive and sociopathic behavior was clear as day.
I'm looking very forward to Injury Reserve's review! I personally liked it a lot. Looking forward to your outlook on things. :) Cheers! Great installment!
He does have a point, some of the albums pre dark side of the moon are kinda ugly. And the artwork in question became one the most iconic pieces of art of our current time. It doesn't help the music is just as iconic as the artwork and that after dark side, pink floyd started to get attention and critical acclaim more than ever which was reflected on the later albums. Still, I don't think the album got big just because of the cover, in fact I'd say all the albums after it (except for the final cut) have better artwork so I don't think it has anything to do with them getting big
Anthony, With a fretless bass the intonation of your fingers has to be directly on the fret line, as there is no metal frets to give you that precise intonation i.e precision bass
Cesar Ramirez Oh hush, he was banned from several places for his music and all that shit, stop throwing your "black people get treated better" shit in there

Crediting features is a process that is blocked by online retailers if not done entirely correctly by format for iTunes etc, and then the royalties have a complex breakdown, so. Not having an artist featured is sometimes a choice made by the powers at be
My fav hip hop artists have been displaying their features in the back tracklist. Even when said artist is an unknown. Thats dope af. I agree w you tho as far as big features. It definitely raises the expectations on that track. And we too often find these days artists putting out some wack ass “featuring(s)”
Not crediting people in done has been around forever, Eric Clapton is the guitarist in the Beatles' "While my guitar gently weeps" but received no credit on the album
Yo yo! Can’t want till you get to review FLYING LOTUS Flamagra!!!!!!!!!! , ever thinking reviveing RAS G, Or Daedalus...albums....?? Keep up the great work, bra!!!!
My first instinct when the Pearl Jam/Dave Matthews Band comparison came up was not to think about musical similarities (of which there aren't that many, aside from both coming to prominence in the 90s and having mush-mouthed lead singers), but rather to think about how they approach touring and building setlists. Both bands have had a tendency to play completely different sets from one night to the next, which means each show is unique and there's a really good chance of hearing deep cuts from years ago, while the band's biggest or most current hits might not get played at all. This caters to hardcore fans moreso than casual fans, and inspires a passionate taping culture for both bands. They obviously aren't the only examples by a long shot, but they were probably two of the most well-known bands approaching their live shows in this way in the 90s.

4:04 I think not listing the featured artists on songs keeps the album exciting and it’s one of the reasons why Astroworld is my favorite Trap album. I remember how cool it was when Astroworld dropped, finding Drake, Juice WRLD, Frank, The Weeknd, and even more made it so exciting on the first listen.
And before Rodeo fans call me basic, I’ve been listening to Travis since 2017 and I truly believe Astroworld is better than Rodeo. Rodeo’s great but there’s a few duds (Piss On Your Grave, Impossible, I Can Tell) that make the flow of the album pretty choppy.
@fantano I love every video you do no matter the content, much respect it's always done well, you do your research you try to be as nonbiased as one can be and you are incredibly articulate in your delivery thanks for all ya do bud! Traaaaaannnssssitttiooon!
Hey Anthony, probably won’t see this but if you do I would really appreciate a top 10 video of the weirdest things you’ve seen/put on a pizza. I feel like this premise would make for a very interesting and entertaining video that your fanbase would enjoy, could just be me though; similarly to the pizza toppings that would be covered in the video, pizza related content tends to be an acquired taste :)
So the feature argument gave me this thought. Back in the long long ago in the time of CD's the insert could come with a lyric sheet with all the writer's and performers credits. No people download music without the sleeve to investigate to try to learn a little more about the band. What a whimsical time my teenage years were. Now-a-days the Feature on a song, in the minds of the artists, is just a simple nod to a bro helping them out. I mean it is literally just a few more characters of text when it comes right down to it. To them it is just as easy as saying thank you.
